  1. I'd like to install a kill switch for the trolling motor on my kayak, in case I fell out while it was running. The simpler, the better. The motor is a Minn Kota 40 lb. Endura Max, with a Group 24 battery. Thanks.
  2. For fishing, a SOT is the way to go. Generally, the stability increases the wider it is.
  3. I ordered the motor today, and will have it Monday. The MK variable speed(Endura Max) 40 lb. thrust. I'm normally out fishing 4-5 hours max. I'm thinking of a group 24 battery, but would like to go with a lighter weight battery, if possible. I do want to get a sealed battery also. Any suggestions on battery, and where I can get a good deal? Thanks.
  4. Thanks Wayne. So a 40 amp hour battery would only give me about 1 hour run time on high?
  5. I'm looking into buying a 40 lb. thrust Endura Max motor, and I'm trying to choose a battery. It's for my kayak(Frontier 12') so I'd like to keep the weight down if possible. My first choice is a sealed battery. I'd also like a battery smaller than a Group 24. I'm normally not out longer than 4 hours. What do you guys suggest? Thanks.
  6. My wife says the same thing !!
  7. Thanks guys. Great info. I just hope the 36" shaft won't bee too tall for my kayak.
  8. Someone out there must own an Endura Max.
  9. I'm thinking of getting an Endura Max 40 lb. model for my kayak(Frontier 12'). Have the Endura Max trolling motors been reliable? Are there any negatives to them? Thanks.
  10. Thanks. Any idea who has the best prices on the AGM batteries?
  11. Thanks guys. How does amp hours relate to how long your trolling motor will run? Lets assume I have a Minn Kota Endura Max(variable speed) 40 lb. thrust model. MK claims it lasts 3-5 times longer than a standard trolling motor.
  12. Does anyone know the next smaller size to the Group 24? Thanks.
  13. Thanks guys. Where are these smaller batteries sold? What is the next size smaller than the Group 24? If I do this, I'll probably buy the Minn Kota 40 lb. thrust, with the variable speed(Endura Max).
  14. Is Group 24 the smallest deep cycle battery out there? I'm thinking of buying a trolling motor for my kayak, and want to keep the weight down. Thanks.
  15. There's quite a range in kayak prices. You can spend anywhere from $200 to $2,000. You should start a new thread. Check out the Perception Sport Striker at Dick's. It's a good starter kayak.
  16. You can troll if you paddle fast enough. The best type of kayak for fishing is a sit-on-top kayak. What is your budget? What is your height and weight?
  17. With 2 people, a 14 footer would be fine. And it will save you some money also.
  18. I would never fish 3 people in a 14 footer. I don't even like fishing with 3 in a 16 footer.
  19. What's the problem with rivets? My Landau jon boat is a 1976, and I've never had a problem with any of the rivets.
  20. To get an idea of new prices, check out the Tracker boats at Basspro.com. I recommend you buy a used one, if possible. They don't come up for sale very often though. At least by me they don't. If you see one on Craigslist, you have to act fast. For 3 men to fish from, you need at least a 16 footer.
  21. I use a 5 lb. barbell plate from Walmart. Cheap and works great.
  22. The biggest obstacle you will have is mounting them in the right spot on the kayak, so they are not in the way when paddling. But I'm sure you thought of that.
