  1. As long as I knew the guy would not try and kill me or something I would put the blind fold on myself
  2. I belie it is a comfort thing, that being said you are also going to want to have a way that works, here is what I do I cover the entire spool with my thumb, but only lightly place the bottom of my thumb on the spool, the tip of my thumb acts as a guide to any loose line that comes flying out the front
  3. I would throw a swim jig or a spinner bait near the staging areas, the bass are trying to pig out before they go and spwan
  4. No problem, I myself use the Navionics Web App a ton, it is a huge help
  5. My friend and I just won the Wisconsin State Student Angler Federation Bass tournament on the Mississippi..... this qualified us for the Central Conference Regional this September in Huron, Ohio, I have never fished there, and will not be able to until two days before..... But I know the small mouth dominate there..... Anyone have any ideas on how we should catch em' and what should we use to do so, even though we can not pre-fish until September we would like to practice up on those techniques and maybe find some similar situation as we would be fishing during the tourney
  6. I have not fished much clear water but I would maybe try a camo braid or floro carbon
  7. Up here on the Mississippi we have recently had this problem too, I have two suggestions, they are going to seem contradictive but they both should be able to help..... Before I fished a tournament this past weekend on the ol' Miss for State a local bait shop guy told me that fish are going to still be in the same areas they were before, because that is where all their food is..... yet if there food moves that is when they will move, I always like to find some flooded tress and grass, bass will come up in these areas to feed of night crawlers. On a side note if there is a strong current like the Mississippi has now then you are going to want to get of current!!!!!
  8. I was practicing flipping and pitching tonight in my lawn to a area I made look like brush, I love to just practice, so when I get out there I am better equipped and ready to go
  9. I am new to off-shore fishing, but what are some great Baits/Techniques that I should start with, and where and how to fish them
  10. I have a view questions about off-shore fishing, I am a bank beater but when the weather changes the get hard to catch on shore. I was wonder when this happens should I move to off-shore and what should I throw. My second question is there certain weather that makes off-shore your go to choise
  11. Thank you for the help, How do you think I should fish these areas, what should I use?
  12. Here is the other area that I think might hold fish if it helps this was a river dammed and these are the areas that swelled way out of the river channel, and can I really trust that this is gravel where it says it is because most of the lake is muck I feel like even if it was at one time the gravel would be covered by muck right?
  13. I apologies I do not know how to make the picture bigger on the post so to see it you will have to click on it, sorry and thanks for the help
  14. I have always been a power fisherman on the shoreline but I would like to get offshore fishing because I feel that is were some big ones are held..... are lake is relatively small 415 acres, only two sections about 50 acres that can physically hold offshore bass, but I feel like there are no bass there..... so in this picture does it look like it holds bass, and if so where (relatively) and how should I fish it..... thank you for all the help I know this is a hard question
  15. I would say that Navionics would be your best bet, or Fishidy.com then screen shoot it on your computer to print off and take with you these are the best two out there for free
  16. I know how you feel their are people that come on my home lake fish with worms and keep EVERYTHING in bucket then just go home with it, our lake is small so game wardens are rarely out there, I have never said anything in the past but I know in the future I will and I will take pictures, it is not only morally wrong to keep past what you need to eat but it is also ILLEGAL to keep small fish and over your limit..... God gave us these fish we cannot just take, take, take, we must give back as well.....
  17. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone one this site, I have self taught myself to bass fish as my dad is a Muskie guy..... This past summer I would go out and fish a technique all week everyday, it was awful when I first tried jigs..... I HATED THEM but I read tons of articles on jig fishing and they are good but this site was great because I could just ask and pin-point certain questions and get direct helpful..... One of my best friends and I won the Wisconsin Student Angler Federation High School Bass Tournament this past weekend..... we won it on a lethal weapon swim jig..... which I would never know how to use without this site, I thank you guys with all my heart as this was my first bass tournament win, and as a tear rolled down my eye it reassured my dream of being a pro-bass angler..... and I know it will not be easy, but if this tournament taught me anything; no matter how bad it gets (not one bite till 9:05) just put your head down work hard, trust your instincts and above all trust GOD!!!!! PRVB 3;5
  18. Glad to hear everything is better for you buddy, GOD works in mysteries ways. I would say fishing was a contorting factor to turning my life around and in the end saving me..... GOD BLESS
  19. Does anybody know how the qualification system goes for Major League Fishing? I have looked everywhere and can not see it..... so if anybody could help I would love it!!!!!
  20. Not to start a fight and I mean this in all respect but.....Ray Scott is still alive and very much well, B.A.S.S has actually gone up in recent years, FLW pros are leaving for them actually..... the reason you see Elite guys I other circuits has nothing to do with dissapotiment for B.A.S.S but instead they want the experience in the extremely tough tournament age we are in. Plus that is their JOB THEY JUST WANT MORE MONEY..... And the MFL is more a show than a league..... by the way does anyone know how to qualify for that?
  21. I love to fish with other who share my passion..... yet when I am by myself I focus in on the little things more and then I learn more about myself..... I love to fish with people who know more than I do and can help teach me
  22. I would change the color or color in a bright Chartreuse color circle on the middle of the bait, or use a Berkley Power Bait Nuggets and put em' on hook..... the bass will key in on these areas and it will usually generate a strike
  23. First thing to ask yourself is "Are there fish there?" and if the answer is yes then you will definitely want to fish it..... I would use a T-Rigged 1/8th to no weight creature bait
  24. Yes you are exactly right, this comes with the territory of bass fishing, I will always use a pliers and hold the mouth open (they are not called largemouth for nothing) so reach the plires down and punch the hook down, then pull it our slowly careful not to jam it in another area..... be careful and slow, bass can last quite a long time out of the water, now that does not mean turn this into a twenty minute operation, but it is better to take a little longer than to just rip the hook out, the bass will for sure die that way..... just stay calm and relax yourself and the bass
  25. I use to be big into froggin' then I stopped to try and widen my horizon, but my best bet for you would be to use those soft body frogs on a 3/0 hook, if they are just hammering and you are missing quite a bite, I would then upgrade to a 4/0 hook, bigger and you will hook more. I always fish them weightless, this will allow you to bring em' on the top of the water. Which is by far your best bet to catch bass. I always go with natural colors to the lake I am fishing. For instance I stay away from white frogs because all the water I fish I have never seen them. One key side not here though is that when you do find a naturally color frog that catches bass, try and find the same color except with a small hint of chartreuse on the bottom, bass love it, especially when they are picky..... hope this helped, tight line bud
