  1. Nice fish Wayne. Whatd she weigh? I've never fished Briery, I should change that
  2. im in
  3. Back in January my local Gander had that same combo for $200 as well. There was also a store wide sale going on which bumped the price of each combo to $150. I bought one when they were about to close. That night I couldn't sleep thinking about what a good deal it was so I went back the next day and bought another. ;D I think you will be pleased
  4. Hey Caleb, I've been out lately. They're really hitting the 20 inch swimbaits rigged up on an ugly stick. If you throw that tomorrow you'll be in the money
  5. Haha. We got a tourney on Claytor this weekend, be glad you dont have to waste 8 hours of your day to maybe catch one 2 lber
  6. Congrats on the boat buy. I'm sure it will serve you well. I recommend spending your fishing time on the Potomac if you hadn't already planned on it. It's an awesome fishery. Sometime this spring/summer I'm sure we will organize some type of tourney for fun, you should join us
  7. Dang Rob, I'm jealous but I'm glad to hear people are starting to get back out. I've been meaning to send you a PM but haven't got around to it. Seems as though every professor wants to squeeze an exam in before spring break. I hope you all have some pictures to post up. Edit: NewAngler, in a couple of weeks (depending on what way the temps trend) that place I told you about might be worth checking out
  8. John, that is actually the new down imaging upgrade available for the Humminbird fishfinders. But yes, both that and the side imaging are pretty amazing. I've got the same electronics on my boat as Wayne has got, the Humminbird 798c SI but I haven't really gotten a chance to try it out much. As soon as the ice melts that will change...
  9. I'm curious to see some reviews on these as well. Seems like an easy way to make some keel weighted hooks to fish soft plastics
  10. Hmm, interesting. Socc, do those just thread onto the line like a bullet weight and then you tie on a hook and t-rig something? Have you used them on the Potomac yet?
  11. As far as water temp, I've waded the New with no waders probably mid-April at the earliest the past 2 years. At that time in the year, its pretty chilly, theres gonna be some shrinkage, but its possible. By later April it gets more comfortable. But obviously water temps will vary by year. And outside temp plays a key part too in terms of wading comfort. It's alot easier to wade 60 degree water when its 75 out in contrast to wading 60 degree water when its 55 and windy. And there's no way we can know what the outside temps will be until a few days before the trip. Like NewRiver said, I'm sure all the water temps are colder this winter than ones past.
  12. Rob, did they catch anything worth talking about?
  13. I'm in since I'll already be down here at VT. It seems like this is already the consensus but dont waste your time at Claytor, fish the New. And like I said in my last post before the thread got deleted, I'm on the VT bass fishing team so the information from those guys and my own fishing trips around that time I'm banking on having a good idea of what the fish are doing/hitting. Hopefully that equates to some big smallies for us all. And if NOVA and Thai do a float the day before I'm sure they will have good info for us. Should be a fun time
  14. You guys should post up a thread in the "Fishing Women" section asking what a fair trade would be. I'm sure no offense would be taken ;D
  15. Hmm hard for me to say what it might be without being able to look at it firsthand and take it apart. I've done some troubleshooting with mine over the years so have learned a thing or two. I clean mine with help from Reel Mech's book. Saves a lot of money. So can't help you with local places but I'm sure some of the NoVA crew has some suggestions if you plan on sending/taking it somewhere to be cleaned
  16. Is the thumb bar popping back up when you crank like it should? When is the last time you cleaned it or had it cleaned?
  17. Is it just the lighting or was that snakehead that dark? I've never seen one so black
  18. Barefoot all the way, but usually I am fishing on a boat. Wouldn't do barefoot if I was bank fishing. Yeah, its probably not the safest or most supportive for your feet, but man, isn't great to be barefoot out in the warmth? Now, if I'm fishing whenever its too cold to go barefoot, it feels so clunky and awkward fishin in shoes.
  19. Steve, I think the site censored out whatever you wrote and put I'm a dork instead. haha. I was trying to figure out what you were talking about and then it clicked
  20. Are you happy with them? If so, at that price I can't pass them up
  21. Good looks LHC, never saw that thread. Hmm, hopefully someone will come along who's fished em. They are some nice looking artwork, but its whats on the bottom that counts
  22. I know there have been a number of frog threads recently, but thought this question might get lost in them. I was on youtube last night just watching some topwater bass videos when I came across one that showed a type of frog I had never seen before. They gave a site to further check them out so I went there. Here's the site http://www.floridakayakfishing.com/ On the homepage there you can see some videos of the maker of this frog (Ken Daubert) fishing it and one that shows the action of the frog. It looks good, but I've never heard anything about them til I stumbled on that video. Anyone hear of these, good or bad? The guy fishes in Florida, maybe some of the Florida crew here has heard of him, the website says he used to guide down there. They aren't cheap though. A frog in the lowest priced "series" of these frogs, the Clone series, goes for about $10 the site says. I guess its not much more than a Spro. My two concerns with these, not knowing anything about them, are the weight/castability of the frog and how the legs would hold up. What do you guys think?
  23. I've been keeping an eye on the Dobyns website waiting to see when they would add the Savvy series but I haven't seen the site updated. Are they out yet? Socc, since we both fish the Potomac, what do you plan on using the 735 for? I want to get one of the Savvy rods, preferably one that I could use for flipping as well as some frogging
  24. Some good points here about snakeheads. So far the bass population doesn't seem like it has been affected, but that doesn't mean nothing will happen in the future. Honestly though, they have become so widespread I don't think there is anything we could do to get rid of them. Dan, I'm not trying to argue with you, I'm sure you know much more about snakeheads than I do, but I know for a fact they inhabit the same waters bass do. I believe you that they can live in waters with lower oxygen levels than bass, but that doesn't mean every snakehead will live in that lower oxygen area. Perhaps you weren't implying that, I apologize if I misunderstood you. I have caught snakeheads in the same areas and times while I was catching bass. I can also attest to the fact that snakeheads are on the main river now. I had one blow up on a Rage Tail Shad on a main river grassbed near the Gunston Cove area last summer. I don't know where you caught your two, if it was the main river then obviously you know this already. Regardless, I kill any snakehead I catch, if for no other reason than they often destroy whatever bait they hit.
  25. I live in Stafford county when I'm not at school and I wouldn't call it NoVA. But the majority of the places I used to fish were in counties that would be considered NoVA. Now I just stick to the Potomac. But call it what you want, I couldn't care less
