  1. I was 23. I by accident almost caught a large bass and the line broke. I swore vengeance against that fished and promised I would catch him in the future. 6 years later, last summer I went back to that SAME lake and intentionally went to the same area and caught fish there. Truly satisfying
  2. Great reel. Super lightweight but a good performer. Smooth drag helped me catch many a fish... You won't regret picking one up
  3. HA! The exact reel on the exact rod I had mentioned lol
  4. Have a 50, 100mg with hawg handle and a MGFV with hawg handle....all of them are awesome.. I find it strange that they would discontinue them when they just recently introduced the 100MG7 to replace the MGFV. Either way, a new chronarch line along the lines of the D series would be appreciated. Have a chronarch d and it is spectacular
  5. Would I be a jerk of I said technically there is a US Open on Lake Mead each year. Considered one of the toughest tournaments. Been won by Gary Dobyns, Rick Clunn and Aaron Martens twice if I am not mistaken. That is a tourney I would love to see all the top guys compete in
  6. Look at the home lake curse in the classic....only one guy (Boyd) has won in his home state. I would give then locals a chance, but the pros are the best for a reason. Top pros rarely win on their home waters. The last guy I can think of to do it was Biffle back in 2010 when a tourney was moved to his home lake short notice. That gave him an advantage since other pros didnt have a full practice....
  7. A cheaper option would be 25lb big game. Though if you get hung up it will be harder to retrieve.
  8. Plano box divided into size and color...simple and effective
  9. I got a tip from Alton Jones which said to use golf gloves. Picked up a pair and haven't gone back. They are lightweight and you can feel the bite and cast just fine.
  10. I actually enjoy that they show the rods breaking as it shows that it happens even to the top guys. Bobby lane broke 2 Veritas rods, 1 spinning and one flipping. Brauer broke a rod with fish on and had his reel pop out of the reel seat on another. Just makes me feel better know that it happens to the best as well lol..
  11. Technically that supposed to be the Texas Toyota Bass Classic hosted by the PAA. Byron Thrift won it this year but the top points anglers in both FLW and BASS qualify and compete in it.
  12. In 13 B.A.S.S. tournaments he has 3 wins and all in one year. 2 opens and one elite....that is crazy impressive....
  13. Whats funny is I started out having never used a grub. My first go to bait was a senko. I picked up a couple of packs from Gander mountain and spent a whole day fishing them. I couldn't believe what I have been missing out on. I had fish as big as the grub bitinig it. Really was eye opening.
  14. All of my hits on a jerkbait come on the pause. I think I have accidentally set the hook more often than not as I go to jerk again and the fish is on the lure already. I probably retrieve too fast. Im using thin line so alot of times its hard to see the line jump especially on a windier day.
  15. Ziplocks divided into 1. Big worms 2. Craws 3. Beaver Style 4. Finesse Worms 5. Hawg Baits 6. Stickbaits 7. Soft Jerkbaits 8. Swimbaits 9. Lizards 10. Trailers 11. Curly Tail Worms As a guy in the back of the boat, I then take a 3 gallon large bag and fill it with assorted plastics from all of these, then put them back with I am done...easy system.
  16. Wasn't too long ago that an FLW angler was killed by lightening in a flash Florida storm that came and left quickly. I would say it is better to err in the side of caution. Not to mention the logistics including weigh in and spectators if things stayed bad. Better to call and it and move the day back
  17. Evers comes from an athletic background so I believe his anger at losing the fish was because of his competitive nature. Goes to show that guys do care about winning even though there is no money. Ish and Ike talk alot but they sure can fish. Those guys basically have the same personality. But they can back it up. The show has some guys who seem like great people in general like Kelly Jordan, Denny, Shaw, Hackney, Skeet and McClelland. Those guys are a pleasure to watch and listen to.

  19. Okuma seems to be making some strides in the freshwater market. Though I have read issues regarding the helios spinning reel, the baitcaster has gotten some good reviews. The serrano also gets alot of love and blew out at TW when they had a sale. Nothing wrong with trying something new, you might be pleasantly surprised.
  20. ^^^^^^^^^ I would assume that he has some financial stake in the company ala KVD and Nitro boats. I have one of his old Revo's and it is by far better than the W&M version. However, as I related to MLF before, many of those guys are using discontinued rods and reels that many of us consider inferior. Are we to assume that these guys are stocking up on old Accurist/PT rods/reels that are no longer made? Or is it that they just have stuff that we consider not "top tier" that they prefer? Or is it just that they are that good? I have fished on several occasions with an ex FLW pro for a guide down on Kerr resevior and he was still using his old rods/reels from years ago. Old, beat up gear and he still fishes tournaments to this day. I know this stuff wasn't souped up or supertuned. A guy in my club marshalled for Edwin Evers and he said all he was using was Pro-Qualifier reels and rods. Cheap, seemingly inferior product and he still out fishes most of the field every event. I tend to believe they are just THAT good regardless of gear. Give the top guys a zebco/ugly stick combo and I bet they could still do great in tournaments..
  21. I think that your everyday fisherman overrates the quality of gear the pros use. Guys feel that the pros MUST be using rods and reels better than what is available to us. However, I think they are just great fisherman. If it came strictly down to gear, Randy Howell, Ish Monroe and Jvd would always be on top as they are sponsored by the best rod/reel companies etc. Gary Klein has said on numerous occasions that the regular Angler spends too much on gear and he still uses the same quantum accurist reels for his heavy applications. Watch Major League Fishing. Dean Rojas, Gary Klein and others are all the gear they are sponsored by. Also, some of their rods old, beat up and discontinued quantum accurist/pt rods. I think that like us they have rods for certain techniques which they prefer. They aren't using ALL new gear, but a hodge podge mixture. I think we look way too much into it sometimes
  22. Savvy 735c....frog rod needs backbone and tip, not sensitivity. However, since I'm using braid ( which increases sensitivity) I can pull double duty with this rod. You don't need to drop crazy cash on a frog rod, I got the savvy used for $90 and it does everything a frog rod needs to do
  23. The Excalibur squarebills are great and you can get many of them on sale now that Edwin Evers is with Megabass....Rapala has the DT thugs which are balsa and work great in brush...
  24. I run braid with a leader so I had issues casting through the guides especially if cold on there is junk in the water. I stay away now with spinning rods at least...
  25. I know this line gets alot of hate but I used the 14lb For flukes with no problems. That being said, based on the number of reviews, I am sure I got more lucky than anything. Now I have moved on to higher end Fluoro's and wouldn't go back to Vanish. It is still better than Stren Fluorocast or Spiderwire EZ Fluoro
