  1. Agree 100%. Same thing happened to me and 3 guys i fish with. We all went back to braid. (These were walleye setups)
  2. I wouldn't advise going higher.. for obvious reasons.. But a lot of guys down south use size 40 reels for crappie with 4# line. The theory is the bigger spool will have less twists of the line and allow for easier casting of small jigs.
  3. Discharging a firearm in city limits is probably just a fine. However shooting a cormorant is going to put you in federal prison for killing a federally protected species.
  4. What makes you think that you can't go lower than what is printed on your reel?
  5. This! I have the short shaft and WISH I had bought the mid-length (52). Its just fine for normal conditions, actually perfect. but in rough water or when a cruiser comes by me I can't control the boat with the prop flying in and out of the water.
  6. Advise her that if she writes 8500 on all three it goes on county/state record as selling each item for 8500, thus the state will think she took in $25,500 income and she could get audited! Yes you would have to pay whatever sales tax is for $25,500 to transfer the title if she does it that way.
  7. Every powder coat is different. Even colors within the same "brand" are different. With that being said, you are usually safe at 350 for 20 minutes if your powder has no instructions. Paint a junk jig or lead weight and cure it. When its done toss it on the concrete, if it chips you need longer cure. If it dents you got it!
  8. I'm just trying to end the beating around the bush and make sure he FULLY understands about the quality of boats he is looking at before he commits and ends up spending a lot more money to fix a bad purchase. It happens on every forum every season and it is hard to watch. It upsets me to look at craigslist and see the pure junk some people are trying to pawn off as just needing small repairs and what not. And when you do find a good deal on there its always shady as heck... Divorced wife selling husbands boat (does she own it??), someone selling a boat with a COPY of the title (collateral on another loan, bank going to take it?), someone who needs cash to pay bills and has a garage full of "toys" he could sell before his boat that "he absolutely loves and hates to see go", someone who bought it from an old guy who had it in storage and has not used it in 15 years , etc. All popular craigslist "scams"
  9. I don't think that info was in the other thread?? At $100/hr shop time think about how many hours he put in that boat to fix it up, plus the cost of materials. I can understand why he got upset now.

  11. Everyone who has bought one of those "starter boats" you are referring to will give you the same advice as A-Jay. Wait and find something good. You will find out REAL soon that the initial investment in a boat is the cheapest it will ever be. Buying someone's "junk?" is going to cost you big time in the long run (possibly short run also!). For instance your second boat here. Going to need 2-3 batteries right off the bat, that's $250-400. Floor replaced in 3 months? A lot of time and probably $100 in wood. If the floor is rotted out then there is a lot of other problems about to appear, it means it was stored outdoors or at least a very damp area. The boats you have shown so far are other people's problem boats that they are dumping off on craigslist because the problems are costing more than the boat is worth. That was probably the case with the dealership that was rude as well, he probably took it in on trade and didnt realize it was a problem boat until he had it. Now he has to dump it off at $2400 to break even and was upset... just like you will be in 6 months if you buy one of these money pits. From what I have personally seen, if the price is below 6-8 grand you don't want to mess with it unless you NEED a boat now and plan to sell it off for a loss soon. There's exceptions of course, jon boats and resort boats which are pretty basic to begin with. But a $1500-3000 V or bass boat is like buying a $200 car. A-Jay is spot on with what he said.
  12. Its a lot better right now than in the summer/fall. The grass and bushes haven't started growing yet, you can walk around most of the little lake with ease. The wind really effects that lake so keep that in mind. I had the boat in there about a month ago and had 42 degrees on the south end of the little lake and 55 degrees on the north end (south wind). With the south wind today I bet the north end was 60 degrees or more, should have been a good bite going on.
  13. I HATE selling rods. Only ever had one damaged, and thankfully @stkbassn was cool about it and we worked it out. The entire time from when it leaves my hands to when I hear from the buyer I am stressed to the roof... I know how the shipping companies handle items.
  14. The first one looks like a pig with lipstick on it. The second one is the best boat but from your description sounds like it will need some tinkering. This would be a much safer family boat. Its 20 years old, soft floor is not surprising. Side note- what does BRO stand for in that last listing? He wants to be paid in British Royal Opals or what?
  15. You should be. Its a hidden gem. I watched and weighed several 5# bass come out of there last summer in june/july. Those were 6's all day long in the spring. Probably 7's this may. I caught a 22" (didn't weigh it) ice fishing in 2014. You just have to get past the thousands of 12" fish to get to a good one.
  16. I use zman original and project z. The project Z is easier to fish in grass for sure. Easier to keep the skirt and trailer on and the head comes through grass better. I also use strike king pure poison. I use the orig chatter and pure poison around rock and wood. Keep a bottle of loctite gel super glue in your box. It will help keep your skirts and trailers from moving around, makes life a little easier.
  17. I got bit by a mosquito a couple hours ago.. In april! The ticks are terrible out at lost grove, I quit bank fishing there because of them. Heck I even manage to get them when in the boat!
  18. If leaks are the worry, I can put your mind to ease. I have a leak on both of the screws for an old speed sensor that was put on years ago by the previous owner. It leaks, I know it leaks, I can watch it leak. After 7 days of being on the lake I have roughly 2 gallons of water in the boat. Don't worry about that, its not going to sink your boat. Some year I will fix it.
  19. You darn near had a jet motor with it mounted so high! Looks like your mounting plate has another setting (lower).. that would have helped some. That is a very cool set up, would make for a NICE one man river runner.
  20. I just spit out my drink. I imagine it did!
  21. Yeah that motor is way too high. Looks like 3/4 of the prop is above the bottom of your transom! Probably had one heck of a quick bow rise on hole shot huh?
  22. Lower the pitch the more torque, higher the pitch the more speed. Mercury has a prop selector tool that will give you the info you need!
  23. Is it a 4 blade? 4 blades are generally mounted higher on the transom than 3 blade. You need to test the boat before anyone can help. You need to take it to the water the way it is and give her some juice. See what the RPM top out at when trimmed. Trim up until it porpoises and then trim down until it runs smooth. Take note of your speed (use gps speed) and your RPM. Keep an eye on the water pressure gauge as well.
  24. hope he isnt asking too much for it. Adding a $600 trolling motor isn't going to make up for needing a $1500 motor. His money would have been better spent finding a cheap used "correct" motor to stick on it if he planned to sell it. 9.9 boats are not as popular as they used to be. Must be a V series if its 17'. With his $600 motor the boat is worth 2G or so, possibly 2500 if its in great condition and someone really wants it. You should be able to get $300 for the 9.9 if it runs.
