  1. Pitching heavy cover....
  2. That's a steal...I have 3 of the salt Stryker Winn grip rods when they went on clearance. Great great rods. I also have a zx cranking rod and it's my go to for squarebills, chatterbaits and spinnerbaits
  3. Great company to order from no doubt
  4. Pit boss is my all time favorite flipping bait by far
  5. I use 12 for most all purpose stuff. I must not fill my spool enough cause I think it's just fine when casting. Never used line conditioner with it
  6. I've sound some good deals but that's a steal i got an original bps extreme (aluminum frame) and bps cranking stick combo for $12... A glx drop shot rod for $130 you beat it by a mile
  7. I'm not a fan of twing and not a fan of the frames. It's one simple thing, it's placement of the brake dial...it rubs exactly the wrong way on my hand. I was hoping the lack of twing would narrow the frame up front or recess the dial. Alas
  8. I have mostly high speeds. One 5.5:1 for deep cranks which I rarely throw and a few 6.3:1 for spinnerbaits, chatterbaits and shallow/squarebills. I like a medium retrieve for these as it keeps the baits down. Too fast on a spinnerbait or chatterbait and it goes too high in the water column. It's also easier lol Other than that, I like fast and furious.
  9. You're welcome...next deal http://m.gandermountain.com/search/aetos103051351?icID=cyber-week-30
  10. http://www.basspro.com/Abu-Garcia-Revo-MGX-Baitcast-Reel/product/11092205011628/?cm_sp=CybWkP1Dec2016_HMR great deal
  11. The only glass rod I have nowawadays is a medium heavy moderate for Square-bills. The river I mostly fish here has a lot of wood cover and I find myself getting caught up wayyyy less because of its forgiveness. I find I don't have to spend as much time being careful when cranking that type of cover if that makes sense. With the glass rod, I can just keep reeling and the lure will naturally deflect better then when I used a composite or graphite rod. It's probably more mental since I can just keep reeling with glass whereas with graphite I feel every Tick and nudge and tend to drive the lure into the wood more.
  12. I know Guys who do it..I have a very soft cranking rod and tried braid on it for Squarebills but got stuck too often. Even with the soft action the braid didn't bounce free like I wanted it to.
  13. d**n phone lolololol...touché.. social studies btw
  14. You're mom disagrees
  15. I know ardent doesn't have the best rep for their reels but I figured I would give them a shoutout for their awesome customer service. I recently purchased to apex reels from a friend who had obviously use them rough and hard. He thought they were done for as he had actually somehow managed to bind one them them completely to where the gears were locked when turning the handle. The other was just Geary. I called ardent and spoke to Mr. Thompsonabout paying for repairs and needed parts etc as I wasn't the original wonder and was told to send them in. I had also requested a set of 7.3:1 gears to upgrade an apex elite I had. Got a call yesterday that my reels were headed back 2 day ups. One reel was replaced fully free of charge, the only cleaned, lived and the gear set I requested was included. Total cost to me? Nada...all was free of charge. Remember, these were not my reels but ones which had been used hard. Service like That deserves notice.
  16. For cranks and huge swimbaits, I see it. I also see Marshall and co angler injuries lol. Expect to see a bunch of detachable handled bass rods in the future ala the shimano expride until the boat lockers catch up. as for me, no need as at most I'm gonna have a job boat lol
  17. Ha! I hear that, but who am I to judge considering what I've bought
  18. American legacy has them half off if you want an impulse buy lol
  19. Lews gas released several under 6 foot rods as of last ICAST. Many are pistol gripped for one handed casting
  20. I think it was a combination of the split grip and the squared off butt cap. Granted, this only comparing them in store next to each other. St croix now has several rods in the same price point so it certainly gives you options.
  21. I honestly prefer the old version. These seem clunkier to me... But for $60, why not
  22. The one is Raleigh had the xt (normally for $249) for $125 in store
  23. Yea it seems strange that at croix would load the market with so many equally priced rods.
  24. The prices are so wildly different it makes you wonder how they rate them. A 50 dollar reel in the same category as a $600 one?
  25. Don't be fooled. I bought the Winn tape and it is nice but it isn't anything like the Winn grip. Totally different texture we it don't have the grooves cut into it. When it comes to wrapping grips I still prefer tennis tape cause it's cheaper and feels more tactile to me then Winn tape.
