  1. I am looking around trying to find a nice backpack for fishing i seen one at BPS that was only $29.99 and looked pretty nice i seen Abu Garcia has one for like $50 and TW has one for $70 and looked about the nicest i've seen. I am looking around for more but haven't seen any. Anyone use these? I think they are much better then a tackle box because more storage and easier to carry and especially for me fishing without a boat current. Just looking for some input on these if anyone has any recommendations.
  2. Well, thats why i didn't get a more expensive one, i got that for 33.99 and i can upgrade later and im not really out anything and have a extra rod.
  3. I went with the Pflueger President and the Abu Garcia Vengeance 2 Piece. I got them on TW for $10 off each because they price matched DSG plus they gave me the 15% off and i will just upgrade the rod at a later time because i have to have a piece till probably around september.
  4. These are pretty much my options now, Abu Garcia Vendetta 2piece , Berkley Lightning Stock(if it is 2 piece), Fenwick HMX2 piece, Shimano Clarus 2 Piece and those are pretty much what ive found for the price range and is 2 pieceso which do you guys think would be the best?
  5. I can't even find that many 2 piece rods, a few say it but others say nothing. Like the ugly stick doesn't say it but i know it is, not buying that again but how can i tell if they are 2 piece? most of the pictures are half pictures, for obvious reasons.
  6. Yea thinking about it, i have to have a 2 piece, so now i don't even know what to do, i wanted to order tonight but i don't know if ill be able to figure it out by then. Any recommendations are really appreciated.
  7. Well, usually go fishing with 1-2 other people so passenger seat really wouldn't be open.
  8. Where is that? And my only reason for debate on the powell diesel is the size, its 6"10 and the car i usually take to go fishing a ford focus, idk if it will fit and not be damaged at all. It is 1 piece correct?
  9. I can get them both for about the same price a lot of people have said the power diesel but a lot of people also say St. Croix. I use plastic worms and grubs mostly, what would be best for me. Or another one if there is one, i prefer to stay around the $70-80 range
  10. Ok, so ill stick with spinning for now and so far i have the Pfleuger Trion and a Berkley Lightning Rod or the Trion combo (i think this is spinning?) Any others people would recommend, like i said around $100 a little over owuld be fine.
  11. Spinning, i'm gonna start there and maybe when i do want to get a better more expensive rod get a baitcaster. I don't have a BPS nearby but could order online. they have 5.95 shipping which isn't bad. Edit: Really though, baitcasting seems to be like what i am used to with spincast just that i stop the line with my thumb correct? I haven't looked into it to much. Maybe i should get one of those?
  12. I tried it and the rod and reel were junk and the reels were left handed but it still wasn't that bad, just have to get used to flipping the bail before reeling. I am gonna take my rod and reel back and get something else. I am not gonna go all out yet probably spend around $100 what you you guys recommend in that price range?
  13. I have wondered about that too, this site should have a spots where people post good deals they find for fishing gear.
  14. Right now, a row boat but aluminum boat in the future.
  15. Don't need anything amazing just looking for a good reliable trolling motor.
  16. Well, i am gonna go fishing this morning and my dad has a spinning reel in the shed, so i am gonna try it again. If i like it im switching. If i don't like it idk, i might try and get a cheap baitcasting reel just to try that. I think though from everything i've learn that i will like it. I also think when i was a kid i never really gave them a chance. I was like why am i gonna flip this thing back and forth when i can just press a button?
  17. Well, and that might be how the same with my dad. My question is what isn't good about the ugly stick? Now again, i am a beginner but i have used the ugly stick and i could tell a huge difference from other rods i have used. It was much more sensitive then other rods. They are supposed to like never break, only things ive seen about them breaking was stuff other then fishing. Not saying that there isn't better but for $30 it seems like it would be the best for a beginner. AGAIN, i pretty much know nothing.
  18. Mine does not have the handle on the back. It is the SPL 1102 i was supposed to get the SPC 1102 it is 5'10 and medium action. I don't have a spinning reel, i have a spincast reel.
  19. That was the other thing, the rod i have and have always used is spincasting. Thought about switching to a spinning rod but what are the real differences?
  20. Well, i did think about taking it back but and upgrading because i really have been enjoying fishing, but i don't have the receipt i don't think meijers will take it back. So for now i will probably stick to the cheaper rod and reel and upgrade later, but i want to have the right combo if this is causing problems with my reel. But i do plan to upgrade probably at the end of summer.
  21. I have been fishing at brandenburg park on the pier, in new baltimore, a lot this year, but due to fishflies i don't want to go there now. I thought about going over to lakeville and maybe renting a boat, but other then that i don't know to many spots. I don't have a boat so i'd be fishing off the bank, unless there is a boat rental near like at lakeville. BTW, i am in the thumb, but more by the knuckle.
  22. I just started getting back into fishing this year. Hadn't done it since i was a kid, i asked my dad what rod and reel i should get and he told me he always liked the ugly stick and shakespeare reels so i went and got it. And i like it a lot, but i noticed the last time i went fishing that it would sort of like snag sometimes when reeling it in and also that when i catch a fish even if it is small it would not reel all the way in well. It would get it out of the water on the pier i fished on but then i pretty much had to grab the line while its down like 10 feet. So i started looking around and thought maybe the reel just wasn't good. But i found that the rod i have is a spinning rod and my reel is spincasting. Do you guys think this would cause problems with my reel? The only differences i notice between them is that mine doesn't have a little handle on the back, and that it has a little loop on the bottom.
