  1. Thanks guys. Definitely going to get some of the Gambler baits. Anyone tried the Evolve Darkstar swimmer?
  2. I really like Dry Creek, Big bite baits, and Skinny Bear.
  3. I'm looking for some baits similar to the Reaction Innovations dippers to try out. What I'm after are baits with the slit in the belly like the dippers. I've been hammering the walleye since last fall with these rigged on a swarming hornet.
  4. I'd take an EX6 over a GL2 every day of the week, and the EX6 over any Duckett 10 times out of 10.
  5. Daiwa reels equipped with SV spools are harder to backlash than others, but it's still very possible to do.
  6. Kistler Klx. You're going to have a hard time finding a grip that measures over 8 inches on that short of a rod. The Dobyns Savvy makes a nice stick for moving baits. They offer a 6'6.
  7. The trick is waiting till Mudhole has free shipping on orders over 100 bucks.
  8. They make great blanks. The NG series uses a scrimless blank, the OS series does not. Most of the fast action blanks measure on the slower end and are a little closer to a moderate fast, but not quite. As for the ALX rods, the build quality is really good. I'm not a big fan of the Kigan guides, but that's personal preference.
  9. The hyper long cast spool is a nice upgrade for the Fuego if you're really wanting to rip and zing rattle baits. Put in a set of Hedgehog ZR bearings and you'll have a casting machine. Hedgehog also has a nice red drag star that looks sweet on the Fuego. It's 30 bucks, only a few dollars more than a Zillion type R or Zaion drag star.
  10. Those don't look like trout!!
  11. http://directboats.com/b52duckboat.html http://directboats.com/prostrike120.html http://directboats.com/14fivhu.html Price? Fiberglass, aluminum, plastic??
  12. One of my now hard to find Yo Zuri 3/8 Oz rattlin vibes. Then a plethora of jerkbaits, then the soft plastics - mostly tubes and flick shakes.
  13. What spinning reel are you using?
  14. Floating or slow rise jerkbait would be my choice. Something bright and flashy, maybe with a orange belly so it stands out from the bait fish. Try every cadence you can think of till you generate a strike. I've encountered this situation many times and this is what worked for me. Granted it wasn't over such deep water, but I don't think that would matter.
  15. In general, Spring and Fall. Choosing the appropriate crank is another story.
  16. The Aetos has a lighter, more crisp and responsive blank. I've seen some on sale at various places. The Hmg models I've handles felt a little more heavy and clunky in comparison. If you can afford it go with the Aetos.
  17. Go for the gold baby! If you're a jerkbait fanatic you put them wherever you think fish might be. I'm a fanatic. Sucks to lose one, but they make more!
  18. I rigged them a few different ways without the skull and all the presentations looked kinda blah, no action. The jointed hard bodies look pretty nice, but I'll stick with my River2sea with lips on them. I forget what they're called.
  19. I have the Yumeya spool in my Scorpion. For 3/16 and quarter ounce I think the stock spool is fine, especially with more aerodynamic baits. If distance is the name of your game a shallow spool isn't going to benefit greatly. A little added distance perhaps, but nothing earth shattering. The shallow spools are more geared towards true finesse fishing. Being able to use casting gear rather than spinning. I use mine for micro cranks and three sixteenths ounce jerkbaits. It allows me to cast those baits without fluff or over run where as the stock spool couldn't. I have 15 lb braid on mine. No problems there. I can also use it brake free, but again, distance isn't eye popping. It's nice to have as I switch between the shallow and stock spools while on the water.
  20. I bought a bunch of the soft 4 play baits with the head skulls when they 1st hit the market. I thought they were going to be outstanding. Unfortunately they didn't produce, even when all others did. Cool concept though, just not a lot of action.
  21. Try a River2sea standing yabbie.
  22. Need to try me some McCoy. I don't recall reading one single negative review of this stuff.
  23. Ima Flit 100 for the suspending variety, Duo Realis 100F for the floating variety. I've also been putting the Yo Zuri 3DB jerkbaits to the test with really good results. Can't go wrong with the Lucky Craft Pointer 78
  24. Fenwick methods is like 4 rods in one.
