  1. Exactly, then what am I gonna fill up my rod locker with or all those tackle trays? So with that I will never limit myself to one bait, one rod. I have many therefore I don't ever see that happening. Variety is what makes it so much more fun. But I give eveyone who can actually answer that question huge props, cause I know I can't. It's hard to narrow it down to 3 rods when I go fishing and a handful or two of baits let alone just one rod and one bait.
  2. Those baits will roll if you wind them too fast. So if you're trying to work them at a faster speed then you may need to move to a little heavier weighted hook. They will have a roll to them and rock, but odds are you're winding too fast which is causing them to roll over. You can try and use them with a jighead as well and that may help with the roll.
  3. I would stick to either Rippin Lips advice or Tom's (WRB). Both are the best answers in two different ways of explaining it. Just my opinion though, but that's who's advice I'd follow if I didn't know any better.
  4. I've punched with the Rage Bug, Rage DB Craw, Biffle Bug, Netbait's Paca Craw, different "beaver baits". They all get bit and all work at different times. Find one you like. Also like usin the Z-Manns Punch Craw's. I've been using the same pack of 6 for the last 2 years. They are pretty indistructable and do get bit when they want that kind of bait.
  5. Not on land. A boat is in a liquid enviorment and even if it's calm the boat still moves which could cause the weight to be off. That was the largest spot, but it got beat a week later by a bigger spot at that lake which was weighted and certified I believe.
  6. White or Chartuese/White 3/8oz colorado/Willow leaf combo. Gold willow, silver colorado and carry a #4 extra colorado blade incase I want to change out the willow to give it more thump instead of flash and allow me to slow it down as well.
  7. Well the Triple Trout only set you back somewhere between $75 and $120 depending on the size you want. Now that Deps 250, yeah go ahead and double that, and a Roman, well a lot more.
  8. I'd fish for them fish of a thousand casts if we had them in CA. But we don't so I fish swimbaits for bass instead.
  9. Hey, that's a different guy......lol Swimbait guys are a bread unto their own.
  10. They normally fish less then 300ft. I would set up with 65lb braid, and if you're going to have a set up for the yo-yo iron, then add a 20ft leader/topshot of 40lb mono to it. If you're going to take two set-ups then put 50lb braid on the other and fish 30-40lb leaders for rockfish. Or just stick to 65lb braid. Get yourself a few Salas 6x Jr's (scambled egg, blue and white, all white) when you get down there as well as a couple Salas 6x's (same colors).
  11. Experience, age, and history have all changed my ways of not becoming "that guy". I tend to keep my worms simple, cranks in a handful of colors that cover the needed waters I fish, and although I do have a bunch of tackle, (how else do we find what works best for us other then trial and error) some get used more then others. I still am that guy that colors my braid with a marker about 18" up when flipping, but or other reasons (use it to tell wear from the weight) and have stuck to a few reel and rod brands that work best for me and fish my own way, learn from my own experiences, and try and pass down what I've learned. Funny, took years to understand the phrase "keep it simple stupid". Once you realize and have that moment, it all becomes clear.
  12. Well, um I'm calling bs.
  13. Okay being a fish geek, I really want to know HOW he keeps those peacocks alive during the winter considering they really don't do cold well (anything less then 60). I've seen people try and throw tropicals in the park lakes around S. Cal and they don't make it through our winter, just wondering how they make it through the winters there?
  14. Not knocking your choice, but you may want to move up to the 7" unit. Start running different views that 5" gets really small. And I believe they are.
  15. I use both. My main frog rod is a Micro rod, but then I also have a minima guide rod that I use as well which are a little smaller then standard but don't foul as easy as the micro's when it has a bunch of junk on the water. Some days just prefer to use the ligher micro rod when it's a full day of frog fishing. May not make a huge weight difference, but there is one there.
  16. I don't vap. Quit smoking a long time ago. Only took one nasty sinus infection to realize yeah, not gonna do this anymore. It's easy to see who does it when they drive, just look for the car or truck that looks like it has a fog machine running in there with the big cloud of none harmful vap coming out the windows. To each their own, I'll find something more appealing to do with my time and continue to feed my constant habit of fishing to infuence me. That can be bad enough sometimes.
  17. Rockfish, lings, and possible yellows on the yo-yo iron. What's your question?
  18. I have several Quantum Accurists (older gunmetal color) along with a dozen other Quantum reels. Some people have issues with them, some don't. Some still consider Quantum to be junk since they are related to Zebco and thus not worth fishing. I mayself only fish fish 3 baitcasters now, some BPS reels, Quantum and ***. I will say if you go Quantum, make sure you stay in the "PT" line of reels. The accurist is a bit heavier then some other reels (8.1oz). You may also want to check Ebay and look around, last fall I got some great deals on the EXO line. May run you a little more ($10-40) but the line is sold and light. And if you do, the 6:6.1 in the 100 size is the same IPT as a Accurist 7:0.1. Just saying.
  19. You can always buy straight from Zman as well online if needed. But Zman for sure.
  20. I know they have a lot of action once you dump them out of a pot.....they move pretty quick down around you Catt.......along with those red potatos and corn. Them things fly off the table.
  21. If you go used, that 41K your looking at, I bet they would take 36k. It's a used boat and they want to move it. I bought a used Champion, after all the extras (talon, Lowrance electronics, etc) price was $1400 over the original asking pice (this included tax) they wanted. Don't let them tell you the price, a used boat is only worth as much as you are willing to pay for it. So I wouldn't even entertain their marked price and would offer them 34K and see where they go.
  22. Well when I inspected the boat, didn't like the looks of the silicone that was on there and being in the marine industry, I wanted to fix something that could have become a problem before it did and honestly I was told I was the first person to ever ask to have that done before buying a boat. Go figure. Little things can lead to big problems. I know you want to do it yourself, but you could have it done if you take your motor in for service one a year and just have them do it while it's at the shop. But then that may not be a viable option for you either.
  23. Yep, this is why I paid the dealer when I bought mine $125 extra to pull the motor off and reseal those bolts with a marine adhesive (3M 4200) and get rid of that old sillycone.
  24. Well you now just have a shorter rod. You really only have 2 choices, 1, retip the shorter rod where it's broke or 2, try and warranty it through Dobyns. But as for connecting the two pieces together, I don't think it will work and it will always be a weak point in the rod even if you did fix it it's going to fail again.
  25. It's not a bad idea to buy new if you understand what you're buying. So say you wanted a Z series Ranger, $72,000 with all the goodies, you could buy a 2 year old boat with the same goodies for $35,000. The boat your interested in isn't going to loose that much value. And used boats have one thing new boats don't, a low price. No dealer wants to sit on a used boat. It's in the way, it needs to go. So they are more apt to give you a better deal on the price because they want to move it. A new boat, well it's new. You don't really have the ability to haggle over the price. It is what it is when it comes new to the dealer. And yes you can upgrade....$$$$. If you can get a great deal on it the way you want it and knock that boat out in say a couple years go for it. But most look at boats as an expensive toy. I'm going to put my head down and hopefully have mine paid off in the next 2 years that I bought in December. But it's a used boat and if I needed to unload it, I could unload it with a minimal loss if any. Just do your homework and make sure you have the boat you want for a while and not the one you want right now.
