  2. Catt, where did you find that? There's probably a dozen people locally who would love to get their $25,000 rigs back from the feds if that is true. Everything past the first sentence is about maximum persons and is moot. It is a USFW managed hunting lake. Guys were putting large outboards on duck blinds so they could race to the good spots at the midnight run (can't leave dock until 12:00 am).
  3. As long as you know he is on the up and up its probably all normal. Just have him call the finance company and see what they say. Does he have the registration from the last time it was registered? In Iowa you sign that over as part of the bill or sale, if you have a written bill of sale and the registration signed over you MAY be able to register the boat now.. even without a title. In Iowa you can use it for 30 days on a bill of sale, even with expired registration. Same with trailer tags.
  4. Like previously said, most small repairs will be do-able with evinrude parts. Any big malfunction is going to cause you issues, and may be a loss. I'd have your rig insured for NADA value. The motor won't be worth a ton, but if it blows you will be able to get almost any marine shop to declare it totaled and get the cash value out of it. Of course if you really like the boat.. you can always sell the johnson and pick up a different motor. Lots of motors hitting the market in the 2005-2008 years right now from people repowering with the new high performance four strokes. You might be able to do a little research and get the seller down low enough to where you can sell your johnson and pick up a used evinrude and still be around the seller's asking price, should be a simple swap with an evinrude.
  5. Yeah, it is where I live. As its a UNITED STATES COAST GUARD LAW. That trumps all state laws. You are breaking the law, even in Georgia. If you are ever checked by a federal USFW officer or a coast guard water patrol officer you will lose your rigs. I have met USFW officers in some of the most remote spots of Iowa so don't think you will never see one. That is not true. They maybe 250 power heads, but they are factory detuned to within legal HP (5% I think???). My current 90 is a 115 motor that is detuned in the ECM to be 91HP. Also, don't suggest the changing stickers or cowls. We had a big sting on a local lake about 10 years ago where the USFW along with the local wardens checked every boat on the lake. They ran serial #'s and found lots of 150-200's marked as 75-115's and all of them were seized if operating or ticketed if "docked" at the lake. The feds take it very seriously as it is dangerous to everyone on the water, not just you.
  6. It was aluminum. I thought I read aluminum in here somewhere as well? Guess I'm just going nuts!
  7. No indication what so ever. You need to find the plate and see how big you can go. Going over the uscg hp limit is a severe violation and is cause for seizure of watercraft. In other words, if caught you will lose your boat.
  8. Yours will have simple plumbing, pump to livewell and then livewell to drain and livewell to overflow. Just as "simple" as removing all of your decking/flooring that coveres the hoses and running new hoses. Takes about 8 hours to do it, i did it this spring on a 97 ranger. On mine i had to remove all the carpet to remove the flooring as well.. If yours is the same, you will need another hour to lay carpet. be sure you use smooth tubing and not bilge tubing.
  9. If you run that one down in 4 hours you have bigger issues! That battery should do you well. What charger did you leave it on when stored? Does that charger have a float/maintenance mode or just trickle 1-2ah output?
  10. The terrova noise came up on WC board a while back, seems everyone who had the issue got it fixed under warranty at repair centers. Don't know why they wouldn't do anything for you... but just to clear the air, the "tarrova squeal" is covered under warranty.
  11. And if it breaks because you exceeded the 1500# weight limit you will be out half the price of a talon, plus you will need to buy the talon! Do it right the first time. Your boat weighs 1500# without any fuel, water, gear, or people in it. It may work the first day, it may work the 10th day.. but if it breaks the mount on the 20th day you will be out $700. The first question power pole is going to ask is what boat you had it on, you can lie if you want.. that's up to you.
  12. I use 400# for duck decoys. You aren't spooling that stuff onto any spool smaller than a trailer winch. 60' of anchor line should hold your kayak in 30' of water easily. Probably a lot deeper if you up it to a 5# anchor. By the way, you need stretch in your anchor line or you will just pop your anchor loose with every wave or movement of the boat. That's why they sell "anchor line" that has extra stretch built in.
  13. Wouldnt cause it to not work though. My maxxum 70 will run on 12v.
  14. Does the ulterra not have the groove in the shaft? Can run cable up there and out by the head.
