  1. The line thru a floater or slow sink?
  2. I don't fish the holographic print baits, mainly stick to the Hudds and Savage Gear line thru's with the few 6" Rago BVD's. Glide baits, the S Weaver is probably the most inexpensive bait or Savage Gear's glide bait. Hard Gills are hard to find but have no experience with them. As far as fishing these "bigger" baits, one tip, get yourself a rod and reel dedicated to fishing the bigger baits and when you go take nothing else with you. Fish only the swimbait. You have to throw it to be successful with it. It can be frustrating at times, but it can also be really good. Don't give yourself the option to stop fishing it when you start by bringing another set-up with you.
  3. Ceramic, zirconia inserts will give you no problems.
  4. What do you consider swimbaits?
  5. So 1 rod and 1 reel with 5 baits and a body of water.....okay Reel: Lexa 300 Rod: IROD Genesis II 8' swimbait rod. #1 Deps 250 #2 8" Huddleston ROF 12 #3 8" Savage Gear Line Thu Floater #4 10" Triple Trout #5 68 Special Huddleston Diamond Valley, CA
  6. I use the deep 3600 size boxes for my hudds and triple trout's....up to 10" baits....Don't fish the shell cracker's but I know guys that fish the bigger baits use different containers or the open 3600 or 3700 size boxes. Think the biggest thing I have to store is a 10" dead twitch.
  7. Was the tip plastic ringed?
  8. Well yes, you don't want to wrap ANY braided line around your fingers or hands......IT WILL leave nasty cuts. But as for guides nope......Fingers....yep.
  9. Myth, been using braid on ALL my rods for the last 4yrs, longer in saltwater. There isn't a bit of a groove in any of my rods.......quality braid you will not have any issues. Stick with Power Pro or 832. Look at frogs that walk easy. Spro Bronzeye Shad and Snag Proof's Ish's Phat Frog walk very well without any kind of bait alterations.
  10. I've seen video's of using planes in the High Sierra's here in CA. Seen them use the truck and dump them in, also seen them dipnet the trout (to me a lot worse then dropping them out of a plane since the ones at the bottom are crushed by the weight of their buddies. Might have a higher survival rate though in some of the places I fish if they did drop them from a plane......the bass and stripers learn the schedule of stocking and wear (think they have a private number to the dfg or buddies on the inside) because the minute those fish hit the water, well lets say it looks like an aquarium at feeding time. Dumped over deeper water by plane would offer them more chances to adjust without being subject to predation as easily since they wouldn't be pinned to the bank and have room to move and escape. Just my thoughts. But if concerned, maybe we should get them little parachutes.....j/k
  11. I'd say M/ ML. My dropshot rod has 10lb braid and I adjust the leader as needed. Normally 8lb but will drop to 4 or 6lb if needed and yes in a tournament as well. If I had to fish light to get bit so be it. I'd rather be getting bites and putting fish in the boat then powerfishing and catching nothing. So if you're fishing a tournament, don't be afaid to drop down to get bit. Got to get a bite before you can put one in the boat.
  12. My swimbait reels are a Shimano Cardiff 300 spooled with 40lb pp with a 25lb topshot (8ft) of CXX. Other is a Lexa 300 with 65lb pp and 25lb FC. Honestly looking to swap the Cardiff 300 for another Lexa 300. Throw my umbrella rigs with a BPS Exteme and 30lb pp with 20lb CXX topshot as well as using a Cabonlite with the same set up and haven't had any issues with the reels handling the rig the way I fish them. But if I was to use a round reel I would stick with the Cardiff 300 or get a 5500 size ABU. But unless you're throwing the bigger 8" swimbaits I haven't had any issues with using my regular sized reels to get the job done.
  13. agree with 20lb braid, always adjust a small topshot of FC weather it be 12-15lb.
  14. Read it on ***.
  15. I carry/use a waste pack I can fit 2 3600boxes in, my worm binder, and a small box of assorted weights and hooks as well as any other odds and ends in the 3 pockets. Great thing about it, I can slip the 1 or 2 rods I'm not fishing between the pack up against my back and they are out of the way. Need to swap, I have my quiver of rods I can reach back and pull one out and slip the other in the seam.
  16. No, even better using surface poppers and seeing a whole color spot of 25-30lb jack crevelles charge your bait and seeing a half dozen brown backed ajs trying to push them out of the way to get a chance at it or try and take it out of the hooked fishes mouth.
  17. Look up under your dash, trace wires. Welcome to boat maint. You should learn EVERY inch of your rig and what does what. Bust Out Another Thousand
  18. May also look into River 2 Sea's Whopper Plopper. They have a couple sizes on TW and both produce really well.
  19. first off are you sure the pumps are bad? Could one of the wires going to the pumps be corroded or broke causing it not to work? Depending on how much trouble shooting you have already done and how long you have to get it fixed before you need it then it might be easier to have someone work on it. But I would check the wiring first to make sure you're getting power back to the pumps before I would look at replacing them.
  20. I fish 30lb braid with 20lb mono topshot. Most probably fish heavier though.
  21. The day my son caught his first bass on his own on a 4" yum dinger rigged up MJ style.
  22. I can tell you what the cost of my piece of mind with my ex was concerning custody issues.....$6000, best money EVER spent in lawyer fees. It's great when they call and yell and you say, "I'm sorry, if you want to discuss this go ahead and call my lawyer". And from a fathers side, we always seem to get the short end of the stick even when we are the ones stepping up to take care of our childern.
  23. Good answer and fish. That's about the size of half the stockers they put in city lakes out here. When the fish figure it out, they wait patiently and the min they hit the water it's feeding time.
  24. Dinks.....those aren't dinks, those are bass candy......can someone say swimbait!!!!
  25. ^^^^^ That's funny right there.
