  1. These threads all end the same way. Higher end gear doesn't catch me bigger fish, and if anyone thinks that's why I or others choose to use it you haven't read the thread, or are not even remotely understand my take. I should have known better
  2. It adds another level of enjoyment to something I already love, so why not. You said you wouldn't get rid of what you referred to as your good stuff, so that somewhat sums it up. Get in where you fit in. I would rather fish out of a 20,000 dollar boat than a Jon too, but I can't. I've tried enough 100 dollar reels to know the refinement simply isn't there. Different story if it was all I knew but I ventured to the dark side too long ago. Yes they work, and yes you may be going crazy.
  3. The gen 1 Cumara is head and shoulders above the gen 2 crucials imo. When TW had these on clearance for 100 bucks they went like hotcakes. I bought two of the reaction models at that time and regret selling them.
  4. I would say yes, for sure. It's actually my 2nd favorite USDM Daiwa casting reel I've used, right behind the T3 1016. Tons of spool options and upgrades available making it very versatile. I just picked a NIB lefty up for 115 bucks, but that was a smoking deal I lucked out on. You can plug a Zillion hyper long cast spool in it and make it a long bomber with heavier baits, or stick a TDZ 100M spool in it and cast lighter baits with greater ease. It is a perfectly capable caster as is. I am going to replace the drag star with a Tatula Type R drag star, and replace the handle with a 90 mm Tatula handle. The stock handle is a little short for me, and the knobs are riveted on. I have no idea what Tom is talking about.
  5. I've owned quite a few Klx rods. Tell me what reel you'll be using.
  6. It's called pro blue
  7. That looks super swell. Good work, I dig it. I would have left the label off myself. Personal preference
  8. Jim Dandy. I've had good luck with the blue/orange color. Not sure what it's called. Big Brown's like em too. I'm also digging the 100 size Duo baits. Both suspending and floating models.
  9. The Excense is a bad mama jama. Why did you decide to crush the box?
  10. No. None of the stock Zillion spools will match the performance of the 1016 spool. Personally, I don't feel the performance of the type r warrants the price increase over the standard version. The comment above made sense to me. If you want 1016 performance, you'll need a 100m or jdm spool.
  11. I like the blank on the Recon 683 quite a bit. I think it's a slight step ahead of the ***. I just had a custom built on this exact blank. I wasn't sure what to expect but I'm pleasantly surprised. It would be great with what you intend. It's not to whippy and loads up really nice. Better than average sensitivity with a smooth transition into the backbone. My only concern with the stock version is that I have heard enough negative comments regarding the build quality to make me a little leary. Don't get the 682,its gonna be to whippy. Good luck
  12. I used them. Didn't care for it. All sag, no movement wacky style.
  13. I use them on all my rods. Nice to be able to change location if I want. No cracking, no problems. Works well with all hook styles and keeps the hook away from the blank - good thing, no scratches. I won't use any part of the guides or reel to accommodate a hook.
  14. Norm is spot on with his assessment. To answer your original question, I've recently started using Smackdown and I do feel it's a little less prone to digging issues in the lighter, thinner tests.
  15. Pro Qualifier, Tatula, keep moving up the ladder man
  16. Also if you're particular you can eliminate 90 percent of the rods on the market if they don't have the exact components you want. Reel seat, guides, rod action all come into play. I won't buy a rod if I don't who makes the blank either. Simple solution to weed through so many options. Maybe I'm crazy. Who knows
  17. It sucks but it is what it is. I will only purchase on line and reviews mean jack squat. What feels good to one person may be terrible to another. Big stores like Cabelas drive the little guy out of business who carried premium stuff. Then the big store stocks lame crap and mostly house brand junk. My advice - go custom
  18. Yep. EBay rc car stores
  19. You will have to look overseas if you want better than great. St. Croix makes some nice 2 piece sticks.
  20. Unless building or having a custom built, I get more satisfaction from a new reel I can tweak and tune.
  21. 90 mm is my sweet spot. My knuckles don't knock on the other knob.
  22. The blank fishes more powerful than anticipated. Fishes more along the lines of a medium heavy. I hate to part with it and if it doesn't sell that'll be okay. I'm sure I can find a use for it!
  23. This rod is up for grabs! Posted in the flea market
  24. MHX High Mod custom spinning rod. Just got a Rarenium Ci4+ 2500 for it too! Sweet!!
  25. Just fish it. You'll figure out what to use it for afterwards.
