  1. I went ahead and just took pictures of what was happening so I'll post them up. I will just take it back and hopefully they will exchange for new. Here is the first one when the line is tight, everything looks fine to me. Then when I cast this is what happens. The line springs off the spool and its all twisted and is just a general mess. Having to fish with it would suck. Heres another shot of it The pictures don't show it the greatest but it was the best I could get.
  2. Well it does it inside my house as well as outside. The first time it happened it was about 50 and today it was 60 or so outside so I wouldn't consider it real cold.
  3. I'll gladly post one up, I had thought about doing it in the first place but its kind of a bother. I just grabbed the rod and reel to take a picture of what was happening and thought I'd take a quick little pitch to see what happened and it seemed a little bit better. I still don't know if I would want to spend a day fishing with it. I wonder if the line sat on the spool in the box a long time (I bought it at Gander Mountain) and maybe it just needs to gain the memory of sitting on a reel? I will let it sit overnight and if in the morning its still messed up then I will post some pics. Thats my best guess :-?
  4. Underwater of course. I'm just curious how far bass can see when water clarity is say 1 foot, 3 feet, etc. I'm know that vibration and what not plays a big part too but they got to use those eyes for something. Anyone know?
  5. Here's the deal, I spooled 12 pound Yo Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft on my baitcasters and haven't had any problems with it. I then spooled 6 pound Yo Zuri ultra soft on my Shimano Stradic and that is when the problems began. I had it all spooled up and took it out to give it a few casts and as soon as I turned the drag off or flipped the bail then the line just came flying off the spool in a big clump. I've spooled a number of other spinning reels with line (mainly mono though) and never had this happen. I looked at it and decided I had probably over filled it some and that might have screwed it up so I cut some off but it still happened. Then I thought I must've somehow messed up the line while spooling so I took it all off and put new line on (same Yo Zuri). I filled it a little less full and took it out and the same thing happened. Not as bad but nonetheless I don't think it's fishable. I honestly don't know why its doing that, maybe I'm missing something really simple :-?. Could I have got a bad batch? So if anybody has any ideas on how to fix it I'd appreciate it.
  6. I'm with muddy, I don't see anything wrong with this. I'm not going out and trying to buy some dynamite now just because I read this post. Welcome to the forums Fish-n-Chicks.
  7. Alright thanks guys. I will have to do a little more investigation. Yeah I checked to make sure it was on good and tight so it's got to be something else. :-/
  8. I've got a Humminbird 400tx on my boat. It's worked fine for me in the past and the last time I took my boat out in 2006, everything was good. Yesterday I went out for the first time this year and guess what, the fishfinder won't power on. The battery was fine because it was running other things. I fiddled around with it and tried it again today but nothing. It's odd, I really have no clue what could've caused it to just quit. I checked the little pins and they weren't bent, the wiring didn't seem to be messed up. The actual monitor/screen I take off and the only thing that was outside in the winter was the mounted base that is screwed onto the console. I checked the Humminbird website and couldn't really find any troubleshooting help on there. I guess I should also send them an email too but was wondering if anybody else has any tips on what could be messed up. Thanks in advance
  9. No cover because we had been out the night before giving it a cleaning and it got dark on us. We planned to go out again the next day because all they had called for was rain so we left it uncovered. Turns out the weatherman was wrong, :
  10. Well I just couldn't seem to get bit on a 1/2 oz casting weight, I just didn't understand why not. Seemed like a good pattern to me. NHBA, I bet you had the lake to yourself. I'm planning on getting out this weekend for sure. I can't wait. Snook I used to live in Tampa, I'm a big Bucs fan, maybe this next season will be better than last years. :-/
  11. Simplifying those colors for crankbaits really helps because there are so many different colors I'm always trying to figure out which ones to get. I don't fish crankbaits a lot but I'm trying to use them a little more this spring and summer. So the color you like best in a river is the brown craw with red belly or something (I forget exactly what it was called on that Ebay link)?
