  1. Dobyns savvy 703 with a lexa 7.1 and 30lb pp. this is my all round setup and does everything from spinnerbaits, chatter baits, buzzbaits. I have found that spooks can be worked with a heavier action rod compared to say a popper. Generally they have bigger hooks People say dobyns rods are generally underrated for their power so this MH might be more like another companies medium action. However, I feel they are rated correctly, just they have a softer tip that most. The true power of the rod is in the backbone, so I can get away with using a heavier power rod while still having enough give to play the fish out and not dear him spitting the lure. Also, I mostly use the spook jr. It still casts like a bullet As was mentioned, you can cast a spook a long way and braid and a longer rod will really help you out.
  2. Line Diameter 6lb 8lb 10lb 12lb 14lb 17lb 20lb Inches .010 .012 .014 .015 .016 .017 .018 Millimeter . 254 .305 .356 .381 .406 .432 .457 Tackle warehouse has it listed at .18 for 20lb. So they are all equal I apologize for being wrong. How's this, it was a much springier line for its diameter and rating. It is tough line no doubt but IMO much less manageable than siege which I love
  3. It has a very large diameter for the lb test. I think I read that it's breaking strength is like 50% higher than the rated test...I used 20lb and it was too big even for what I wanted it for. tough tough line
  4. Makes sense considering the tournament mg and bb1 have elongated handles etc...makes me wonder about the extended 95mm carbon fiber handles. Those things are aweet
  5. The originals were the first technique specific rods I ever bought. For the money they can't be beat IMO. I know some people who have the newer spinning ones and say they are lighter and more sensitive. If they are as good as the originals, you can't go wrong
  6. In that situation I want something high speed. You are usually fishing deeper water and therefore there is gonna be a large amount of line out and some slack. when a fish bites, you are gonna want something that can pick up line really quickly in order to keep the fish pinned. I use a high speed zillion in 7.3:1. Price wise there are a ton of options depending on what you are willing to pay. Several threads here mention great deals or higher end stuff. Really high speed reels like the Abu STX, Daiwa Zillion Type R, Lew's Tournament Pro or Super Duty, BPS Pro Qualifier, h20 mettle etc will all give you what you want.
  7. I got a pair of the the Lew's pliers as a rebate for buying a super duty reel and they are amazing. They have all that you asked for and can be purchased on their site. Cut braid like a dream

  9. Senko 6-8 inch curly tail worm Havoc pit boss Brush hog Fluke... That can cover almost anything
  10. High speed reel, dobyns champion 683c, 15lb invizx and a 4/0 EWG hook
  11. Lews tournament mg has a longer handle, high line capacity for big line and 14lb of drag. Super duty is good too but harder to find at the $100 price point. The daiwa lexa has a much lower drag rating but I have used it for frogs and it has done surprisingly well. Curado g7 can be had for that price as well. What you need to focus on is that whichever reel you choose, it's a high speed ala 7:1. High speed helps you retrieve the lure quicker to make another pitch as well as bring the big ones in when you finally catch em
  12. I also was lucky enough to get some premiers for like 35 bucks at dicks. 60 then 25% off and then coupons....great deals abound you must have to look and know what you are looking for
  13. I always used a leader and never had a problem with it. I loved the casting ability and sensitivity. Seriously, based on what people say about it I think I must have gotten luck. Never had one break off on the entire spool of 8lb line.
  14. Flipping usually means a longer rod. I pitch with anything from 6'10 to 7'4. Alot depends on the weight if the lure and the tip of the rod. Softer tip is easier to pitch with
  15. They are a great great bait. For the price they cannot be beat as a flipping/pitching and punching bait. Best bait of the havoc lineup. You will catch bass anywhere.
  16. I had a few of the generation 1's and they were great rods for the money. Only gripe was that they were way stiffer than their rating and a tad heavy but at that price they were the best rod out there. All Abu rods are heavier than their rating though so if you take that into account you should be good. 30 bucks is a steal
  17. People hate on nanofil but I used the 8lb with no problems. Cast great, was sensitive. Great line just a bit expensive
  18. Got mine on my fluke setup with a champion 683c and 15lb fluro. That thing can bomb flukes and senkos a mile...so light. Great reel
  19. I gotta say I had no problems ever with 14lb vanish on my fluke setup..used it for 3 year with no problems. Must have gotten lucky. That being said, I switched to higher end fluoro like sniper shooter and invizx and haven't looked back. Invizx has stretch but is smooth casting.
  20. Got rid of facebook as a prospective teacher...Havoc baits are awesome though
  21. Man I'm the only guy to say SKeet Reese huh? I always thought he seemed relaxed and funny. And he is a dn good fisherman
  22. I double up my DX Mike Long Jig rod as a Carolina rig rod. Heavy action (But more medium heavy). It has the action, length and sensitivity needed for deep water stuff. High speed reel and 17lb Fluoro. I don't really focus on the leader specifically because I use extra fluoro from spools which don't have enough line on them to put on a reel. Great way to use high pound test fluoro. Weight is dependent on wind and depth since I always want to maintain bottom contact. Usually 3/4 oz.
  23. Yea man I think they are great...really good at staying on the keeper...as sleek and trip of a punching bait as you can get
  24. I've lost several sammies...luckily I got them on sale.
