    Hair Jigs

I've been tying bucktails since I was in Junior High!! LOL but I've tied hair jigs as low as 1/32nd with many different types of hair. They flat out work well!!
  2. Never heard of that brand!! But I'd say get some bear hair and tie up your own. I've got Black, Brown and Grizzly. You CAN get polar bear if you want to do the paper work to get it. Looking at the picture of the card it says "Special jig hair" ? But are you sure it's bear?
  3. I've been tying wet fly patterns on jigs for years since I saw an article in Vermont fishing magazine from the late 80's. They do work well with and without a float.
  4. I make my own and have always used Mustad's and Eagle Claws but I bought them in bulk and haven't had any problems with them. I've tried single hooks but didn't notice any change in hookups. Any that I've bought since I get red or black nickle.
  5. Nice! They look good!! I've got enough stuff to make them for the rest of my life! Never put a crane swivel on them but have tried the split ring and didn't like it. I use an old Wire forming tool that I bought back when they were just Netcraft and still using it!! Would love a Hagen's but too much money!! Enjoy the hobby and keep catching!!
  6. I buy most of my blades from Hagen's unless I find classic blades on the bay. You can buy less than minimum and it costs you a dollar more on each quantity of blade - if you do it this way call your order in!
  7. I let my Erie Dearie Style and Silver Buddy style molds go a long time ago and it took me time and money to get them back and I won't let them go again! they and the weight forward spinner molds show up on Ebay but you'll pay for them!! Put a search on ebay and they'll notify you when they pop up. Also check out all the bass boards and you might find them also. I've got a couple of Ament jig molds but being older molds you do a bit of trimming.
  8. When I bought my blanks a few years ago it cost me over $120 for 400 blanks. The only place I've seen molded ones for sale is ebay or once in a while Lure parts online. If you're going to powder coat or paint them you'll want the brass blanks to do those they hold the paint better. The chrome based blades are better for putting tape on.
  9. You can use mica powder but youd have to mix it with epoxy or clear powder paint. Some of the colors are really great I use the Jacquard Pearl Ex kits that you can buy 12 colors in a pack and when Michaels has a 50% off coupon you'll save some. Personally I mix it in clear powder paint.
  10. With the number on the market it would be tough! I gave up my molds years ago and finally got them back and make my own now. You can powder paint by tapping the paint on with a brush or use testor's paint then a two part epoxy over the top.
  11. Better safe than sorry!! If you've ever seen some of the burns people have suffered what you're wearing is excellent as long as you have long pants and boots or sneakers on
  12. IF the news is right and China invades Taiwan I think us tackle makers are in for a rough haul trying to get stuff!!

    Bait parts?

Another one with depending on what you have.
  14. I do 325 for 25 mins and haven't had any problems. But I got an in oven thermometer and found the damned thing was 35 degrees hotter than what I set it at!!! $5-$6 dollars for an in oven is definately worth it!!!

    Tinsel

We Well of course when you want to find something you can't!! The email I had for Supreme Corp doesn't work anymore and they don't show Lumaflex material anymore that I can see. Doing an internet search it says it's now made by Dupont

    Tinsel

I'll search my box's. I got a sample of a bunch of colors from them. I'll see if I can find it tonight.
  17. I have powder from Janns, Pro-tec, Rosey's, Powder by the Pound, Columbia and Eastwood. It's all good stuff. Never used the stuff from Harbor Freight but on another forum a guy put some clumped up Harbor Freight through an old Flour sifter which put it back in fine powder and added some clear and is still using it. I got my plans for a fluid bed from Cadman and learned brush tapping through his posts. I've gotten pretty good at mixing up colors also. Don't be afraid to use it, it works.
  18. Try Fly Tyers Dungeon https://www.flytyersdungeon.com/Materials/Chart_Crystal_Hair.htm
  19. If you can find big enough straws cut the to length and slit one side and then slide the jig inside. I got these straws at Dunkin donuts.
  20. Look good you'll get the hang of tying with hair as you practice. Cad taught a lot of us the in's and outs of powder painting!!! His Practice quote is dead on!! With the Janns powder I found that if you add a tablespoon of clear powder it helps to thin it out and it works better. I don't have many Pro-Tec colors left as I get automotive powder for doing my jigs.
  21. Yep stretch it and cut it down the skin side. I always clean out the vacume cleaner tub and suck up all the loose fur when I'm cutting and then keep that for making dubbing.
  22. There is some decent stuff but I really do prefer the Danville 210 thread. IMO the feathers suck I've found that they tend to run and bleed out. I had a bunch of guys that sent me feathers for jigs or return postage and I finally learned how to dye them myself.
  23. I made up cutters with razer blades and nuts and bolts As far as uniform they come out really good
