  1. I have a new Mudbug and the hook is super sharp, according to the thumbnail test. Would you still recommend changing the hook out?
  2. 1. Click this link - http://siebertoutdoors.com/Clothing-80.htm?productId=62 2. Select your options (size, color, sleeve length, quantity) 3. Hit Add to Cart 4. Finish checkout process 5. BAM.....you've got a shirt on the way in a couple of weeks!
  3. I have a Carbonlite with microguides. The thing is amazing. Very light and very sensitive. I've never had any kind of trouble with the guides. I just would say to do your homework before you pull the trigger on a microguide. They have their goods and bads. But I love mine, great rod.
  4. I'll be putting my order in for one this afternoon when I get home from work. I keep talking up those jigs to my buddies, now I won't have to talk as much. *UPDATE---just placed my order. Looking forward to the sweet shirt and of course to the complimentary Dredge!
  5. ....and all this after a winter where I got a Curado/Crucial combo for Christmas and just bought a Sea Eagle SE-8 *Grrrrrrr please Lord let spring come quickly!
  6. Yea, they're already talking about moving this trip to April. Although the weather patterns are sometimes drastically different north and south of the 70-corridor, I don't think their fluctuations are drastic enough to help our chances come mid-March. I'll have to check Accuweather. I know on weather.com it's showing we should be in the mid-40's right now, so we're averaging about 20-degrees cooler than average. At that rate it'll be 70's in June.
  7. I didn't care for the Super Slick that much on my baitcaster, it had a tendency to dig in easily. However, it works like a dream on my spinning rod. I'll likely never find anything like that again. Casts like a bullet and is simple to manage.
  8. I have one older Jitterbug and two newer ones. The old one runs true and bubbles along perfectly every time. The new ones seem to need adjusting every once in a while. I'm not sure if the lips of the old one are thicker aluminum or what but it never needs adjusting. The only thing I've had to do is replace old trebles on it.
  9. Yea, that's what I was hoping NOT to hear! Ha. My trip in March may just have to be postponed or something.
  10. I suppose I could give a bit of info why I'm asking.... I'm fishing a pit on March 15th in southern Indiana. We've had a brutally cold winter and have a lot of ice on the lakes here in upper central Indiana, but I think the temps in the southern part of the state have been a bit warmer. I was hoping the ice would be thawed enough for us to fish. You think it might be fishable in Mid-March?
  11. I was wondering if there were any guys here that could tell me an approximate base for knowing how long the ice will take to thaw. As you can tell, I'm getting ants in my pants concerning fishing, and I'm about to go nuts waiting for the ice to thaw. Here in Indiana, drastic temperature swings aren't out of the question, but not all that common. The ice on most of my lakes are about 7-9 inches thick. While we're sitting at averages right now of mid-30's and maybe some 40's. We actually just came through a spell of a few days in the high 40's even a day at almost 60. Given that our average temps for the next 20 or so days will likely be in the 40's, maybe a few days of 50's, about how long do you think it'd take to thaw? Keep in mind I'm just wanting some approximation, I understand that wind, sun, and water temps will affect it. I'm just looking for a quick guesstimate. I don't know the water temps, it's usually a bit breezy here this time of year but nothing too bad, and of course the sun doesn't ask our opinion. Thanks!
  12. Those are some good lookin' jigs! Siebert makes excellent stuff, as you can probably see. It looks like your tying skills are darn good if I say so
  13. Siebert jigs are definitely incredible. I got into jig fishing late last year, and I admit I had a few cheaply built ones. This winter I got several (and a couple more will be here tomorrow). I think I've got a lot of color combinations covered, with a few others in there for good measure. The quality is superb. I'm ready to get em' wet!
  14. You and me both bud. I got both a new rod and new reel this year, and have learned an enormous amount from BR this winter. Add to that I just got a Sea Eagle inflatable fishing boat! So yea.....I'm chomping at the bit
  15. Ah no never messed much with any Fedora or CentOS, I never really had the chance to, although the temptation of sticking it to traditional platforms always looks pretty good. Our technical director at one point debated switching to a Linux base, threw around ideas about RedHat, but never went anywhere with it. The company I worked for had a president that was a man obsessed with Mac. So one day we came in and had all new MacBook Pros and dual Thunderbolt monitors. It was a sweet gig. Where I work now (and insurance company) uses all PC, but our division - mobile security platforms for agents, uses all Mac, so we're kind of the black sheep. Things move slowly there, so exploring alternative ideas outside of the Mac/PC box ain't gonna happen!
