  1. Seems like everything's getting more expensive....glad Bass Resource is still free!
  2. Perfect. That's probably the route I'll go. Thanks for the advice.
  3. Darren do you think these would hold securely and strongly enough for a 3lb anchor? I'm also thinking of using these kind for attaching the D-rings. Those would hold rod/paddle leashes. I can't find anything anywhere that lists their approximate strength rating.
  4. Wow, thanks for all the great advice. I may look into all those options, other than maybe a rivet since I don't have a rivet gun and such. Thanks guys!
  5. i just received my very first kayak. A Vibe model Skipjack 90. Got a great deal and it has a lot of features/functionality that I've wanted. While it has a ton of accessories, I'd still like to add some things and I'm not sure how to do some of it. I'd like to add a couple of rope cleats and also some D-rings. However, the kits that ship have a bolt that I presume you stick through the hull, then you both it from the back side. However, where I'd like to put these cleats (or essentially where you could put them anywhere on the hull) would be completely impossible to get your hand into the backside of the hull to tighten the bolt. So how do you kayak customizing gurus do it? Do you just use a self threading screw with some watherproofing epoxy? I'm totally new to it, so if my terminology or whatever is wrong, forgive me. Any direction will be very helpful. Thanks!
  6. I have before. But not all the time. I really don't lose a lot of them, but they do slip up the shaft some. Come to think of it, i'll probably do that more often.
  7. I really only find it tough to use when it's windy. I use it with a finesse spinning setup with very thin line, so wind doesn't play nice with it. But otherwise I'd use it about any time. One thing I'd say, is that the Ned Rig catches fish, all kinds and sizes. So you may have to wade through a lot of dinks to land a good one, but it makes for fun fishing, and it's better than getting skunked. I can't say I've tried it around heavy cover as I doubt it'd be effective in thick grasses, but on sparse flats and muck bottoms, it does great.
  8. The option is to look on FleaBay. I just did a quick search and they have them on there for $169.99 + free shipping. You wouldn't have to trade your reel in and you'd still get the same price.
  9. The Ned Rig won't let you down. Odd looking, and seems overly simple, but man those things catch fish.
  10. With the soon arriving spring, we've all undoubtedly made several (many) purchases that will certainly mean more and bigger fish this coming year. What new gear have you procured this winter? Mine..... 1. Fishing kayak - Vibe Skipjack 90 - perfect size for me and has a good package of features for the price 2. Costa Caballito sunglesses in the 580G amber lenses 3. Livetarget Hollowbody Sunfish 4. Custom painted Duo Realis Spinbait 80 5. Shimano Sustain 2500 on a Shimano Crucial rod So....hurry up spring!
  11. I agree, which is why I don't use their 4lb line. There are certainly smaller diameter options. But for heavier pound test, such as 24lb, I haven't found anything smaller than Gliss and Seaguar Smackdown. I use both.
  12. I've never been impressed with the classic sales. It's always the same turn off for me....when it comes to gear, tackle, and rods/reels, they push almost exclusively BPS brand items. I'm not knocking them, my Carbonlite combo is one of my favorites, but I'd like to see more assortment. I'm also in the same boat as you all that the prices aren't really really enticing enough for me to make the 1.5-2 hr drive to see it. A lot of the items in our local flier were just listings, they weren't even on sale.
  13. Give Gliss a try. It's on my ultralight finesse rig and it's incredible. It's insanely thin, like spider silk. I think *** has a small review on it, but A-Jay did a great write up on here about it. Search for it and you'll see what he had to say.
  14. I just jumped into the realm of kayak fishing this last weekend, so my goal is to learn the in's and out's of fishing from a kayak. I'm pretty excited about it. Opens up about twice as many places for me to effectively fish that I couldn't fish before.
  15. Probably a 3-way tie between.... 1. Ned Rig 2. Weightless Fluke 3. 1/4oz White Terminator Spinnerbait w/ Gold Colorado blades
  16. The last trip I took out in the river late last winter I was catching them up by the banks, in about 6-inches of water. You can find them just about anywhere. I would say though I've never seen them less than about 3-inches, unless you're looking for fry.
  17. Sounds like we're in the same boat. The White River where I fish rarely hits 5ft. A good hole is 4-ish feet. I'm tempted to throw a Ned Rig in one of em' and just let it sit. Maybe a small fluke with some chartreuse JJ's on it.
  18. I just got mine in the mail. I went with the 75 series since I don't see a lot of large bass, the smaller size should give me more hookups. Overall the quality seems good. I don't know if the factory changed things based on customers/vendor request, but the weight on mine is painted to match it's surrounding material. The hooks look very good, I think Trokar? Either way they look very high quality. The finish is very nice, the glittery fleck will probably wear off quickly, but the paint seems durable. I can't see it lasting more than a couple seasons though without some decent wear coming through, depending on the number of fish caught Overall, I'm excited to throw it. I can see that it might have an effective, albeit specific purpose.
  19. I think we'll be out soon enough. At last information, our local fire department was saying we had about 2 inches of ice on right now, which with our week's forecast, probably won't last much longer. The White River down here is fish-able, but the melting snow has raised it a decent amount and sludged it all up. Combined with cold water and fast flow I don't anticipate I'll hit the river until warmer weather and clearer water. I'll wait for local bodies of water to thaw out, even then the temps will be coooold. Fishing will have to be really slow. But I'm willing to try it!
  20. I've wondered the same thing. I think a couple points will factor in though. As mentioned above, the Ned catches a bunch of bass, but most of them are Ned size bass. Some of those tournaments that allow for culling all the fish would benefit this as you could pull up on a good spot and just catch a mess of em' but in 5-fish tournaments they're going for size, and the Ned requires wading through a lot of dinks before you get to the big ones. The other thing is that the Ned, like a wacky or something, requires a very slow presentation. Some of the guys I fish with just move too fast. They're constantly searching and don't want to take the time to thoroughly fish an area with a finesse slow presentation. But one of my best days last year was pulling up on an old road-bed last year and dropping a Coppertreuse Ned and caught a nice bass on almost every cast for 10-15 casts straight. I must've found that lake's HOA meeting or something.
  21. Only as much as the JDM site allowed with Google Translate. Looks like a good reel though. All of their new reels look so impressive. I bought a Curado I and it's great.
  22. I sure like the Stile. Probably out of my price range though with another baby on the way
  23. I've caught a few good ones on 6-9 inch swimbaits, but like others have said, it takes a lot of patience and some frustration when dinks keep hitting it and not hooking up. The other drawback I get is that the size alone spooks fish on some bodies I fish. I like hunting down those secluded and abandoned farm ponds, the kind that you can walk the bank and fish the whole thing easily - the problem is the fish aren't used to people and lures, and no matter how quiet you are, they're skittish. There's nothing more angering than your lure hitting the water right at the shoreline and seeing several good sized wakes jet out to open water. Oh the fish that could've been. That's why I just stick to the smaller ones. The big guys/gals are just as likely to eat them as a big one, and it's far less frustrating.
  24. Tube baits Spook type baits Shakey-head anything's Deeeeep cranks Dropshot everything's
  25. I use the Gliss line in yellow. Mostly because its so thin that there's no way I could easily see a clear/brown/green line.
