  1. I am looking for a cheap rod to pitch 1/4oz t-rigs and 3/8oz jigs with probably 40lb braid. I already have a 6'8 crucial mh fast that I use strictly for 1/4oz t-rigs with 12lb cxx and a 7'2 crucial mh xfast with 17lb cxx and 3/8ths to 1/2oz jigs. I love both of the rods, but I feel like there are several times were I would like to be tossing the same baits but with braid. So I was looking for cheap rod and was leaning towards the falcon bucoo 6'10 heavy head turner since it is listed with a med-fast action and 1/4-3/4 rating, which seems like a good setup for what I am wanting. Anybody have any suggestions or opinions that would be appreciated.
  2. I would say over 150 for myself, and so far this year is starting out great, I have beat my previous PB of 5.5lbs four times already with a 6, 6.25, 6.5, and 7.25lber.
  3. I have a 1999 merc 9.9 2 stroke that was running fine last year, a while back when we ran it for the first time since winter we noticed that when running mid-full throttle the water stream goes at full pressure like normal then suddenly acts like it loses pressure and stops spraying for several seconds and then starts back up for a few seconds as the process repeats. Also at idle the water just dribbles out. We put a new impeller and water pump kit in it and the problem is still there. Any ideas what could be causing it?
  4. Ok thanks for the other options, what action would you consider ideal for punching? I see rods labeled mod-fast through extra fast Also how about duckett rods? I see they usually have good reviews, but I have always shyed away just from the fact that there are no actions or ratings listed that I can find. Anybody have experience with the micro magic 7'6 XH?
  5. I am wanting to get a rod that can handle some 1.5oz tungsten for some punching, so I would like it to be fairly sensitive, but it would also really be handy if it could throw some A-rigs, and frogs would also be nice since ill already be running 65lb braid, but I read most people don't recommend a 7'6" punching rod for frogs. I would like to keep the rod 7'6" or shorter and the absolute max I could spend would be $180. I was thinking originally a savvy 766 would fit the bill but I read some people complain about the savvys lack sensitivity. Also I seen that the Kistler carbon steel has a 7'6" rod rated to 2oz with a mod-fast action and for around $100 would be nice, but I wasn't sure how the sensitivity and balance would compare to the savvy. I have a buddy who has a Phenix recon 7'6" rated up to 2.5oz which would be nice but is really pushing the price limit and I don't know how it compares. So if anybody has any advice that would be great, I am also open to other options. A good warranty would also be nice.
  6. I usually have good luck starting off with something like a texas rigged worm/lizard and getting a feel for the water, and then fine tuning your lure selection from there.
  7. Okay I remember watching that video a while back and I will have to check it out again, and no I usually don't ever have any problem with serious backlashes, although I have had my fair share of backlashes messing up my line in the past, haha
  8. Ok thats what I figured was the culprit, but it is so easy to just pop a toothpick in there and break it off to peg the weight, I guess I hoped that it was something else. haha
  9. Me and my dad went out to a local lake today to try to catch a few bass. I fish this lake 3 or so times a week and have been doing pretty good lately. Second cast of the day, almost sure I would catch one, feel a bite, set the hook, fish on! It was a pretty nice bass to start off the day, we figured around 4lbs, I get it coming to the boat and it made a quick dive under the boat which is usually no problem, I put just a little pressure to get him turned around and "pop". Broke off, looks to be the knot broke. It was no where near enough pressure that I would think would break 4lb test let alone 12. We did pretty poor the rest of the day, infact I had not even caught a fish, and right before we load the boat we threw a couple last casts, I get a bite, I know for a fact that is was a bass as no brush was close. I set the hook, could tell it was a nice one, and just as soon as some pressure built up my line snapped again. I about jumped out of the boat! I was so dissapointed as I was sure it was another nice one. This time it appeared that the line broke no where near the knot, and the rest of the line did not show any sign of fraying. I was using 12lb camo green yozuri hybrid, with a 1/4oz strike king tungsten, texas rigged, and pegged with a toothpick. I tie a palomar knot and wet it down to make sure it is cinched down correctly. I had a similar problem with seaguar red label 12lb flouro, so I switched to yozuri after reading some good reviews and figured I would not have any trouble. What do you guys think is the problem?
  10. My biggest two are 5.2 and 5.3, and both were caught on rat-l-traps in the hottest days of summer.
  11. Haha alright guys thanks for tips. Atleast every other time we go out I take home a good mess of fish and either add some to my pond or have a big fish fry. Last year I had probably taken out close to 300 dinks from a couple pits. I will keep after them
  12. Well I am from southern Illinois and fish mostly these strip pits which are a few miles from my house. There are close to 25 pits and most are fishable by boat, they are almost all very clear with little to no visible brush around the bank, with very steep drop off banks. I have been fishing these pits for the last year and have just about fished everyone one accesible by boat. The problem is that almost everytime we can go out and catch 30 bass less than a pound in a few hours but that is it, all the same size. Occasionally we will pull out a decent one, as my dad caught a 5lber one day and I hear stories from alot of people who have fished there that have caught bass in excess of 5lb. Generally we fish t-rig worms/lizards or jigs around weed edges and the banks, as these pits as it gets closer to summer will start to have the shore near the bank covered to the surface with these thick weeds. I have also had good success with wacky rigged senkos and we usually catch alot of lipless cranks. On the majority of the pits we have caught atleast 1 bass 2lb plus, with the exception of one pit that is shallower than most of the others and one day me and my dad using t-rigged worms caught 10 bass 2-4lb without any small ones. The other day though me and my buddy fished the exact same pit, caught 1 2.5lber and close to 30 dinks less than a lb. I feel like I am going on and on, but I am trying to get the point that I know that almost all of these pits have some good bass, but I need your advice on what to do specifically to target those larger bass. I figured a larger jig might up my odds, but I ended up catching around 15 dinks on it without a single decent bass out of a pit that is very clear with some thorn bushes that are in 3-6 ft of water, and one day a couple weeds ago while trolling to a very small cannal at the end of the pit that gets very shallow I looked down to see 4-5 bass that appeared 3lb plus in a very tight group in water around a foot deep. So I have seen some decent fish in there. I have my first fish finder coming in tomorow, so hopefully that will help me locate some deep structure, but other than that what kind of techniques should I try? I have tried alot of different things this past year, but nothing that has produced consistently bigger fish. Thanks
  13. Hello, My names Josh, I live in southern Illinois and enjoy bass fishing along with hunting and many other outdoor activities. I am transfering to SIUC next semester as a Geology major and plan on joining the fishing team.
