  1. Fascinating thread. I always wondered if you are at pond/lake by yourself and you catch a state record let alone the world record, what do you do first? Who should you call first? I wouldn’t even know what to do...haha.
  2. I use that website along with a line counter. I recently purchased 300 yards of 10lb braid. After the calculations, I spooled up 75yds of braid on 4 spinning reels (with 10lb mono backing) and everything came out perfect.
  3. I upgraded all the washers on my spinning reels. Easy install and well worth it. When I placed my last order, I asked them if the recommended light grease or dry and the recommended using light grease. I believe the Vanfords 3000 and up already come with the carbontex washers but I wish they all did.
  4. I purchased the Accu Cull scale that @jbsoonerfan and @A-Jay both use and it’s awesome. I highly recommend it! Wish I found out about it sooner!
  5. I have 3 pairs of Costas and literally just ordered another pair. I have Costas, Wiley X and Nines. I’ll take the Costas all day. Haven’t paid more than $120 for each Costa. Are they worth it?...absolutely. Costa was the first company to come out with colored polarized glasses too. Sunglasses is not only about the lens...it’s about quality and comfort. I consider my sunglasses as another tool/gear when I’m out fishing. I had a cataract in my 30’s and protecting my eyes with a pair of quality sunglasses is a high priority for me. From the pairs that I have, both the lens on the Nines and Wiley X had issues in the long run (film delaminated). Both companies had excellent customer service addressing the issue. That issue never happened to any of my Costas. With all that being said, I recommend a pair of Costas in Copper/Green Mirror lens. Great all around lens. Also I purchased my Dad a pair of Nines years ago. I just purchased him some Costa Permits in Green Mirror for his birthday which is tomorrow. We’ll see if he notices a difference. I also bought my wife a pair of Maui Jim’s years ago. Recently bought her a pair of Costas in the green mirror and she was blown away and it was half the price of the Maui Jim’s.
  6. I wouldn’t mind getting one either.
  7. I also got some slammers and slammers on the way. Never used them before so curious to see how they do.
  8. Ordered a couple 6” Megabass Magdraft and wondering what type and size line have you had the most success with? I know Zaldain uses 15lb Flouro but curious to know what everyone else uses. Thanks
  9. Add the item to your cart and go to the check out page. Click on “Show Order Summary” and write in the discount code and the new price should appear.
  10. Sportsman Outfitters has 15% off Tatulas. They already have the best prices on the Tatulas to begin with. Code: Tatula15 Tatula 100 ends up being $113 Tatula 200 - $121 Tatula 300 - $218 Tatula CT - $104 Tatula Rods - $121 Tatula XT - $80
  11. Is the eye of the weight is breaking or is your knot is breaking? What knot are you tying? Does the weight have a regular eye or is it one of those clamp down ones?
  12. Omnia has 20% off most items... Code: Memorial20 Hook Up Tackle has 15% off. Excludes certain brands. Code: USA
  13. I recently purchased 2 colors in the 2.5”. Can’t find the the 3.5” anywhere. The person that recommended it to me said let it sink then twitch it back. Anglers both men and women in Japan have caught some monsters on this bait.
  14. My apologies for bringing up TW. I just thought people would like to know ahead of time that they weren’t having one of their annual sales. I usually prep for it and I’m sure other people do to. Didn’t mean for this sale thread to get off track. Back to sales fellow anglers!
  15. Just a FYI...I contacted Tackle Warehouse to see if they were having a Memorial Day sale and they said “No, not this year”. EDIT: This was originally posted in the ongoing Latest Sale thread and moved here because it ignited a whole separate discussion. I did not start a new thread just to say that TW is not having their Memorial Day sale.
  16. Think of backing as a “filler” for your reel and also gives the braid something to grip on to prevent it from slipping when retrieving your bait or fighting a fish. I usually use 100 yds of braid and mono backing for the rest.
  17. Does the Accu Cull weigh in pounds and ounces in the same setting? I have a Rapala and have the same issues. Never know if it’s going to turn on. My friend caught a 5lb smallie couple weeks ago and the Rapala wouldn’t turn on. Good thing we had a back up scale.
  18. A 1/2 oz jig + trailer will be closer to 3/4oz or even more. I just don’t think jigs at that size is the best choice to testing for distance either. Try a lipless crank and report back. I would also change that 20lb braid to 30lb-40lb braid on that reel but that’s just me. Edit: I would also put some cheap mono backing on that CT reel if you are using braid.
  19. Are you talking 1/2 oz jig total or 1/2 oz jig + trailer? Put on a 1/2-3/4 lipless and test that out. What made you go with 20lb braid for your MH rod?
  20. I always use backing for 2 reasons. So the braid doesn’t slip and also to save money on braid. How much braid do you have? If I have a spool of 300 yds, that will get me 100 yds on 3 different spinning reels. I just calculate how much backing is needed for each reel. If I have a spool of 150 yds, that will get me 75 yds on 2 spinning reels.
  21. Tatula 100. Paid $113 for each of mine but can be purchased for $130ish.
  22. Pre California Covid shutdown/restrictions I would get my order in under 24 hours if my ordered was placed before 12:30pm Pacific Time. There was 1 week couple months ago, where I got my order in less than a day. But my following order was back to taking around 2 weeks again. It could be worse...I have friends in Hawaii that have to pay $25+ shipping every time they place and order even if it’s over $50.
  23. For the 3” and 3.8” I been using the ALX Toadface which is a 7’2” MH+. For the 2.4” 3/8oz I been using the ALX Maestro which is a 7’ ML+. Braid to leader for both.
  24. I been sharpening all my hooks recently and with the sleepers, I sharpen them out of the package. It’s a quick touch up to bring it to sticky sharpness.
