These guys nailed it. You'll have to change your grip. I hold it the same way you do and have no problems, but its different for each person.
You may try to think about how you are holding the rod when you set the hook. Are you loosely holding it to where the rod moves when you set the hook?
Catfish are predators. While bass fishing I have caught them on
spinnerbaits
chatterbaits
buzzbaits
t-rig worm/craw
tubes
flukes
flippin jig and swimming jigs
crankbaits of all sorts
topwater popper
topwater frog
large mepps #5
custom small musky spinner targeting pike
weedless spoons
I think that's it, but I've probably missed a few.
27" on a board with the nose pushed into it (mouth closed)? Or 27" with a tape laying along its body with the mouth open and the tail pinched? There is a big difference.
I've seen guys catch 14" crappie that measure 12" on my board, same with bass and anything else that has a big set of jaws.
Buying on ebay is fine as long as you have good reading comprehension skills. If the item does not match the sellers description then ebay will refund your money. So unless you can't read, you should know exactly what you are getting. If not, then you get it free.
You need a real whippy rod for pulling cranks. Otherwise they will shake off long before you get to the rod. Also if you are running multiple rods then you will need different lengths. 6- 6'6" rods for the back and 7'6"- 8' for up front.
Crappiebasser, just hang a couple fish baskets off the side and lay an old zebco 33 on the dock. Any time I see a dock with any sign that the owner is a fisherman I will not fish it out of respect. If it has a ski boat and a jetski then its fair game.
I can't think of a reason you would need more than 3. You can buy the kit of 3 with a mountable rack for $20 at bass pro. Make sure you paint them black!
Hatrix, it retails for $7.99. (8.99 some places). 1/4 pound spool of trilene big game (not a good line IMO!). Walmart, dicks, gander mountain, bass pro, cabelas, tackle warehouse, etc. It will be on the bottom of the shelf stacked or in a bin. They are shrink wrapped 1/4# spools.
That would be big game. A very cheap line. I personally would not use it. (retails for $7.99). Just about any line on the market would be a better choice IMO
You may consider a sealed lead acid battery for it. A 7ah 12V SLA and charger should be around $20-30 at a battery store. It will weigh less than 3 pounds and will run that unit all day no problem.
Its so nobody fishes around their dock. I've seen it quite a few times. They don't want people throwing around their dock/boat so they install the bars.
I don't mean to stereotype but it usually happens around the really large houses with fancy pleasure boats on the docks. These are typically the same people that are known to yell at fishermen that are around their property.
You got what you asked for. You asked a question that has been asked many times here. They all end the same way. A few refuse to use heavy braid because they have never needed it and end up looking down on those who do use it. So we tend to be defensive when people "call us out" so to speak. The way your post was worded it was taken as you were looking down at those of us who use thick braid.
A saying I heard once.. "if you have never dug a hole bigger than 5 feet, you will never see the need for a backhoe". In other words, if you have never fished in the thick slop where heavy braid is needed, you will never see the need for it. Once you expand your fishing to different situations you will realize the need for the thick line. Hopefully then you will come back and apologize to those who you have looked down on.
I may be wrong, but I read your first post as "why do people use 50# braid" like we are a bunch of idiots who think there are 50# bass and we need some super thick line just to land a fish. Sounded like a jerk so I replied like a jerk.
Your 12# mono will not last long fishing in thick slop where 65# braid is used. Anyone who argues that 50-65 is not needed is a fool. How many pro fishermen do you see frog fishing with 20# braid or 12# mono? none.
