  1. My Expride is an A and has no hook holder. I have a Douglass Outdoors crankbait rod whose hook hanger is at the butt. Is IS a PIA. You grab the front treble hook of any bait if you don’t use hook covers.
  2. The KLX and Helium are similar in weight. KLX's are mod/fast and Heliums are F or XF. You might also consider their jerkbait specific rod. It's 6'10", a light-medium-heavy action, and the Helium's KC9 blank. I've got a couple LMH rods and really like their softer tip and MH-like backbone, which would be better for extra deep jerkbaits. It also has the same 8" handle length. Good luck with your choice.
  3. I drove through Braintree, Holbrook, and Hanover doing errands today. All the ponds I drove by were locked up.
  4. I'm guilty. I watch too much Tactical Bassin' videos and bought one because it's supposed to be the perfect jerkbait rod. My primary jerkbait rod a Kistler 6'9" KLX M/MF. Both have nearly the same action. The KLX is a shade lighter and, to me, a slightly shorter and more comfortable grip. Both are great jerkbait rods. The Kistler is $100 cheaper than the Shimano when you catch it on sale. The KLX is also made in Texas and the Shimano was made in China.
  5. I have an electric percolator from the '60s. To this day it makes the best coffee, period. I'm too cheap to pay $4+ for a cup of black coffee at Starbucks, and Dunkin' Donuts is hot brown water so I use a Keurig most of the time. Luckily I found San Fransisco FOG CHASER. It's a good strong coffee that averages 55 cents a cup. And YES, black is the only way to drink coffee.
  6. I'm making this post to remember the day the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor and brought the US into World War II and all those who gave their lives as a result. I watched and listened to my local news for most of the morning and didn't see or hear a whiff about it. It seems that it's mostly forgotten. I won't forget it. 🇺🇸
  7. I'll throw chatter/spinner baits if I'm on my crank bait rod if I'm on my kayak. It's an older Kistler KLX 7'3" MH/MF. It it throws 1/4 oz and up nicely.
  8. I have no preference as long as I feel that 'tick' and 'pull'.
  9. Nope. Go to your local book store and buy a deck of cards & sudoka game book.
  10. Got to Plymouth for a couple hours this afternoon. Took a goose egg. Didn’t mark much of anything. I worked a few laydowns in chance of repeating yesterday’s success and some lingering salad in 8-10’. I threw the normal cold water baits and kept it pretty slow. Water temps were 41.x.
  11. I own close to 40 rods. I broke 4 rods in the last 10 years. One in my truck's tailgate, another by my power windows that go up automatically with a button on my remote, the third got caught by my boat's rod locker lid that was blown closed, and lastly, number four broke when I slapped a lure on the water to clean it and was too low and hit the rod on my boat's edge. I guess that's how I break rods....
  12. I checked off December with a 1# perch and 3.63# Larry at one of my favorite Plymouth waters. That makes three years and 10 months consecutively catching fish in MA open water. The bass came from under the same tree I caught a 4_8 LMB a couple weeks ago. Today's bass took a 1/4 oz green/chartreuse @Siebert Outdoors finesse jig with a green/purple flake Yamamoto Flappin' Hog trailer cut down to make a smaller snack. Larry fought pretty good for 42.x* water. I found a couple bait balls in 20', but it looked like everyone was stuck to the bottom, even the pickerel that I can normally catch while trolling a crankbait. It was mostly sunny and winds were light from the NW. Air pressure was 30.2. I might get out tomorrow and target SMB.
  13. Sounds like my collection... and a pile more of all brands, shapes, and colors. I'll add Rapala Shadow Rap and Rip Stops (shallow and deep) during the winter time. I can't say exactly why, but they work. So, yes, I'll say Megabass jerkbaits are the king.
  14. Dad, no questions.
  15. BAD NEWS !!!!!! I was heading down '53 today and the southern half of Whitman's Pond had some skim ice on it !!!
  16. Cold water to me is low 40's to high 30's. I had one cold water rescue in my FD career and went in after a setup that fell off my kayak in February. I had proper gear for my rescue, and a change of clothes in my truck when I saved my rig.
  17. I'll be 'unretiring' in '25, but until then I'm on a steady course of taking care of family and fishing when time allows. Spending more time in NH with my boat is a priority. Maybe Maine too.
  18. I've been lucky. Southeastern MA & Cape Cod haven't frozen in the last three years. I don't fish as much, but I still get out. Family obligations keep me pretty busy, but I clean all my gear and read/watch as much as I can to absorb more fishing mojo so I can be like @A-Jay, @Fishing Rhino, @Mr. Aquarium, and @Saltysmalljaws when I 'grow up'.
  19. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
  20. I live in a city and have coyotes through my property almost every night. I've lost 3 cats over the last 20 years. I bring them in at dusk but I was away for the last one and my wife left them out later than usual. I had video of Princess going right down my driveway after two of them, thinking they were dogs. It didn't work out well for her. Coyotes are legal to hunt in MA, but not on/near my property. The houses are too close together. Definitely NOT my friend's husky....
  21. Yes you should, and thank you. The more the merrier. I had an hour to kill this morning so I drove to Blue Hills Res to wet a line. There are NO SWIMMING and NO TRESPASSING signs around it now. You, me, and @Saltysmalljaws. TW has them on sale now, stock up.
  22. I have 2 sets of BPS rain gear. One is light and the other is their 100mph. They’ve been good for the few seasons I’ve had them.
  23. Can't say for sure. That's what they have listed on their website. I bought them and can't tell a difference. There's a link to their jerkbait video on their website under 'TECHNIQUES'. It's a long, very detailed video and explains hook replacements.
  24. I pulled this off TacticalBassin's website: "110 Junior Replacement Hook– Gamakatsu 1X Black (Size 8):"
  25. OK, but how does the wildlife (fish/birds/frogs) pay the fine?
