  1. I’ve saved hundreds of dollars by buying my batteries at WalMart. I’ve never had an issue with them.
  2. Very little stretch? That’s probably one of the biggest myths about fluoro. Some may stretch a little bit less than mono, but the difference is minimal. Some types stretch even more than mono. The worst part about that is that unlike mono, when you do stretch it, it doesn’t return to its original shape.
  3. Yeah, my pump will do 72 gallons a minute. It ran for 20 minutes out of every hour. That’s 1,440 gallons an hour, 24 hours a day for 30 days. That’s 1,036,800 gallons of water. And that was just for one month. Even after 10 weeks, the pump was still cycling continuously, but each cycle was longer than it was at the beginning. Plus, the drain line couldn’t handle the volume of water and had to be replaced as well.
  4. I favor the sling style fishing packs that are often used by fly fishermen. Goes over one shoulder and is swung to the front for access, and then around to the back and out of the way.
  5. I wish I’d have had some way to collect all the water that came out of my sump pump. This spring, we had so much rain the water table rose significantly. My sump pump cycled twice a minute for over a month before it started slowing down. My calculations show I pumped over 1 million gallons of water out during the month of April. When May-June came, I sure could have used some of that water in the garden and my lawn.
  6. The power race is nuts. How about this boat with 6! 400hp outboards on it. Thats around $300,000 just for the motors!
  7. My point was that anyone can chunk and wind. Just doing that doesn’t take any skill but doing it correctly, in the right place and time with accuracy does.
  8. It doesn’t take a lot of skill to chunk and wind baits along a shoreline. To me, the skill is knowing where and when to throw whatever bait you choose. People who criticize others for throwing live bait are just showing how little they really know about fishing.
  9. Backlashes have little to nothing to do with my using only braid. If you make a mistake, braid will backlash too, it’s just a different trying to fix it.
  10. I’ve had pike miss my top water bait so bad, they cut my line above the leader. Fortunately, it was a floating bait so I got it back. Pike, even small ones just destroy tackle. 100lb fluoro is overkill especially with lighter tackle. Pre-made, light wire leaders with quality hardware or even better, tieable wire leaders you make yourself are a much better choice.
  11. Aretha Franklin’s version of Otis Redding’s “Respect” has become one of the greatest R&B songs of all time Harry Nillsson made Badfinger’s “Without You” into a classic.
  12. If and when a wing nut becomes loose, it will get very hot under a load. Attempting to tighten it up will cause a nasty burn on your fingers
  13. Does the grass come up to the surface? I use lipless crank baits like Red Eye Shads over the top of submerged grass. You just have to find the speed to keep it close to the weed tops
  14. With the amount of current going through the connection, alligator clips are the least preferred way to hook up a motor.
  15. 50lb fluoro probably won’t stop bite offs. Musky guys who won’t use wire use 100lb fluoro. You can try using tie able wire in lightweight sizes. It’s a bit tricky to tie without getting pigtails but it works.
  16. I’m not aware of how it works. When the boat was seized, do the cheaters get any of the money from the auction? That boat cost close to $120,000 new. That’s a pretty hefty fine by itself, not including court costs and DNR fines.
  17. In Canada, it’s been said that the number 1 cause of drowning is guys falling overboard while peeing over the side of the boat. I can see how that might be an issue so I bought a “Johnny bottle”. It’s handy and the red color makes it hard to mistake it and use it for any other purpose.
  18. In addition to most of the rules already posted, No use of liquid scents.
  19. My wife and I started gardening 2 years ago. The back yard we started with 3 years ago was pretty much empty. Except for a 30’ round, above ground pool which I quickly got rid of. We’ve been busy since then, adding perennials, a couple trees and some raised beds.
  20. I’ve got a friend who built rods as a hobby and just wanted to try building one. For a while, he made all my rods so he made a spiral wrapped rod for me. I’ve always used it exactly like all my other rods.
  21. It’s been so long since I’ve used anything except straight braid, I’ve forgotten what the transition from mono was like. Short, light hooks sets are all that’s needed, and like has already been said, I use mostly lighter action rods, and never lock down my drag.
  22. Buoyant plastics and very light jig heads are two of the properties that make Ned rigs effective. Floating plastics slow down the fall and when used with mushroom head jigs, cause the baits to stand up when they hit the bottom.
  23. Did you just get the plastics and no jig heads?
  24. Straight braid on all my rods, baitcaster and spinning. I’ve never used any mono or fluorocarbon leaders. It’s not perfect (nothing is) but the drawbacks bother me much less than line that stretches or extra knots in my line.
  25. Riv-nuts will never hold up to the stress of a man rocking on a seat pedestal. Also, using stainless steel connected to aluminum will cause galvanic corrosion and causing another failure. You might have to consider cutting a hole to provide access to the under side where you can put bolts or screws through and get nuts on them.
