  1. I never saw your record on the igfa website. So I guess it was beaten or they took it out cause you never paid
  2. LBH what line record do you hold?
  3. I would like to beat my state record of 10lbs 14 oz, my pb is 8 lbs and some change.
  4. That does suck :-[
  5. I have a fishing book that shows the formula used to estimate a bass's weight. The formula is Length x Length x Girth 1200 So if a bass is 25 inches long with a girth of 20 inches, the result would come out like this 25 x 25 x 20 = 10.42 LBS 1200
  6. Thanks for the tip, I never thought of that.
  7. I was recently on the IGFA website and I was looking up some bass records. Well, I found my state and saw that the line class entries for Largemouth Bass were vacant. One guy from my state had three bass pending on different line classes. I can easily top the bass that he submited, so I was thinking about submitting my own fish. I am 15 and in a couple of years, I would like to start competing in numerous tournaments. By holding several state line class records, could this get me noticed more and maybe help me acquire some sponsers. I am looking down the road and would like to know if this is a wise thing to do. By the way, it is $35 to submit a fish and must also pay the membership fee.
  8. That is such a great book, I had to read it a couple of times.
  9. Fine I'll let'em go. I know that he spooks the fish, but I really don't care anymore about the pond. I have located other ponds in the area and I'm going to fish more in other places. It wasn't my idea to shoot the otter in the first place, my neighbor (the one who owns the pond) said to get rid of them. It is just that he's gone a lot and wanted me to do to get rid of them, because he doesnt have the time. Next time I go there, I'll take my camera and try to snap some photos of the beast. I should have some posted by the end of the week. :
  10. First off, I don't let the otters suffer. I am a hunter and a very good shot, so each shot is well placed and they make quick clean kills. The otters don't breed there, there is a small stream flowing into the pond that the otters follow. Last otter I shot was killed extremely quick, I snuck up on him then blew him a couple of feet into the air with a shot to the head. He died on the spot. Also I don't trap or know anybody that does and attaining traps in my state is next to impossible, so that is out of the question. I don't fly-fish, but I have tried casting flies to the bass before with no luck. I own a pair of polarized glasses and always circle the pond before I fish to locate the bass, but I stay far enough away so they don't spook. Jerkbaits won't work, right now worms don't either. I agree with ernel, with bass not being hungry this time of year, because I have literally tried every trick in the book with no succes. In a month, I can catch the bass, just they are extremely finicky right now.
  11. I have tried that before, the fish are spooked of anything that they see, they are just retarted. As for Dawn/Dusk, I have tried that to with no sucess. I have also set up a minnow trap and caught minnows before, but the bass won't eat them either. Once the bass start spawning, I can catch them on small jigs and during the summer, I catch a lot of bass on worms and spinners. I just can't catch them now :-?
  12. My neighbor has a small pond that is a 1/2 acre in size and stocked with bass and bluegill. There have been problems with otters before, we killed one a couple of months ago and a new one has just found his way into the pond. I have seen the otter numerous times before and I am just waiting to meet him when I have my shotgun ;D Right now the bass are pre-spawn and are located in the shallow part of the pond. The fish are extremely wary and wont bite anything I throw to them. In fact, when ever I toss a lure whether a senko or small crappie jig, the bass are spooked of the lure and swim away. The bass will spook if they see someone, so I have had to switch my outfit to Realtree camo No matter what I throw to them they just swim away and don't even look at the lure. I have tried a Snag Proof Pro frog before and let it sit for 15-20 minutes. The fish will swim under the lure and look at it, but when I twitch the lure they swim away again. I have become frustrated at fishing there, because I won't catch anything. I'm looking foward to testing out some homemade M-80's there. Any suggestions about making them bite, other than the explosives.
  13. To bad they don't grow that big in my state, our state record is only 10 lbs 14 oz, by the way I live in Jersey.
  14. For me finesse is small baits that are usually retrieved slower than normal. I don't consider 10 inch worms finesse for me, in my mind a smaller than normal lure is finesse and larger than normal considered power. You might ask what is normal for me, normal is just the average bass size that manufactures advertise for bass. Power is more like a pike/musky type size and finesse is smaller like trout.
  15. I hate otters, my grand-parents had a farm pond in virginia that had "tame" catfish. You could feed them out of your hand, some of them were well over 2 feet long. One day and otter got in the pond and ate all the catfish in about a week, my grandpa found out what happened and shot it with a 12 gauge. "What comes around, goes around." ;D
  16. That stinks. If that were to happen in my state, I would probably end up in jail after what I'd do to my governor. If you really what to fight this, you can try to get outdoor life and some other magazines involved. They could probably be able to stir up enough people to get it stopped.
  17. Good job Lee!! When's the pic gonna be posted, can't wait to see the bass.
  18. 80% finesse and 20% power, it also depends what body of water I'm at. Many lakes and ponds that I fish are public with high fishing pressure so thats when finesse shines. Other times I go to private, secluded ponds that the fish rarely see lures so I use bigger lures with more aggresive retrieves. Most of my big bass are caught on bigger lures, but I do catch some 6 pounders on finesse stuff. There are many factors that involve in the use of power and finesse. In a tournament, I first try to catch a limit, so I usually start with finesse. After you catch a limit, you aren't going to keep using the small stuff so move I move on to the bigger lures for the bigger stuff.
  19. Good job!!
  20. A red and black senko is the type that works for me.
  21. I'm 15 and looking at joining a fishing club that has tournaments for teens in my area. I live in North-West New Jersey (Hackettstown). I'm not sure if anybody knows of any, but just wanted to give it a shot.
