  1. Zoom trick worm in black. Weightless.
  2. One reason I love to fish Beetle Spins. Even the catfish in my ponds like them. Always a surprise when you feel the tug.
  3. crappie.com talks a lot about bluegill. I'm over there occasionally. The other I don't know about.
  4. I moved North after high school to one hour over the Florida line. 😄 Heat is all I've know for my 49 years.
  5. This is what I'm dealing with now. Like many folks, the city planted them everywhere years ago. Now, we're seeing how bad the root systems are. I have about 35 more of these to cut down "when I have the time". 🙄
  6. I've had decent luck tossing a curly tail worm TX rigged and fished extremely slow with small twitches parallel to the dock. My pitching skills to get way under docks need a lot of improvement.
  7. Great idea for a thread! Spent 21 years in Law-Enforcement as a Police Officer and then Police Chief in a small town. Got burned out and felt the calling to work with special needs children. Did that, and coached baseball and football in our local school system for approx. 7 years until Covid messed things up. Got hired back in the same town where I was Police Chief- but this time as the Public Works Director. I've stressed to my kids over the years to never leave a job on a bad note- and I'm sure glad I didn't when I left the first time. Let's see, what else? I'm also a Roman Catholic Deacon and I've also worked part-time in the funeral business for a few years. Pick-ups, embalming room, visitations and services. Pretty interesting stuff.
  8. Thanks! I never reel in to close the bail and do tie a swivel with my little spinners. The reel is a cheap one but works just fine with mono. I have no idea how well the line roller is made. That may be the problem.
  9. Fished with some about 20 years ago and took it off my reel for some reason or another and never bought any again. I was gifted a spool of old Spiderwire a couple weeks ago when I bought a rod from a co-worker and figured I'd try it again. I put it on spinning gear. Got a couple of questions. Does braid go bad over time? I'm telling you, this spool is old. When putting it on the reel for the first time, the line felt rough and not smooth. It's 10lb braid and seems like it's still pretty strong because I've been able to pull off snags with my favorite Beetle Spins and jigs by bending the hook. Occasionally, I'm finding tiny miniscule knots on the line. I haven't had any birds nests or anything and it seems to be casting well enough. What causes these tiny knots and how can I stop that from happening? Sometimes I cut the line after the knot and re-tie. Other times I just leave them there. Hasn't seemed to make much of a difference so far. From what I've read on-line, Spiderwire is pretty crappy line, right? So, not a convert yet. I do like the fact that I can retrieve stuck jigs instead of breaking my usual 4 and 6lb line. I've read fish can see the line easily, but it hasn't made much of a difference with reaction type baits like the Beetle Spin in the ponds I fish. At least I think. I'm catching basically the same amount of fish as I've caught in the past with mono. Thanks for any replies!
  10. I own way more than one. I fish the same two all the time. Like you, I bring both in case something happens to the main one.
  11. I'm the guy who rarely changes lures while fishing. Yeah, I know...weird. I like to stick with something until I catch something on it or I break it off. KISS principle. Regardless of whether I'm fishing a pond or heavily pressured waters, the slump killer for me is a plain ol' TX rigged worm. Usually black. Usually a Zoom Finesse or Trick Worm. I have it in my head that the slimmer profile of the Zoom worm compared to a Senko/Stickbait appeals better to a tight-lipped fish. No logic behind that- just something that I think. 😉 I'll stick with that until I catch something and then try something else.
  12. Stopped at the local pond after church for a few minutes. First cast with a 1/4oz white beetle spin. Didn't even get a bite after that.
  13. Bank fish here. Backpack works for me. One pocket for bait, one pocket for hooks/weights and the main pocket for a plano style box.
  14. Welcome! I'd start with a large plastic worm on a Texas Rig. Color is dependent on what the water clarity looks like. In muddy and stained water, I prefer darker colors like black or green pumpkin. To really answer your question, we'll need a lot more information. How big is the pond? Fishing from the bank or boat? Is it full of weeds, rocks, stumps? Also, do you know where he hangs out? What type of gear (rod, reel, line, weight) do you have?
