  1. I catch all sizes on them. My personal best was several weeks ago on a Coppertreuse Ned Rig. I even landed a 15lb catfish with one a week ago. I don't know how they work, but man those things catch fish.
  2. I spooled it up and immediately noticed that even sort of hanging on the rod with nothing tied on, the line doesn't coil like others I've used. It seems to behave more like the YZH or McCoy Mean Green copoly I've used. I'm hoping this is a good sign. I casted out with a 1/2oz weight then walked off about 30 yards more and taped the spool, a lot like I did with my casting reels when I first started out. Hopefully that'll keep blowups to a minimum, IF I get any. Fingers crossed!
  3. Since this will be on my exclusively finesse rig (mostly senkos, spybaits, and Ned Rigs), I went with 6lb test. I went with 8lb on my attempt at Sunline Sniper and I think maybe the slightly thicker diameter contributed to the wiry feel the line had, so I went with 6 this time.
  4. Well I went ahead and got an order of Tatsu for my spinning reel on the way. I'll give it one more try. I keep upping the quality of flouro I try, and from what I hear, Tatsu is the top of the class. So we'll see. I hope it doesn't break my heart.
  5. I've had both and while the Compre is a great rod I feel the Crucial is best if your rig will need great sensitivity. The Compre is great no doubt, but the Crucial is just a bit better. But man it's 1/2 the cost. I'd almost be inclined to go with the Compre unless you have pretty disposable finances for the purchase.
  6. Great times she'll never forget! Keep up the good work!
  7. Does anyone have any advice on whether to use this on a spinning reel? I'm giving it some thought, but I am still wary since I've been burned before with flouro on a spinning rig - my try of Sniper went south very fast
  8. As said before NEVER go out without a PFD on. Every so often one of us fellow yakkers will post a somber story about someone who drowned from a kayak, and wouldn't you know it....no PFD. Just make it a habit. Invest in a nice one so it's comfortable. I wear a self inflating Mustang since it's so low profile. One thing I'd recommend is researching how to make some of your own kayak modifications. I know when I got mine I started getting the itch to make modifications. A lot can be made for much less than buying. For example - I made my own stakeout pole for about $15, which commonly run north of $75 Lastly, do some practice kayaking before you start fishing from it. For me I did 4 long trips to learn maneuvering, paddling efficiently, safety, etc. I know 4 trips is a drop in the bucket, but it's worth it when you can do better motions while fishing.
  9. Up here in Indiana I tend to use topwaters that are on the smaller end of a manufacturers spectrum since a 5lb fish up here is noteworthy. That said, the 90 is the only size I'd even seriously throw. I've used it a few times since last fall when I got it. The topwater bite had significantly shut down by time I received mine, and it has yet to pick up this year, but I anticipate good things from it. It's more like a boosted up Arbogast Torpedo to me. Makes a lot of turbulence and you're able to stop it, both great things in my book. Post some good pictures on here when you land some bigmouths with it
  10. Agree with the Zodias. It's become my favorite rod hands down. Feels more like a high-end JDM than anything else I've used (that wasn't actually high end JDM)
  11. Its a scam. I've had the exact same thing happen when I sold my wife's car. The whole, I'll send you an invoice, my shipper will pick up the car, I'll give you 90% now and 10% after I drive it a week. Do yourself a favor and steer clear. You could always string them along, it's a lot of fun, I do it all the time.
  12. I car top it, upside down on my 2003 tracker. Between the roof rack rails. I put 2 cross straps on it, then a bow and stern ratchet strap
  13. Call me a bit naive, but what does a longer handle do?
  14. You'll almost certainly have to go with a gently used kayak to hit that price point. If you could scrape a few more bucks together or make some extra cash, my above suggestion of the Vibe Skipjack 90 would come in at an attractive price, and their customer service is simply incredible. I've never seen a company stand behind their product like them.

