  1. I fish for bass a several times a week and when the ocean conditions are rough on weekends out of a yak. I love it. I recommend demoing several before purchase. It's amazing how different they all are. That being said if you get a stable yak that is not just designed to haul butt they are all pretty d**n Hard to flip. People land 100lbs fish on yaks regularly! If you can afford a hobie with the mirage drive that is the way to go. I recently upgraded to the hobie outback and it is a whole new level. It's nice because I can fish standing up or sitting down and it's super stable. I have landed fish in 9 foot swells and some wind chop with no problem.
  2. if weightless is working for dinks try a very light weight, even a small split shot for the weight for your dorp shot. I usually run about a 16" leader for my weight. how long was your weight leader? even switching to FC line makes noticible difference in fall rate that might trigger larger bites.
  3. I also fish a shallow lake and catch numbers of smaller (1lbs) with the robo worm alive shad weightless on a size 3 owner worm hook. I like the black top and blue top alive shad. I use a cheap daiwa 6' light / medium rod with a spinning reel on 6lbs test FC. I have caught up to 2.5 lbs fish on those alive shads, i usually bust this rig out during the heat of the day when it is slow.
  4. thanks! that is very helpful.
  5. crankbaits are my go to baits and in my experience rather than setting the hook with a huge swing I just reel very quickly and have good results. for square bills i like to use a 6/6 medium rod with fast action with a 7:1 reel.
  6. I tried fishing buzz baits for the first time yesterday. Due to the wind I did not get to throw them very much. But I did notice that my skirted jig head would not run vertically, but was clocked at about a 45 degree angle. I was using a snap swivel on 10lbs line and a spinning reel. Is that a good presentation or should I work out a set up that allows the jig head and skirt to run vertically under the prop?
