  1. Rod Warranties - which ones are good, which ones suck? "Barely used" Metanium-DC-MGL-Hagane-SVS-Hedgehog Bearings best of everything - $200 TYD -- but no photos
  2. Yes, be careful with those and also tread lightly on ethics of bed fishing This might be one of the best posts I've seen in a while. This pretty much sums up about 70% of the content I see on a daily basis. Haha!
  3. That's a really neat video! Thanks for sharing it
  4. Also be careful with some scents. I know firsthand they'll melt in JJ's Magic. Do fine with Megastrike. I'm not sure about the others, might be something that only happens with the garlic scented stuff.
  5. I use spybaits shallow all the time. I fish the "wrong" if there's such a thing. I run them just subsurface and they'll come up and take it a lot like they would a weightless fluke. Actually Gene just did a video where he talks about using one. He doesn't go into much depth about it, but throws it when they're schooling - that means it'd be deeper water, but I imagine if they're feeding on the surface you'd run it just below the water.
  6. I did this all the time when I switched from a Curado I to the Curado 71XHG. I backlashed about the first hour I used it, took some getting used to the different configuration
  7. I have the 90's in a few colors, I haven't noticed one being a better producer than another, but I actually have noticed some of the props on the back being a better prop to start up and get that good "plop plop plop" going. So that one tends to be the one I throw the most. It happens to be in Loon.
  8. It's no wonder. This is the best fishing forum available out there on the internet. Nothing else is even close.
  9. I understand the frustration from both sides of the fence. I decided to do something about it and bought an inexpensive, easily portable fishing kayak. Problem solved! I rarely fish large lakes with it, but I frequently fish these larger size ponds like you describe and the kayak does great for that. I've seen a lot better success and enjoyment being able to do both. Many times I'll bank fish in the early AM when they're up shallow feeding, then get the kayak out as they start to transition to deeper waters as the sun goes higher throughout the day.
  10. Love it. That looks great! Congrats on the PB!
  11. I just wish there was more than ONE option for a foot controlled transom-mount trolling motor. As far as my Google skills go I've only found one, the MotorGuide Bulldog. There's a product called ProControll Foot Controll Adapter, but it's gotten mixed reviews. Seems like there would be a good market for something like that.
  12. Great! Thanks Glenn, it's humming along smoothly for me now
  13. Mine were situational, then I just started throwing them out and using different retrieves rather than the "correct" one. I have a lot of luck in the summer months retrieving them just subsurface. Seems to do well.
  14. I've used it exclusively for a couple years now on a couple of my all-around reels. It's not a limp line. Eventually it loses a bit of stiffness like any braid will, but it's not J-Braid limp. It's by far my favorite line, I just haven't had to replace braid on my other reels yet so they've not made the transition.
  15. Ever had one of those products that you just can't get away from? Maybe it has one or two negative characteristics, but enough positive characteristics that you can't find anything else to replace it, and you can't just stop using it? I feel that way about Gliss line. I jumped on the first opportunity to use it back when it first became available. I LOVED the casting distance. It blew me away. But then I realized its biggest shortcoming - it's lack of toughness. I don't fish over wood much, and rocks or shellbeds aren't usually something I frequently encounter, but I still noticed a bit of fraying from the teeth of the fish. No problem, I'd cut it off, retie, and move on. Over a couple of seasons I thought "Well, I'll try something else more durable" and tried a few different lines, all with good luck of course, but I just still kept finding myself hitting the "Checkout" button with Gliss in my cart. I can't seem to say no to that stuff. To me, the benefits of massive casts (me being a predominantly shore fisherman) are the top priority. Maybe other folks can't say the same. I know if I fished heavy wood or rocks I would have a different opinion. But so far they have me....."hooked"
  16. Preytorien is a re-spelling of the "Praetorian" virus in "The Net" which was a movie that really got me interested in computers and software and such, which lead me to my chosen career
  17. Yep like stated 10lb braid will do just fine for your application. Good luck!
  18. That certainly doesn't look like it should do that. I know I don't have that kind of play in my 71XHG. Maybe remove the anti-reverse assembly, clean, reassemble, and see if you have the same issue
  19. In the super rare event that I'll tie on a leader to my braid I sometimes use glue since the braid I've been using (Gliss) is very slick and I've had several slips, even with 10 turns of an Alberto knot
  20. I use Picardin. It seems to resist mosquitoes, flies, gnats, etc. I also like it because it doesn't smell, and doesn't contain DEET, so it's safe for my little folks that like to tag along from time to time. Goes on like lotion, dries without a film. I also like the Permethrin spray. Seems to work very well.
  21. I wish they still made the "Barts Death Dealer" frog. I watched some video of that and it looked effective, but he apparently stopped making them? I contacted him to see what their availability is.
  22. I agree, those are both really good baits. I bought a couple and they're not a lure you pull out every day, but for those specific conditions - similar to the OP's - these really shine.
  23. That's about half the reason I ended up using it "wrong" - I got so tired of trying to make sure I was using the right gear, line, retrieve, depth, etc. that I just said screw it and threw it out and started doing various little things until something worked. And like someone mentioned above, my bass right now seem to be keying in on minnows since we're just before spawn here, so it seems to be pretty effective.....for now
  24. I've lately noticed I've been having more luck fishing a spybait the "wrong" way, as directed by various instructional videos. I run them a bit quicker than usual, just subsurface, at a steady pace, and popping them now and then. ....and of course I'm using braid. Anyone else have luck fishing them wrong?
  25. Fishing line is usually a good deal, and most of the major brands are Prime eligible (or at least my favorite brands have been) Lure though, that's a different story. Tackle Warehouse seems to take my money then.
