  1. I love my pfleuger president 6925 as well.
  2. Properly fileting a fish is a lost art. I would advise teaching someone else to help with the work. My buddy and I split up the catch and makes it easier. I have seen the electric knives and you just waste more meat, just my two cents.
  3. congrats on your new PB!
  4. It is helpful to get a little pick like tool to get some of the knots out. Basically what happens during a backlash is that the spool keeps spinning and you get all these big loops, sometimes the loops fold over one another as you are pulling the line out and stops your line dead in it's tracks. If you back track a little you can see which loop is caught, and pick that one out. I have never had to cut my line to get a backlash out, it just takes a little bit of patience and practice. The pick tool I use is a heavy duty paper clip bent out with a small bend at the end. Or you can spend the five bucks at bps and get their pick tool. And one more thing, don't use your time on the water to practice casting your baitcaster. I got funny looks from people at the park, but I was wasting less time when I was fishing. Good luck.
  5. I have 2 PQ's, I have mine set up with 0 centrifugal brakes and vary the magnetic brake depending on what I am throwing.
  6. Nice cart, I am not sure of the areas you fish, but where I fish sometimes the terrain is kind of rough and I would imagine it pretty difficult to drag a cart with you. The banks are usually covered in high brush/reeds and unlevel. Maybe a large backpack would serve you better? You would still have to hold 3 rods, but the backpack would probably easily hold all of your boxes/plastics.
  7. Tyson1, you can cast it, just make sure you adjust the spool tension every time you change a lure. The difference in weight of each lure will change how far you can cast and how often you backlash. Keep practice on it and get that thumb educated! Good luck.
  8. Great find, I would throw anything you want on there. Just as felix77 mentioned, keep it kind of light. It's a great rod and reel to learn how to throw a baitcaster on. Hopefully you'll get bit in the process. Good luck and have fun! One of the best things I did was follow Glenn's videos on youtube. His flippin and pitchin video helped train my thumb and his how to cast a baitcaster video was pretty good too. ACtually all of his videos. Anyways, if you are already comfortable with a baitcaster then never mind me and carry on.
  9. I have been looking at quick knots to tie as well and I've started using the pitzen knot and improved clinch. I guess it depends on which lure you're tying on to, maybe it's me but I had difficulty tying a palomar with bigger lures like spinner baits, crank baits and jigs with trailers. Pitzen knot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jzgnf236QDE Improved Clinch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DuHE6SRVT_E The uni knot looks pretty easy too, I might have to try that one out.
  10. I am pretty new to bass fishing and I have never fished anything remotely close to a tournament and my question is what is the purpose of the co-angler? Is he/she typically a friend of yours or do they match you up with someone random? Is the co-angler supposed to help you out? I don't mean to hijack your thread Felix but I am not sure what the co-angler/guy on the back of the boat is to be doing. Thanks!
  11. +1 to the BPS pro-qualifier. I was contemplating the lews speed spool or the bps pro qualifier, but I found the bps pq used for pretty cheap. I couldn't pass it up.
  12. I think depending on how big the water you are going to be fishing will impact on how the temperature changes the water. I'm going to be out later on today as well and would like to know if anyone has any input. I'm going to be throwing a variety of baits (flukes, senkos, buzz baits, jigs and spinner baits) and hopefully I get a fish on sooner than later...
  13. stick of dynamite? LoL, I don't think it would hurt to try fishing the gofl course pond, how long has it been there?
  14. Thanks for the input guys, I've found this solution: https://www.rodmounts.com/rod-up-for-suvs/ but it is pretty pricey at 129.99. I drive a Honda CRV, and there is space overhead, I might look into doing something like this: http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/46798-SUV-Home-Made-Rod-Holder Looks like I have a project this weekend.
  15. Hey guys, I have been curious to know how you guys transport your rod's in your car/suv. I've seen things like rod buckle or rodmounts.com, but I was wondering if there was a DIY solution people were using and were happy with? thanks in advance.
  16. I've downsized and started using a tackle bag rather than the usual tackle box. I like it better, however I think moving to a back pack style tackle box will work better and you can bring much more stuff.
  17. I started with a spinning reel and going to a lefty baitcaster was natural for me. Over time though I like the control the baitcsaster gives you, I just wish I was better at casting lighter lures with it. The lighter lures are the only reason I keep my spinning reel set up.
  18. Yeah backlashes are the worst, especially when you've got your lure out there. I'm so nervous to get a bite when i'm untangling a birdsnest, though it probably makes me fish my stickbait way slower than I normally would. One thing I've done is straighten out a paperclip and put a little bend on it to pick out the birdsnest.
  19. If I get skunked, I don't get mad, I chaulk it up to learning. And the other posters were right, it's called fishing and not catching.
  20. I picked up a BPS pro Qualifier and got that deal from Walmart a while back for the Abu Garcia Vendetta gen 1 for 30$. The BPS PQ is pretty nice, took a little time dialing in the dual brake system, but pretty good reel. The Vendetta is a 7ft medium and pretty stiff tip, way stiffer than my MH Bill Dance bait caster combo rod/reel. I also agree on the left handed reel, switching hands feels awkward.
  21. I've used number thee (I think) split rings and I used the old lead bell weights I had laying around. Works pretty well and way cheaper than buying pre-rigged.
