  1. I have more than one. 1. Squarebills 2. Senko 3. Beavers 4. Tubes
  2. I really want to start throwing big glide baits/swimbaits...along with everyone else lol I bought some good ones last year, but just didn't get a chance to use them as much as needed. I need a swimbait setup to start. I know there are not many, if any at all, throwing big swimbaits in WV. I'd like to get on it before they do!
  3. I used to use the uni to uni knot, now using Alberto knot. I like the Alberto more because I feel it slides through guides better and I can have it tied in less than a minute.I have started messing with the FG knot here lately with great results so far. I think once I learn to tie it faster I may switch to it.
  4. Haha looks like American Legacy is out already. No good.
  5. I don't think the new SV spool has been confirmed as fitting the OG...or have I missed a post? I thought it was just speculation at this point...
  6. d**n son you've gone all out! How are you liking the LTD?
  7. Wow, thanks for taking the time to explain the basics!
  8. I haven't figured out how to fish my small 1200 acre lakes effectively! There are only a couple ramps per lake, a couple roads or bridge crossings, and steep bushy hills everywhere. Its pretty darn frustrating without a boat. Better off to fish the smaller bodies of water.
  9. Seems like most can agree on wool gloves. I've been wanting to buy the Simms Pro gloves for awhile now. $100, but that includes two gloves I believe...the outer glove is for the boat ride. I like the ones A-jay posted too.
  10. I've heard or read of people doing it. Give it a shot, it sounds good!
  11. A lot of lures will work, but there are sometimes those dang fish are picky about the size. There has been many times I've been there and thrown spooks, flukes, pop r, and they wanted a tiny 2" swing impact reeled super fast. I guess sometimes it just depends on what size bait they're chasing.
  12. Daiwa fixed the grooving issue I believe, but yes like he said, get the Alphas SV. Does he have a price range?
  13. I sold my LTD and the next day grabbed this one after i regretted putting the LTD up for sale. Hate the knobs, but that's an easy fix! Oh and got a heck of a deal on it too!!
  14. I use the Dobyns 705cbmf glass and I really like it for squarebills. It's a little heavier than I'm use to, but it gets the job done. Does a very good job at keeping fish hooked. Have you had a chance to fish with any of the ones you're interested in?
  15. Do it!! I haven't put them on a drop shot, but I use them on senkos with great success. It's something different for me being a non boater. I just fish them like normal and swim the, too...all works. Give it a try and let us know!
  16. I didn't mean to jack the post, but I do appreciate your feedback guys!
  17. What about using them when conditions are just tough? When the water is 65 and below (like now) Or stained water? I know they are more of a clear water lure, but have you had success in stained water? There is only a cpl lakes around here with clear water and they are about an hr or two away.
  18. Yes he has it down! Last year I bought some, and when I used a trailer the hair clumped together. Especially when I used a small pork trailer that I cut to fit. I guess they are just completely different looks from normal jigs. I thought I was doing something wrong. Thanks Smalljaw!
  19. Messed up the first post. Smalljaw...I watch you tie all the time, and they look fantastic! Do you use a trailer more times than not? For dragging, not swimming.
  20. I can't say I would have changed the way I went. I had a few decent combos in the $100-$250 range, and now I've upgraded all of those. I now have 6 combos that I absolutely love and they are all high quality. I catch hell from people for having such nice setups, and I know I won't catch more because of them, but I do cast better and have more confidence with them.
  21. It doesn't matter all that much to me. Like a lot of us, I will probably lose a jig before the collar rots or the skirt gets torn to shreds. I have them made both ways though, and I do like the option for a wire tied.
  22. I won't go to in depth as I think you should read Senkos link. Basically with cranking you want a soft parabolic rod to keep those fish hooked. Stay within your rods specifications when choosing which size crank to throw with it. 10-12-14lb line will be good for any cranking scenario. Just look at what cover you're throwing around and accommodate accordingly. A lot of guys, including myself throw square bills on 14lb line. The key to cranking in my eyes is making sure I'm hitting something with the lure. You want to get that bait down and drag the bottom, hit stumps, rip it out of grass, and cause that lure to act erratically. As far as which reel to choose. Normally if in the winter or you're throwing deep cranks, you want that slower ratio. And sometimes the fish want a faster retrieve. You'll have to figure it out, but I would start with a 6:4:1 or something around that. Hopefully this helps. You can throw cranks anywhere you want to just make sure your hitting something!! I think this is my longest post to date lol
  23. I haven't personally ordered from there. I have seen multiple people over time mention their site. As long as PayPal is involved, I'm confident.
