  1. I like football shaped heads as they don't seem to get hung as easily in rock, though it still isn't hard to do.
  2. A seven foot medium extra fast and medium heavy mod fast can and will serve many purposes. I really like the Kistler Klx mod fast rods, and the Batson Rainshadow extra fast blanks.
  3. Prep strategies before fishing a new reel. Take the spool out or off and whisper to it. Lick the spool bearings. Rub the handle against your bare bottom. Stick the reel down your pants and dance to the Bill Dance theme song. This should make performance top notch and bring the best of luck. No, but seriously. Just fish it. It will tell you if the spool bearings should be flushed and lubed. Fish it for a season or two and have it fully serviced.
  4. So are you asking about line for your casting or spinning reel? Either way I would not recommend Invizx if sensitivity is your primary concern. It has more stretch than any line I've used. It does handle very well on a spinning reel, but not 20 lb test
  5. Braid, Sufix. Mono, Sunline. Fluoro, Seaguar
  6. Bank fishing, fishing from a Kayak has spinnerbait special written all over it.
  7. To answer your question, it depends on the bearings. Most spool bearing upgrades will assist with the ease of accomplishing casting and pitching with less effort. The only bearings I have found that provide some noticeable distance gains are the Hedgehog Air bearings.
  8. I found 832 to be a little less limp and a little more jumpy than performance braid. It gets better with more use.
  9. I think the soft 4play swimbaits with the lip skulls are one of the most innovative ideas I have seen. I haven't caught a thing on it though.
  10. Trebles and braid are just fine with a soft rod and moderate drag. I prefer it. Stiff super fast sticks and braid with trebles will loose ya some fish for sure.
  11. JDM only people who think they are gonna catch more? That's not even remotely accurate and just ridiculous. As already mentioned there are a lot of QC issues with too many lemons. Fit, finish, longevity. There are just to many other options who have far less issues. And the big thing IMO Is the bulge on the side plate. Very uncomfortable compared to most other designs. I've seen some last years and others only weeks. I'm not much the gambling type, but its your money.
  12. Light finesse jigs and light jerk baits. That be it. On a side note I wish all baitcasters made a clicking sound when line is being peeled like the Excense DC.
  13. Lean, mean, and clean. Me likey
  14. I don't doubt they are good reels, but the side plate swing mechanism wasn't great. The lock itself was very tight too. Granted it was a display model. Pflueger makes some nice reels. Would have been better if these reels had something a little more substantial to separate them from the Abu offerings.
  15. D. I played with one at Cabelas and the can lock felt loose, weak, and sloppy to me compared to that of a Shimano. The can and spring were very thin. I don't think it would take much to snap it if one wasn't careful.
  16. Those Shimano boxes are fantastic. I'll never part with mine
  17. Get him a new Curado I. If he doesn't like it leave him. He must be nuts
  18. Yep. And American Rodsmiths. Still have some old AR rods that I really dig
  19. They have been the best for me. Other places have taken longer to ship, and I have received 2 or 3 separate packages at different times as they order direct and don't keep all advertised items in stock. Retailers have been having a hard time receiving Tatula rods from Daiwa yet choose to mark them as in stock on web site. Sometimes you're better off to call first and confirm.
  20. Agreed. Match line diameters. I generally use 6 lb for 10 lb braid, 8 lb for 20 lb braid, 10 for 30.
  21. You are correct. The clown and gold, black, and orange have worked well for me.
  22. I've heard the Rosewoods and Jadewoods feel somewhat dead compared to other rods in the same price range more than a few times. Think I'm gonna pass. Thanks D -
  23. Out of all the somewhat off the norm brand sticks I seem to eyeball these the most. So, how are they? What are the powers like compared to the norm? Soft? How is the balance? What's the build quality like? Are these made in the U.S? I'm looking for a spinning rod to throw jerkbaits with. I usually use a casting set up, but kinda miss owning a spinning outfit. I've been looking at the 6'8 med Murphey moderate stick. Anyone own this in the spinning or casting version? Thanks
  24. 3.5 inch 3/8 oz. I mostly target small mouth though.
