I'm an avid angler, and I'm very passionate about bass fishing. I consider myself a novice to intermediate level, and I'm intent on learning all I can every day. I fish from a Phoenix bass boat. Most of my experience has been fishing in the Kansas City area, and most recently, on Lake Norman.

  1. Good thread to pass the cold winter day. I have a perspective on "amateurish" YouTube fishing videos that has not been touched on. I have a channel, and while I enjoy knowing that people viewed and commented on my upload, I really do it more as my personal fishing journal. I find that the challenge of trying to capture usable video while fishing is something I enjoy. And I learn a lot in the process. Also, keep in mind that YouTube is a place to store your video content in perpetuity, and you don't have to make your content viewable to the public. I hope my kids and grandkids will enjoy being able to see me doing what I love long after I'm gone.
  2. I had this unit in my last boat, and I loved it: https://www.fusionentertainment.com/marine/products/stereo-units/ms-ra70n It's fairly priced, allows for Bluetooth connectivity, it's small, and it's made for marine applications. When I switched boats, I decided to go with a waterproof Bluetooth speaker from Braven, and it works well. I consider myself a somewhat grumpy, somewhat old man, and I like the sounds of nature when I'm fishing. I still wonder why everyone decides to interject their opinions, rather than just providing answers to posters questions. No offense intended...
  3. Howdy Airbus. I'm not a pro, but thought I'd post a comment, and see what others think. My interpretation of the image, mainly based on the down image view in the bottom panel, is that the arches are feeding gamefish amongst a ball of baitfish. The image is very similar to a situation I recently saw, and I caught several spotted bass, crappie and hybrid bass (on the same spot), vertically jigging a lipless crankbait and a Shad Rap over an image like this. Based on the formation and streaking arches, I think it's either spotted bass or hybrid bass.
  4. Thanks, I did see that the local members are planning a casual tournament next weekend at Melvern. I thought about coming, but I haven't even had the boat in the water yet (or broke in the motor), so not sure I'm ready. I will check out the blog and fishing reports.
  5. Thanks, I caught it in the pond on my old hunting place last spring. Hoping I can catch something close to that big this spring......
  6. Should have added that my name is Mike. I have a 14 year old daughter that I could never get interested in hunting, but she loves to fish with Dad. That's one of the main reasons I decided to go all-in on fishing. I am married, and in addition to the aforementioned daughter, I also have 28 year old twins, and 3 grand-children. My son is in the Army, stationed in S. Korea with his wife and 3 kids. My oldest daughter lives in Charlotte. Now you know about all of the particulars.
  7. Hello everyone. I joined the site a week or two ago, and have already learned a great deal. I have very limited bass fishing experience (mostly in farm ponds), and I just bought my first bass boat (but not my first boat). I grew up boating on the Potomac and Chesapeake, and did quite a bit of fishing there. Now that I've aged quite a bit, and given up most of my more physically challenging hobbies, I'm really excited about bass fishing. I am anxious to learn and improve on this new hobby of mine, and I'm sure glad I found this site. I look forward to joining in on some of the discussions.
  8. Thanks everyone for sharing your insight and experience. I obviously need to go out and experiment a little. I also need to take a closer at my seats - I didn't even think about the possibility that the seat and pole could be separated for stowing. I thought the only option was to leave behind what you didn't leave mounted. In either case, I will probably take both seats with me for awhile, until I figure out what works best for me. Thanks again.
  9. I'm new to the forum, and just bought my first bass boat. Thought I'd start a new topic - for those of you who fish alone, do you leave behind your rear pedestal seat? Do you use a bicycle seat on the front deck? Do you keep it in place while underway? If not where do you stow it? Any general comments or tips on pedestal seats are welcomed. I see a lot of pictures and videos of boats with no seats mounted while underway, so I'm curious if that is for practicality, or just to make the boats look better in marketing pics and vids.
  10. I just leased an indoor storage space - 12'x25' w/ 10'x10' garage door and electric plug in for charging. It's running $185 per month. With no electricity, the same size unit was $169. This is in the Suburban Kansas City.
