  1. I have been using a brand called sakuma for over a year now, and it is my favorite monofilament I ever used. Prior to that it used to be momoi and yozuri. It doesn't feel like your typical mono either. It's soft, supple, and line memory has never been an issue. The best way I can describe it is that it's floss like. And because of that likeness, it's very easy to tie. I don't even lube it. I think you'll like it.
  2. Good for you! I always wanted to hunt and even paid a $20 fee for a weekeend course. That was 3 years ago, and never ended up going, lol. Actually met a friend who just started out fishing and his parents were not outdoorsman at all. They seemed reluctant about him fishing, but quickly got over it.
  3. Whata bout bank fishing? Go there and fish and if you're bored after 30 minutes, then go back home.
  4. I'm an animal lover, but I have to agree about the geese. I'm not a hunter or know anything about it, but sometimes I feel like they should increase the bag limit or season to keep the population under control. I kind of feel the same way about the whitetail deer as well. I had so many close calls the last few years that I try avoid driving at night.
  5. I can fit all 300yds of 10lb suffix 832 on my shimano fj 4000, which gives me good breaking strength and great line capacity. I think going down to 10lbs on a 2500 reel would be more than adequate. It is also more advantageous in my opinion.
  6. mallards are actually wild, but you're right, pretty much any wild waterfowl can be hatched and bred in captivity quite well. Muscovys are indeed a domesticated duck, and quite common to see around city ponds and lakes. I believe there are a lot more domestic breeds than you may think -- most notable of these breeds are the peking duck -- bred to grow large and quickly for their meat -- great egg layers too.
  7. They're everywhere! The only thing that bothers me are the amount of feces. I'm not even talking about the ducks, but the canada geese. The ducks are fine by me.
  8. Not something I take satisfaction in seeing...
  9. I went to a bass fishing flea market this past spring and saw a combo with a shimano 4000ix and almost bought it. I kind of wish I did. I have too many rods and reels already!
  10. Bass tackle can handle most stripers if you have the right line capacity and good drag; however, a proper surf setup would be best. If you're going down that route, then do your research carefully. A couple people mentioned some sites, and they contain a lot of good info, but a lot terrible advice as well. Do your research.
  11. i don't think even a subforum is necessary. If this forum was way more active then maybe, but having a pike forum and carp forum, etc would be a pretty lonely place.
  12. I was in the same boat as you. Didn't really work for me, but kept on tryng. It's pretty fun once you get the rythm going and having good accuracy helps too.I know a lot of people think it's boring, but I like it. It's fun. Wacky rigged senko that is.
  13. I've used 6lb and 30lb line. Even the 6lb is very strong for what it is, which I spooled up on my stradic 3000 for fishing flounder using a light jig head. Got hit with a big stingray, which almost spooled me. I had to tighten down the drag and even used some hand pressure on the spool when I had like 4 wraps of line left on my spool. I got the hit on the beach side of the jetty and took me up and around the tip and back down the other side (inlet side) in strong running current. Normally I would have broken it off long ago, but was curious how much pressure I can add to a fight. popped it off when I brought it to the surface. It was big but they get a lot bigger.
  14. If it's not too bad then sometimes it just pulls right out without having to cut your line.
  15. the sammy is my favorite topwater lure. It casts very well and walks so smoothly. The finish could be better though, but that's with a lot of baits. You just don't catch anythingg on it or is it somethingg else?Another lure i never did well with were the traditional looking spoons, like the dareddevil, johnson silver minnow, cleos, etc.
  16. Anyone ever try it? It is a bit expensive for grease. I'm just curious about it.
  17. I hate putting on sunscreen. The only area I put on religiously when I'm out is my face. I got prescription maui jims sunglasses and a hat and sometimes a face cover for extra protection. Long sleeves like colombia and other fishing specific shirts with high spf ratings for the rest. When I'm wearing everything, I look like one of them florida fishing guides you see photos of in saltwater fishing magazines. I don't wear all that when bass fishing where shade is readily available, but when I'm at the beach or fishing on the boat.
  18. Most times I fish alone, because I like the freedom to do and go where I want. That could mean leaving a spot and driving off to another area that could be an hour away or go to multiple spots a day. I enjoy fishing with my dad every now and then, and also fish with a friend. Actually, my brother does this alot and sometimes my buddy too: they put in their ear buds and crank up the music really loud. they literally can't hear anything around them. It's annoying as hell.
  19. The megabass xpod and rapala scatter rap minnow are two that come to mind. I didn't like the action and pop of the xpod no matter where I postition the lip or how I impart the action. Doesn't walk the dog that well either. The scatter rap minnow casts terribly like it's hollow inside -- worst casting minnow type plug I used. Also, it is very sensitive to even a little bit of debris catching on the hook or line, and can't really reel too fast; otherwise, it starts to sputter to the side.
  20. I won't do anything. Most of them are aware of what they're doing.
  21. There are no asian carp where I am at, but plenty of common carp (and probably grass carp too). I think most bass fisherman in my area would agree that the carp are pretty much harmless. Maybe they been here too long to notice, but I don't see no harm done.
  22. i'm not sure i buy into that, because as you say, 5 feet of stretch is quite significant. Perhaps on a snag it could happen, but not setting the hook on a fish. Just my thought.
  23. Bryce, those are not hybrids, but stripers.
  24. No kidding on the small baitholder eagle claws. I had them break on tiny bluegills when I was fishing for them for catfish bait.
