  1. Dobyns, powell and daiwa make 6'8 and 6'9 heavies
  2. Dobyns no doubt
  3. Well there are Labor Day sales going on. For a frog rod, the 735 is money. It isn't as sensative as the champion series for bottom techniques but remember, with braid you are going to feel even more.
  4. Thank you guys for the great handles. The parts match perfectly and being the OCD type I had to match it up. You guys keep getting better
  5. The mojo at croix at 6'6 is labelled worm and jig as well.. Labels provide a general idea of how a rod is going to perform and what it is geared toward. However, it's just that, a guide. I have rods labelled for spinnerbaits that I don't love spinnerbaits on etc. A frog rod can easily double for a heavy jig and trig rod. Topwater rods can work with jerkbaits etc
  6. Had em both...I'd take the lews
  7. Lol I have a savvy 703c I would part with for a good price. I Just have an extra and It's a great all round rod and can do everything you asked for... Pm me of interested
  8. When I first got into fishing I used the 14lb for light jigs and flukes and never had a problem over multiple spools. Based on what I have read, I must have gotten really lucky. Then again, maybe that test is the sweet spot in their lineup. Berkely 100% fluoro is much better line but of course is more expensive...
  9. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I am a dobyns guy but to be fair to Duckett he left carrot stix BECAUSE their general population rods were not up to his standard. He claimed that the rods he got on were not what the average joe was getting and didnt want to be associated with a company that was being dishonest to consumers. "Duckett said he has severed ties with E-21 because of “strong disagreements over construction of the Carrot Stix series rods” and “because of the financial instability” of the Toronto, Canada-based company. Duckett said he believes his reputation as an angler and businessman would have been damaged had he maintained his relationship with the company." He started his own company and took the lead designer of e21 with him and his rods have now gained a nice following...
  10. The Internet is where the deals are at...for sure.
  11. You can use almost anything. I know guys who killed them with a C-Rig and a Super fluke. I like either a Creature Bait or a Big worm. Brush Hogs/Skeet Wide Load, Havoc Hawg, Seriously, the options are endless.
  12. Could you, Yes. My one combo would be Champion 734 and 6.3:1 Zillion. However, I would need at least a spare spool for braid or Fluoro.
  13. I would say the issue comes down to a Chronarch E which actually has a history of use going back to the Curado E. There is therefore a much longer history for people to go by. Obviously, people love the Curado E and as such would love the Chronarch E. However, the Chronarch is just that, an old Curado. This Chronarch may bring the high level of enthusiasm back to the Chronarch line ALA the D series which is a phenomenal reel. I applaud Shimano for trying to up the ante on the Chronarch line again AND find a middle ground between the Core and Chronarch E. It seems to me that the literally took the middle ground by offering a 150 size, higher gear ratio and an X-ship which supposedly helps with smoothness. Now my stradic FJ is smooth as butter so if a hint of that new power moves into the chronarchs it will be a welcome addition. I think we just need to sit back and wait and see. Let people buy them and let the reviews come before jumping to conclusions regarding feel, smoothness and longevity.
  14. Well I would also assume taper and action would have an effect beyond the materials. G. Loomis breaks their rods into categories so a Jig/Worm rod might be built in a way to be more sensitive to bottom techniques compared to a spinnerbait rod etc. That would be the only reason I could think of.
  15. His first "problem" was tying braid directly to the spool and it slipping. That is no fault of the reel and was easily fixed.
  16. Click on the sponsor link to the right of this page for HawgTech. It takes you to their page. Go to contact us and they have an email option. The shimano knobs were offered as an option as they are the only other knobs that will fit the Hawgtech handle. You can either have shimano knobs or the Hawgtech cork knobs which are also sweet. For the swept handles and anodized parts you need to email them and ask. I prefer the swept handles because they are longer and less bulky than the originals but that's just me. What's even better is that the swept handles fit reels without a swept drag star like my chronarch D which is picture. Really awesome looking
  17. I have previously purchased 2 hawgtech handles. They were both the straight handles with cork knobs and they looked great on my Cores. Recently, I received and email saying they now had swept handles. Obviously, my interest was piqued as I wanted longer handles for both my Chronarch D and Daiwa Zillion Crazy Cranker. Add in the new anodized parts in various colors boom, the tackle monkey needs something new. One email question later and email placed. Handle came in 2 days and uh oh, it doesn't fit my crazy cranker. Quick email confirms that I received the wrong handle. What did Hawgtech do? Offered to send me a new handle, pre-paid envelope and give me a deal on another handle if I was interested. Well for the right deal, you know I was. A few emails back and forth and boom, 2 handles on the way AND a free pair of the new ABEC 7 bearings for my trouble. What a deal. And the handles you say? Well see for yourself. They are SMOOTH looking and turning.
  18. Is it spooled with straight braid? If so it may be slipping because the Braid is smooth. Try tying backing and then attaching the braid
  19. Red eyes and xcalibur for me
  20. I had the Denny brauer version. It's heavy and solid and meant for one purpose. Holds very little line but when you hook one it isn't going anywhere. Mine had a problem with the flipping switch right out of the box but they fixed it. Ardents don't have the best reputation in terms of refinement and smoothness
  21. Drag pressure is a selling point IMO. I have flipped and frogged heavy pads with a zillion which only has about 8.8 lbs. Lots of great choices at that price point and I have owned most of them lol. Super Duty advantages are the longer handle, high capacity spool and brass gearing. I use this and a Zillion Type R Tournament MG a money reel. Long handle, smooth casting Curado E7 is a tough reel with large knobs and a set it and forget it braking system Generation 3 STX is light which may be a detriment for such a long rod as it won't balance. Short handle (80mm) I believe.
  22. I use a 4/0 straight shank with a 1/2 or 3/8 tungsten....My favorite creature/beaver/flipping bait hands down...
  23. Great rods for the price..the crankbait rod is a true medium moderate
  24. When I got into, I bought a rod of every length and action with every brand reel. As I found what I liked, I paired them down into what has worked for me.
  25. Some blanks are unsanded and rough in order to make the blank stronger. That's what those rings are. However the scratches appear to me to be just that, scratches. As was suggested, contact kistler with pictures