  12. About a week ago I looked at the extended forecast and thought maybe this Sunday would be a good day to hit the water for the first time this year. Well the weather took a turn for the worst and I woke up to about 5 or so inches of snow. That didn't deter me, I was still out front of my house pitching and flippin a casting weight to isolated cover like electrical boxes, fire hydrants and windows. Needless to say I think cabin fever is getting to me. :-?
  13. Hello ladies
  14. I would look around on Ebay, all the local newspapers classified sections (just do a search for the newspapers websites). Check out local bass clubs forums for postings of boats for sale. I got my boat for a pretty good deal from here http://b4.boards2go.com/boards/board.cgi?user=bassjons4 Occasionally boats will be posted up there. Look at craigslist.com. Just look around and eventually you will find something, just be prepared to drive some to get it. I don't know where you live in VA but I live in Fredericksburg and had to drive down to Norfolk to pick mine up. Good Luck Edit: haha just looked at your profile and your in Fred too
  15. When people say "T-rigged senko" on this site they generally mean weightless. It is still hooked the same way (weedless) as you would a plastic worm but there is no bullet sinker. I've never bothered to actually fish a senko with a bullet weight but did buy some weighted hooks that I wanted to give a shot. Never got around to trying them last year though. :-/
  16. I saw the same exact thing and planned to post the same general question as well. It was pretty crazy that they can do that. One of my goals for this year is to get better at reading my fishfinder because I think I have really under utilized it other years. I knew turning off the fish symbols were necessary but its turning the sensitivity up? I thought on ESPN they said that you had to turn the sensitivity down until you could only see the bait and the fish. Maybe I'm mistaken. But any other help about this or graphs in general I would gladly read.
  17. Nice boat. I've got one of the older Lowe 150's. If you don't mind my asking how much did it cost because I've been wanting to upgrade to something a little bigger and with a larger outboard.
  18. Alright thanks, that really simplifies it. If it works for you I'm sure it will work for me.
  19. Roadwarrior are you saying that you use Hybrid for all your presentations? I've been meaning to try out some Yo-Zuri or fluoro but dont want to have to buy a bunch of different brands, tests, etc. I want to spool something on my reels that is versatile and that I can use for any presentation.
  20. I'm jealous. You guys slayed them out there. So mostly on live shad? How were you fishing the live minnows (hooking them, fishing them, etc) I dont do too much fishing with live bait but maybe I will have to 'cheat' sometime soon.
  21. I always take atleast one holding the fish vertically and then one horizontally and see which one I like best. If it was a PB then I would take more. I'm with bass109 on this one, holding it out to try and make it look bigger is like cheating. I will usually just hold it a few inches out in front of me.
  22. I ordered a book today too but I just checked my Paypal account and it didn't say it was refunded. Does that mean I got one of the last copies. 8-) If I didn't does anyone know of any sites that would help out. The only ones I have found just talk about basic maintenence.
  23. Well I've only been fishing baitcasters for about a year so I might not be the best expert but I will tell you what I know. I usually have 2 or 3 of them on for any type of cast I do depending on wind, etc. I don't really flip though, still working on mastering it. The more you have on the more it will brake, making your casts shorter. So its a personal preference thing really, if you can cast consistently with no backlashes with no brakes on then go for it but if you can't do that then put maybe 3 or so on and see what you can do then. As for skipping I do that with spinning gear. It's a whole lot easier. Setting the brakes across from eachother like you described is the correct process. Hope that helps
  24. Thanks guys I think I'm going to get Reelmechs book
  25. I have two of the older model Curados that I want to give a thorough cleaning before I start fishing again in a few weeks. I've already spent close to $400 on fishing gear this year before the season has even started so I think I want to try cleaning them myself to save a little money. I do routine cleaning but never totally taken them apart so I'm a little nervous. My question to those of you who have experience with these things is how difficult is it? Obviously I will print out the schematics and use those. Are there any shortcuts to clean them without taking it all apart? As far as materials go what should I use to clean the parts and then what should I use to lube them up. What would you lube besides the obvious things like bearings? I'm not exactly sure how to tell if a part is worn and should be replaced, I guess if I have any doubt I will take a picture of it and post it up on the board for some of the experts to determine. Thanks for any help.
