  1. I dont really care for my 7'mhf mojo. Too heavy (weight) and is very tip heavy. I use it for heavier spinnerbaits but dont throw them too often. I can count the number of times i use it each year on one hand. If it wasnt so darn heavy it would make a good all-around rod.
  2. None of mine have done that! Maybe im just lucky? I would absolutely put a drop of solder on it if you can get it to stick. If not, a very small ball of JB weld putty on there will close the gap.
  3. As long as you are not fishing heavy cover, i would go for the M.
  4. Nightcrawlers are actually pink when drowned. Makes sense that pink works, especially in current.
  5. Sure! Just pour with no guard or pin in the mold and cut the excess off
  6. That rod would be great for 3/8 jigs and t-rigs (not in heavy cover), as well as buzzbaits... But its a bit light for frogs in cover. You could make due with frogs but it wouldn't be ideal. However the MH which is more ideal for frogs, will be too stiff for buzzbaits and lighter t-rigs unless fishing in cover. You will have to choose which is primary and which is a secondary use and go from there. FWIW I use a 7'MHF for pitching 3/8 jigs and with a trailer the 3/8 barely flexes the rod tip when fishing. Not sure how stiff of a rod you want, but this should give you a baseline.
  7. Hmm.. since I posted that I wasn't sure if it was accurate so I went outside and grabbed mine. I have a new spool of 12# hybrid in my left hand right now (600 clear) and a spool of trilene xl (330 green) on the desk. Both say 0.13 and the yozuri both feels and looks thicker when put together in my hand. Which one is lying to me? I bet its those dang pure fishing people
  8. I pick up all that I see! and they get melted down into jigs. They can absolutely be melted down and reused. Don't toss them in the trash, being in cali I bet scrap lead goes for a pretty penny.
  9. I want to say mine costed me right at 10-12 cents each to make, for 5" sticks, when I poured.
  10. Its quite a bit thicker than most mono. The diameters are listed on their website, you can compare it to the dia of your favorite line. Most people like throwing 12lb hybrid because the dia is closer to 15# and the breaking strength is high as well.. its really 14-15# line marked as 12#.
  11. Might as well! Strike king does it the same way (case by case). When the series 6 came out i hurried out and bought one. First time out it got SMASHED and when i set the hook the line went slack. I said a few choice words, mainly damninng the "pike" that just took my new bait. When i reeled it in i had the bill of a series 6 and nothing else. I sent an email to SK with the picture of a bill tied on my line and got a response almost immediately. They sent me 3 new series 6 and a red hat, along with a hand written apology from someone, i dont remember who. I still wonder what that was that hit me. Probably a catfish.
  12. I just watched a video yesterday where KVD was talking about SB crankbaits. He said back in the early 2000's they would buy cranks by the 100, per color. He said 1 or 2 out of 100 would have an erratic action, those they would keep and then sell the rest. That might have been the case with your bait!
  13. My list... GP for clearer waters (color blade black with sharpie) Black/Blue for dirty water (color blade with sharpie) White when they are on shad
  14. nevermind cant post link... one last try? http://www.ebay.com/itm/G-LOOMIS-NRX-822S-DSR-Green-Dropshot-Spinning-Rod-NEW-W-TAGS-WARRANTY-/311583118573?hash=item488bcd14ed:g:dxgAAOSwS7hXAa81
  15. Chartreuse is a great midwest color, I have caught a lot of fish on chartreuse plastics! The white worm you should be tossing when the fish are on shad. Usually pre-spawn when the shad are spawning, and again late summer and into fall. I know a worm doesn't look like a shad, but it will work. Or, when you find an area just loaded with active dink fish you can toss on those colors and use them up.
  16. That would be comparable to the OLD mojo bass spinnerbait rod (7'MHF). I use mine for... spinnerbaits.. and it does well for that. A little tip heavy like most mojo bass rods, but other than that they are pretty nice rods! You did very good.
  17. is your 1448 rated for 25? I don't think there is enough difference between a 20 and a 25 to justify one over the other, besides legality (if its rated for 20hp max). Choose whichever runs best.
  18. The 7'6 MH F veritas would be comparable to a Heavy XF in almost every other brand. They make great heavy cover rods though! But you won't have any tip action unless you stick a 1/2-3/4 weight on it. I use a MH veritas as my flippin jig rod, and it works well for that, but it doesn't have hardly ANY tip bend with a 3/8 jig and trailer, I wouldn't want to use it for plastics! Its listed as a Fast action but only has about 10-15% tip flex which puts it closer or at XF. The 7'6 MH veritas would make for a mean punching rod for 1-1.25oz weights in moderate punching cover. Its also widely used as a frog rod due to the stiffness and fast taper to backbone. My point is, don't buy that rod for all-around flipping and pitching unless you only plan to pitch heavy cover for reaction bites. What I would suggest for you would be to look very hard at the tatula XT line. I don't have any personally but I have friends that fish them and rave about them. I am picking my first one up this week. They retail for $99.99 at tackle warehouse. Pair that with a lews speed spool, also for $99.99, and you have a great combo. Both pieces have great warranty and great resale value if you end up changing your mind down the road. However, if you do decide to go a little cheaper, I use a lews laser mg 7:1 for flipping jigs and have had no issues. Some say the graphite parts will wear out, this is season 3 using that reel for flippin/pitchin and I havent had an issue yet. It is $79.99
  19. I buy mine already made since I get the "friend discount" from a buddy ($2 each). But I can tell you they are do-it molds football and poison tail jigs with mustad "tuna hooks" as I call them. I think they are sold as "flippin hooks"? but can't be sure. They are mustad round bend and very strong. I've only ever rolled the point on one and that was when I was snagged on a steel barge cable and the hook must have been caught in the cable itself. He makes them with tabs from fishingskirts.com and I wire tie them when I get them, using brass wire from hobby lobby. Like already mentioned, the hook and skirts are the only difference between all the small jig pourers' products. Find a head you like and customize the skirt!
  20. If you lose money by selling a custom made rod you goofed. You either got completely ripped off, had your name printed on it (I did that one!), or order some completely oddball colors or graphics. Otherwise you are buying componants and selling componants. The blank always has a value, as do the guides, they can be reused. A hand built "custom" rod with a good blank, good guides, a good reel seat, and a "normal" color scheme will have no problem selling at or near what you paid.. as long as your builder doesn't charge you $200 labor. The reason being is that just as someone else pointed out, it will be LESS than a comparable factory rod when talking high dollar rods.
  21. I fish a lake with 10-20' visibility. If you use straight braid the fish turn and swim the other direction. Tie on a 10' fluoro leader and the fish swim towards your lure. Took 10 casts to make me a believer in leaders. I don't use braid anymore except for SOME shakey head fishing and punching. I used to use braid for almost everything.
  22. Speaking from experience with WI and MN use with wopper ploppers... If there is a pike within 100 yards of you, he is going to hit it. The 90 is going to get snipped in a second. The 90 doesn't really make sense to me honestly. The wopper plopper is a BIG FISH BAIT. The 130 is a big fish size. The 90 is a "numbers" size in a big fish bait. If numbers is the target then a spook or buzzbait is the bait of choice.
  23. You will need at least a 12v 12ah to run an 1100 for 8 hours. Just for reference an 1159ci draws 1.3ah so it will probably run right around 8 hours on a 12ah battery. About 4hrs on a 7ah.