  15. Amen to that. Just stocked up again yesterday, but my fish like the black. 1/4 oz.
  16. And if you buy over the Internet, you're charged a "convenience" fee. 😄
  17. I don't know a thing about underwater worms, but I oversee a wastewater treatment plant as part of my job. We pump our retention pond into spray fields and have to manually swap each field. When doing that, the valves are always under water and you'd be surprised at the color of the worms that live in that. I've seen pink similar to the bubblegum color, almost clear and a light orange so far. Maybe some underwater worms are pretty close to bubblegum color?
  18. I'm basically in the same boat but I'll throw green pumpkin, too. My water is constantly muddy and anything with a dark profile seems to work (except purple). I stick with black 95% of the time. I fished the one you sent me a day or two ago. I didn't catch anything but not giving up. To me, they remind me of a tube bait. I don't normally throw them (or have any idea what a tube is supposed to mimic, either) but if they start biting the poop bait, I'll have a few bags of tubes to use up, too. 😄
  19. Threw a couple different Texas Rigged worms, a weightless stickbait and a tiny 3 inch worm with no luck this morning. Finally decided to take out my favorite lure- a Beetle Spin. Hadn't fished it since October because I didn't think I'd get many bites with a moderate retrieve in the cold water. It was the ticket. Caught 4 bass and a surprise catfish. That's why I love the Beetles (and it's driving me nuts that some of my pics still show up sideways even though they're right when I load them into my computer to re-size). By the way, is this a brown bullhead? I'm not too swift when it comes to catfish species...
  20. Planned a quick fishing trip last week when I got a few comp hours at work and needed to take off. Of course, it's raining and windy. Still went, though. Lasted 1.5 hours. This is all that bit. Doesn't look like much but the bait is an old (10 inch?) Mann's Jelly Worm.
  21. Long story short, we're down a vehicle in my family. The kid up in college had an old car that died, my wife gave hers to him, she has my truck and I have a work provided truck that I'm not supposed to use outside of work hours/call-outs. Obviously, money is an issue and we're not able to buy another car at this point considering price/insurance/tags. I've played with motorcycles in the past but that was 30+ years ago. I never got my Motorcycle License back then and sold the bikes that I had. In my state, a moped/scooter etc. under 50cc does not require an M license or insurance/tags. All I need is a helmet and the bike. That sounds ideal financially and would give me options to ride to Wal mart, fishing ponds, etc. when my wife has the truck. I live in a rural area and would stay off of major roadways. The Honda Ruckus looks really good to me. Guys modify them and use them for camping trips, etc. We have a Honda dealer in town and the options are the Ruckus and the Metropolitan, which is not really my style. No used ones. MSRP is $2899. We also have a large mower shop that stocks the Chinese scooters like Tao. From what I read, replacement parts are pretty hard to get. MSRP is about $1000. So, just looking for opinions and options. I know the 50cc would only run about 35 mph stock. That doesn't bother me. Sitting at home every day after work and planning ahead to use the truck does. 😉 Anybody got any other ideas? Models? I research EVERYTHING before I buy, so any help is appreciated
  22. It's a freaking beast. I always had dreams of using it to catch those 40lb cats but it hasn't happened yet. I'll be ready for it one day, though. 😄
  23. The Zebco 808 with the heavy rod is my only catfishing gear. I bought it just for that and never felt the need to upgrade- it does exactly what I want a catfish rod to do. 👍
  24. I hate that, but thanks for letting me know. I'll save my money instead of trying the originals.
  25. Glenn, Thank you for this. I've had these in my tackle collection for many many years and never fished them- mostly because I rarely use white in my muddy waters. Never even knew what they were called. They are slightly different because the paddle doesn't have a split in it like the ones in the video. Is there any advantage to fishing it weightless? Since this is a senko-style stickbait, it's already super heavy for the light line that I always use.