  16. A member of the guards who protected the Roman Caesar were members of what was called the "Praetorian Guard" - the guys guarding the chief. A lot like the Secret Service these days for the POTUS. I worked on a piece of software recently for a server in our company that was severely critical, and contained the personal information of our clients. Being at the back and last end of that software development, I was the guy who had the last say in whether our security was adequate or not. The codename of the operation to test the security was called "Operation Praetorian" and I thought it sounded cool, so I called named myself (with a few changes).....Preytorien
  17. I fish a small pond by my house where a buddy of mine lives - he "gave me permission" when I asked. Last year, I had the first case of someone saying anything to me about it. It was the HOA president. We struck up a conversation and talked about the types of fish and the health of the pond etc. He was pretty knowledgeable despite not being a fisherman himself. His house backed up to the pond and he had seen me before. He asked if I lived there, I said no, but a friend of mine had said I could fish it anytime I wanted. He said while the rules don't allow a resident to make that kind of permission, he had seen me pick up trash before and even scold some kids who were tearing up the landscaping so he said as long as I kept it discreet and came alone he didn't have a problem with it. Doing your part to clean the place up and be polite and considerate to residents can go a long way. Most of the time a quiet and discreet fisherman isn't causing headaches so residents aren't as apt to report anything. Super nice guy, I even sent him a Christmas card this year.
  18. The boat actually has 950# capacity. I'm not so concerned about it. I bought this used from a guy who used a size 29 battery in it, along with toting his wife and dog when he went fishing, so it didn't seem to cause any issues. The only reason I've not looked at an AGM battery is the price. I'm already getting "the look" from the wife at all these add-on items I'm getting for this thing, so I've got to be conscious about price.
  19. Yea....this.... I've only had one instance where an HOA guy with way more time on his hands than he needed got after me to leave, and it was a lake I had permission to fish, he just didn't care, stating the HOA bylaws prohibited residents from granting permission to someone. I don't live in an HOA neighborhood and I don't intend to, those guys can do anything they want at-will....they're evil. The best is to find a place that allows it. Otherwise you're just one power-tripped HOA kingpin away from a trespassing charge, and unless the bass is 25+lbs, it ain't worth it!
  20. I agree with Bass_n_Brewskis I have a Carbonlite 7ft Heavy/Fast casting rod that is great. But also as mentioned in previous posts, the micro guides don't play well with leaders, and I can get my knots pretty darn small. However I never had any guide issues or anything, it just tended to really gum up the very smallest tip guide if there was just a hint of algae or scum on the knot.
  21. Nice fish. If the ice here in Indiana would ever thaw I could get out and put my Dredge Jigs to good use. At this rate it'll be May before I can get out!
  22. Perfect. That's the one I had been eyeing anyways. You just made up the mind of this guy. Thanks!
  23. I see you both suggest that one, which I like the price since I'm not fond of shelling out $200 on a battery. They're really that good eh?
  24. Ha....that always seems to work. I love win-win situations. My wife got a 2-hour massage at a spa near our house and a "handwritten" card from our 7-month-old baby girl. For some reason she didn't get upset when I told her I was thinking my budget of $50 for new tackle this spring should cover things. I can honestly say I didn't plan it that way, but I'm sure it didn't hurt my case any.
  25. I've got the opportunity to fish a small pit a friend of mine is taking me to in March. I've never fished a pit, so any advice is welcome. The pit is of course pretty deep, with steep edges, however we won't be in a boat, this will be a bank fishing excursion. What techniques and/or lure selections should I make? I have no idea the bottom composition. From other fishermen I hear that the water can be clear (5ft+ visibility), to stained (2-4ft visibility) on other days. Any insight would be a great help, thanks
