  1. I'm a braid guy also, I use 20# braid and a 6# leader. The reason I use the 20# is its the same diameter as the 6# mono that I use as as leader and it makes tying the two together much easier. Also if you get hung by the hook you'll only break off a leader instead of a bunch of line. There is no twist involved when using braid and sensitivity goes way up with the braid. I don't use swivels at all and I use a normal dropshot hook, I tried the spinshots and I found that they're more of a pain then they're worth and as with swivels I feel it takes away from the sensitivity.
  2. Sure was, but that particular 110 has caught 100s of fish and it looks like it. As I was tying it on my brother who was with me said, with all the pretty jerkbaits you have you had to pick the one that looks it was drug down the street. My reply was there's a reason that bait looks that way. If I ever lose it or it breaks I will truly be saddened, but it's given me a lot of good memories.
  3. Liberty Reservoir was hopping yesterday, I caught this big girl along with about seven or more which isn't bad for the four hours I fished. She went 6.47 and she was 23" long by 17.25 girth.
  4. 54.8 degrees water was kinda stained, it was caught in a reservoir that is generally super clear but with all the rains lately it's been a little stained. Liberty Reservoir
  5. Went out today even though it was rainy and chilly this morning, but turned out to be an awesome day. Started out with a vision 110 and finished with the same vision 110, never even touched another rod. I caught 8 today with a 6.47# LM and a 3.89 smallie being the best two.
  6. I think I'd down size that setup some and you'd see remarkable differences.I use it a ton in the summer, and really if you find the right spots it usually don't take too long to get bit. When I'm dropshotting it's generally when the waters real warm and the fish are deeper. I roll up on the back edge of the grass on grassy points, the fish will sit in the edge of the grass watching for an easy meal to swim by. I will just flip the bait right up to the edge and if fish are there a lot of times the sinker won't even hit bottom before the line goes off to the side.
  7. What setup are you using? I've found that using the right rod is a night and day difference. When I first started dropshotting I just used a 7' Med 2 piece rod with a 3000 size reel, and I did ok. Once I went and bought a dedicated dropshot setup, I realized I was missing a ton of bites. I now use a St Croix Mojo (2016 model) 6'8" MLXF with a 2500 size shimano sahara, so I have about $180 in the whole setup.
  8. Love spinnerbaits and since I pretty much fish super clear reservoirs I always make long casts which are targeted casts. I pretty much throw a 1/2oz war eagle in mouse color with one gold one silver dimpled willows 95% of the time. It's a killer combo in clear water.
  9. It totally depends on the type of Koi it is, some can be worth thousands and some you'd have to give away. But as Basser said be careful because you could be looking at some hefty fines by transferring it from one location to the next as its most likely an invasive species. Here in MD those fines could be in the neighborhood of $25,000.
  10. I climb ladders and walk aluminum walk boards for a living but there ain't no way I'm walking on them in the rain. I'd rather forget about that part of the job that day in lieu of falling and becoming a vegetable or worse being killed. Sorry Logan I wasn't trying to imply that you have a death wish. You just stated that you understand why they would do it, as where I don't really ünderstand where putting your life at risk for a few bucks is acceptable. The river they were in had a lot of safer areas that could've been fished that day. Street outlaws may say that but have you ever seen them run in the rain or on a road that was dust covered. If the road ain't pretty much perfect they're not going up it. Some risks just arent worth taking.
  11. So a few bucks and winning a tourney is worth your and your coanglers kids growing up without a father. I can't say that I understand that reasoning at all. You say he made the top 12 in that tourney, so what did that pay and was in even enough to repair the boat. This is the same reasoning that has pro athletes doing steroids, whatever it takes to win to hell with the consequences..
  12. Yea I don't think I'd want to be the coangler in his boat that's for sure. It must be nice to be handed a boat so you can just treat it like that, makes a poor boy like me cringe..
  13. This pic is from a guy I know that bowfishes, and he does this 4 nights a week. He's been doing it for the past five years. As said earlier the bow guys are tearing them up. And some more:
  14. I've fished Mallows bay on a couple different occasions and I've seen LM bass floating dead with arrow holes in them. IMHO they need to do something about the bow fishers. I was doing work for homeowner that lives right on the Potomac and they would like to see it outlawed because of the noisy generators the guys are running, and the bright lights shining in their windows in the middle of the night.
  15. I own both Maui Jims and Costas, and both are great glasses. Ive owned 4 different pairs of Maui's and from my experience they always seem to fit looser then the Costas. But honestly I prefer the Costas for fishing as I feel the 580g lens is better then the Maui Jims. IMO you can't go wrong with either one.
  16. IMHO they should all go to this format.
  17. I appreciate your willingness to make it right, and I'll follow through and get pics emailed.
  18. So from what your saying this would be normal for your baits, this has caught 0 fish and was only fished for a half a day, and this what the blade looks like. Here's another pic of how one came apart while being removed from the package, it's never seen water.
  19. Do yourself a favor and check out Siebert Outdoors here on the site, and take a look at his Fogy. All the Zman ones Ive bought through out the past couple years have been junk, the blades are thin and bend all up and that's if they don't fall off first. And if none of that happens most likely when you get it back to the boat the skirt will most likely be hanging half way off as well. It's hard to believe that a company as big a Zman would put junk out on store shelves..
  20. What your quoting isn't a law, it's what they'd prefer for you to do if you catch one. The same thing applies to the blue catfish in the potomac, but you have guides that are taking groups of people out and encouraging them to put them back. I'm not trying to say I think it's right by no means, but it's happening.
  21. They are invasive and Maryland DNR would prefer that you kill them, but there is no law stating that your required to do so. It is against the law to transport or transfer live snakeheads and carries a $25,000 fine if your caught doing so. I only catch a handfull a year and keep most of them to eat because they're awesome on the grill or fried. If I catch them in waters that I wouldn't eat fish out of it's getting released, I'm not killing just for the sake of doing so.
  22. One more for the Shaw G knot, it's never failed me yet...
  23. Tuckahoe, Blackwater, Potomac all the way to great falls, Depot Pond. They're all over now, I have a buddy who caught 4 from the Choptank bridge on Rt 50 on the cambridge side of the fishing bridge. They are very tasty, but honestly if I'm not taking it home to eat it I release it.
  24. Check these guys out:. http://www.gunbed.net/shop-gun-beds/ I built my own, but I do have a shop full of woodworking tools.
