  2. I like spiderwire mono but dear their fluoro... This vid shows the line can be broken with skin lol...pretty telling
  3. He used Abu years ago but came out with his own in 2010...the tackle tour review of his reel says they looked at his gear and it is all the W&M rods and reels.
  4. Dx 703 with chronarch d7 and 12lb fluoro...just feels right
  5. Would love to see electric blue to match a zillion coastal or dobyns champion...I already have 2 handles..could I just purchase the nut cover and knob caps in red?
  6. Had a max 682c and it was a great jerkbait and topwater rod..only sold it cause I had a change to get a dobyns champion. For the money it is a great rod. Lets not forget that Gary dobyns designed the max line before he started his own company. They are quality for sure
  7. Had one and the tip broke on a hookset. However, my friend down in florida has one and loves it. Just the luck of the draw I guess though that shouldn't be the case when buying a rod.
  8. For pitching, I would go 40 at minimum.
  9. The Skeet Rod is good but heavy like most glass rods are. I have heard great things about the BPS cranking sticks for the price. I don't think you can go wrong with either.
  10. Chronarch d...even over my cores
  11. Soft Plastic Jerkbait...I can make that thing dance.. My goal for this season is to become a good jig fisherman...
  12. Daiwa also cut Denny brauer too who is nothing but class. I feel it was probably more a market decision than one over antics. Very few people are Daiwa Pro Staff compares to other companies. Shimano used to be Like that until they entered into a partnership with BASS. Now everyone seems to be switch to Shimano/loomis
  13. Kvd is amazing...I had ardent line butter and it was crap so I didn't buy into the conditioner thing. Kvd changed my mind
  14. I upgraded the bearings on a reel and to me it is most noticeable on mid range and precision casting. I would be tempting fate if I attempted a bombing cast as the startup is much quicker than it was stock. However, for regular casting I do feel there has been a noticeable improvement. I have had to be more wary of my thumb control though but I feel this is making me a better caster overall as I am more away.
  15. As I posted on the other discussion, I own and have owned almost all of the new Lew's iterations including tournament MG, Tournament, Super Duty, Tournament Pro, Team Lews and Team Lew's Pro. I have had no issues with any of these reels. I purchased the BB1 with high hopes. It was smooth on the retrieve no doubt, which is in line with all the Lew's I have owned. However, maybe I got a bad reel, but I simply could not get any distance on the BB1. It was purchased with the expressed intent of being a mid to deep cranking reel and I paired it with a champion 765 glass, 12lb Fluoro and a big Strike King 6xd. I have this same line on a shimano chronarch d and a cumara 72mf. Now, I may not be a 20 year vet on casting, but I have been using baitcasters for the last 4 years almost exclusively and do not consider myself a novice. Furthermore, I have owned every major manufacter's reels from Abu, Shimano, Daiwa and Quantum. I tried every iteration of brakes and and spool tension I could in an attempt to get good distance. I should have been able to bomb such a heavy lure on such light line and yet I could only cast without a backlash if I had four brakes (2 blue, 2 white) and the tension tightened down way too much. I had used kvd line conditioner on the chronarch and lews. I was casting lighter baits on the chronarch with two brakes and loose tension almost twice as far as I could get on the BB1. My team lews (the red/silver) had 2 centrifugal and no magnetic brakes and was bombing chatterbaits farther than the BB1. Again, this is a problem I have not had with any other Lew's reel. Even the MG and Super Duty which are only magnetic brakes required at most 3 brakes and a loose tension when I casted on the same rod. Sadly, I sent it back for a Lexa in 4.9:1. We shall see how it turns out. Overall, It palmed great, was light and had a smooth retrieve. My only bad experience with a lew's reel.
  16. Zillion type r on a savvy 735 for frogging. Zillion coastal on a champion Orange pixzilla on champion extreme Skeet revo on skeet rod Stradic fj on veritas Team lews on savvy 703 Chronarch d on an old cumara
  17. Jig fishing is what I am trying to work on this year. Every year, I give myself something to work on for the upcoming season and I and rigging all must stuff up with jigs to find what I like best
  18. It's good this was brought up because I was getting confused regarding Gary's "official" line of rods. I know Shimano owns G. Loomis but I always saw Gary's name on Temple Fork Outfitters. How can Gary be in line with both Temple Fork and now with North Fork Composites? Does he own Temple Fork? If not then we have Gary Loomis Temple Fork Rods and Gary Loomis North Fork Edge rods as two seperate and distinct entities?
  19. The first generation with the small knobs worked fine for me for 2 years. This was the version reviewed by tackel tour and was a good reel for the price. Then they dropped it to 79.99 and changed the knobs and got rid of the thumb bar grip. the newest iteration has a matte black finish and is a totally different design so idk.
  20. It all depends on location and what group dick's is going after. The DSP I went to in florida when visiting a friend had a fishing section both freshwater and saltwater that was miles and miles beyond what I see here. If the demand is there, the stores will cater to it. Here in NY the Dick's is lame. Go down to danbury and its 3x the size and has some loomis g2's, rage rods, garcia villains etc. Not high end, but mid tier and especially higher than what the Poughkeepsie store has.
  21. Core 100mgv with champion 736 Zillion type r with champion extreme 745 Zillion type r with champion extreme mike long Zillion coastal with champion 734c Custom super tuned zillion with champion 684 Team lews with savvy 703 Shimano chronarch d with cumara 7'2 MF Shimano Core 100 with champion 705cb
  22. Interesting. I had bout it with the intent to use it for deep diving cranks but ended up switching it out for an mg and I can bomb them with the same line...
  23. I gotta say I wonder what I did wrong. I have all Lew's reels and I couldnt get the bb1 to cast even without a backlash even with 4 brakes on and the tension tight. Anytime I loosened it up I got a major backlash and I am not a beginner. I have never had a problem with any other lew's reel be the the tournament, team lews, super duty, tournament pro. I own them all and this one I couldn't dial in with 12lb fluoro.
