  1. Good morning all I have 5 main bass rods. I know im overthinking this but would love some clarification on what lures to use with what rod and reel combo. I DO have an extra Lews Super Duty in 6:5:1 should it be recommended to switch out with 1 of the other baitcasters I listed below. I gravitate mostly to Ned, Texas, weighted and weightless worms and flukes but want to explore new areas of bass fishing. I do run fluoro leaders at times. Any help yall can provide me with would be great. All rods are 7' Falcon H/MF paired with a Lews speed spool in 7:5:1, 15lb braid (Baitcaster) Falcon M/MF paired with an Lews TLC2000 6:2:1, 10lb braid (Spinning) MHX MH/F paired with a lews 5:4:1, 15lb braid (Baitcaster) MHX M/F paired with a Shimano Sahara 6:2:1, 15 lb braid (Spinning)
  2. Went for a test fit today and ad some issues as the fire extinguisher is riveted in to to where I was going to put the rack so i had to take a rear section out and then added 3 to the front. Now there should be no issues with fit. I will get this mounted ASAP and snap pics.
  3. I still have to sand, prime and paint it but overall I think it came out well. I even flanged/flared the PVC myself using a heat gun and a liquor bottle. It is relatively heavy and once mounted I think it will be a great addition to my new boat.
  4. Thanks everyone for the advice, this spring, summer and fall is going to be EPIC.
  5. It is a 1998 Grumman 1467P. My buddy and I took her out, I am still nervous though. Hopefully that will subside soon enough the more I get on the water. We fished a lil bit from it as I was trying to get used to everything. Backing up was so hard so any tips when backing up with a trailer would be great. This is going to be my bass and catfishin boat and I can't wait to REALLY get to know everything about this boat. Can anyone tell if I would be able to mount rod holders to the trim/lining (not sure what the actual name is) of this boat. It appears to be squared, I can get better pics tomorrow. As of right now adding fishing rod holders is the only upgrade I would like to do immediately.
  6. I fish Lake Wylie often and I have not has so much as even a nibble in the last month and I fish both the lake and the Catawba river. I pretty much gave up until the water hits 50/55 degrees consistently. Are you from the area?
  7. It's not so much that I was looking at it from a "cost" standpoint but more or less cost and making exactly what I want. I know I can buy spinnerbaits from local stores but I am stuck with their color combo as opposed to color combos I make on my own or finding premade skirts with color combos that appeal to me. I actually just ordered some jig heads and different skirts (premade) but now I can tweak the color combos to what I am looking for while still paying around the same. I may still try doing spinnerbaits also but will wait a little bit.
  8. But none of the websites give sizes to blades, clevises, beads etc. They give #2,#3,#4 and I have no idea what any of that means as there are no size-# reference charts. Do any of you guys make your own spinners? I am REALLY liking those Tarantula all in one spinner skirts but I cannot figure out the hardware aspect. I see some blades have designs, have holographic images so on and so forth. How do I know what I would need and if I am coming out the same as just buying them flat out is it even worth doing in the first place?
  9. While I cannot say it is the best I LOVE my Sufix 832 and will be putting it on my new setup.
  10. Thank you for all the replies, 45 yds is good.
  11. Thanks for all the info, I hop I can get proficient at casting longer distances along with stealthy. This cold weather has to quit.
  12. I see a lot of people saying that they can cast their baitcaster a "country mile" and I am just curious as to what that means to them and what would be a good target distance for casting might be?I believe on average I can cast my baitcaster MAYBE 35-40 yards, sometimes 45-50 with the wind but I am very new to baitcasting, is that a good casting distance? What distance does a proficient bass fisherman strive for?
  13. I am considering trying to add a 3-4" extension to the butt of my rod as it feels real weird when I cast and don;t feel like I am getting the oomph behind my casts.
  14. This is my very first baitcaster that I own, it is the AG Revo SX and I bought it because of the reviews and because it matches the red on my AG Conolon rod but I am wondering if I made the right choice. The reel is very smooth and great looking but a little faster retrieve than what I am used to. I primarily use Topwater frogs, spinners, cranks and bass jigs. I can cast the Revo very well and very rarely get a backlash once set right but I am wondering if I can cast the Lew's further and better all around. These are the only 2 reel's I am considering but the Lew's TS1H could possibly end up in the lineup should I decide to switch out my Revo SX. Walmart has the Lew's TS1SMG for $114 and I get a 10% discount for working there. Any input would be great
  15. After careful consideration I went with the AG Revo SX, It compliments my rod nicely and I like the feel. Since I am new to baitcasting should I start with Mono line for practice or jut go straight for braid (I plan on using 30# braid with a 15# mono or fluoro leader) If using mono what is a good test, 12-15#?
  16. I was in need of a new bass setup so I went to Walmart today and found this rod on clearance ($30) brand new that another customer was looking quite hard at, when he put it down and grabbed a newer Abu I picked it up and went to the counter. I was wondering if this would make a good bass rod? It is 6'6" in medium heavy. I would like to pair it up with an AG Revo SX utilizing 20# braid.
  17. I was catching bass like crazy a week ago and now nothing in 3 different spots for 3 days now, not even bites. I am so new to bass fishing that I dont know the seasonal habits yet and if the temps and long winter have had something to do with it or not. I have been fishing earlier by 730/8 am and usually leaving by 2pm frustrated with not even bream biting. I have been using spinnerbaits with and without trailers, different colors but to no avail. I fish Lake Wylie in SC and if someone could maybe chime in and throw some knowledge for me to soak up i will gladly listen.
  18. Hello everyone I am a new member here and I am neither new to hunting or fishing. I was born in NY and used to do a lot of pier fishing and blue claw crabbing when I lived there. I moved from NY and moved down south in 97 where I have remained here ever since. I am a Father of 4 with another future sportsman on the way. I have never been much of a "fisherman" per say but have found myself quite bored when hunting season is not in effect. I recently discovered the intensity of bass fishin when I caught my very first bass last Wednesday and my son caught his very first bass the day before, needless to say we became addicted REEL FAST. I will add a few pics when I am done writing my intro. I hope that I will be a positive influence on this forum as I am on quite a few forums and my screen name (southernfryedyankee) precedes itself. I am mostly on firearm and knife forums and am slowly entering the realm of fishing forums. I look forward to learning and teaching all that I can from the other members here and hope that this forum will be just as full of knowledgeable and respectful members as all of the other forums I am on.