  17. There we go!
  18. Last night was a fluke....a chance....and gave me my personal best. I had left work a bit early, and was sitting on the couch watching Andy Griffith when my wife came in the living room and said dinner would be a while and I should go fish for an hour or so since the weather the rest of the week would be suspect. I mentally slapped myself for not realizing that, loaded up a finesse rig, and hit a small neighborhood pond about 2 miles from my house. I almost never catch anything big in this pond, a couple 3lb-ers over the years, and scores of smaller fish. I almost strictly use a Ned Rig since it's about the only thing that catches anything here. I threw my first cast, felt a small tick, set the hook and had a cute little dink on the line. I casted a few more times with nothing resulting, but then my phone rang and it was my mom, and I always answer for mom. As I was talking, using my shoulder to hold the phone to my ear, I cast once more in a small pocket of the lake. I was talking, so I didn't get the lure moving, it just sat there a while. I was keeping an eye on the line, 18lb Gliss in yellow, which is so thin and tiny that it's tough to line watch it, even in yellow color. I hung up the phone and decided to move to an area that had a culvert. As I reeled the slack up, I noticed my line was taking up, but not moving in the water, so I gently reeled in case there was a fish on the other end. I felt resistance, I gave er' a sharp gunshot hookset since the Ned Rig is a pretty tiny hook. Crap....it must've been a log or rock under the water, but wait, it's moving. I reeled up any additional slack and keep reeling. My drag started peeling out bit by bit and I thought well, I have a carp on the end. Then I see the bass slowly surface and lazily thrash on the surface, it's the biggest one I've seen in person. The fight was on. I fought her (I assume it was a her) for about 60 seconds, praying frantically that my line wouldn't break, or the hook bend out. I finally landed her, and my fist easily fit in her mouth with room to spare. She thrashed a good bit, but I got her on my scale for a few seconds before she shook off of it, and she came in at 6lbs - 3oz, beating my previous best of 4.5lbs by nearly 2 whole pounds. Needless to say, the wife got credit for the catch since she convinced my lazy butt to take advantage of a nice early spring day!
  19. Indiana in general is tough to get big numbers on anyways. I just caught my personal best last night actually. 6lbs 3oz. and that was enormous to me. I told my wife that in Indiana it'll be hard to beat and likely take a long time. I think I read somewhere that bass in Indiana average about 1/2lb a year growth, so that fish was about 12yrs old.
  20. I went with a Vibe Kayaks Skipjack 90. Has a 300lb capacity, but I think that's a conservative number since I frequently push the 275lb mark in mine and it's nowhere near the waterline. Built in rod holders. Storage hatches. Pretty good package for me since I was also very new to the kayak fishing scene. I love mine, its easy to transport on my compact SUV, lightweight if I need to carry it any distance, tracks well in the water, and it's pretty wide so it's good and stable. I wouldn't say I'm comfortable standing in it, and they don't advertise it being standable, but I've seen photos of guys doing it. Might give it a look. It's $499 + $79 S/H Vibe Skipjack 90
  21. For the larger size you can't beat Cavitron. Do a forum search for it and you'll see member after member attesting to their legendary status. For smaller size I just go with cheap Strike King Mini-Pro Buzzbait.
  22. I've used both and to be honest it's a pretty close tie. The main factor for me, since I'm using it strictly on spinning gear, is that it's got to have low memory. Both have low memory. I guess if I HAD to pick one, it'd probably be YZH since I found it for much cheaper.
  23. I definitely won't be using it on my casting outfits. To me Gliss is purely a spinning line. It's really slick, so I can imagine that given it's already super thin diameter and add the slick coating, you could get some wicked dig.
  24. Ended up getting some of these by accident A-Jay. Went to Dicks Sporting Goods last night, and they had some "on sale" for $30. I got to the register and they guy stated a price over $100. I mentioned I was fine with it but there were two signs (two different colors of the Newport H2's) stating the same sale price. He said they had to honor it and gave them to me for the $30 price. They fit great and are very comfortable. Thanks for the recommendation,
  25. Did you see our weather for this weekend? Ugh
