  1. He died like 20 years ago. Time to let it go.
  2. I store all my baits in 3600 and 3700 Plano boxes. I really like the spinner bait versions, they now fit in my tackle bags right along side the other boxes.
  3. As with most of the questions as to which is the "best". I think it's up to you to figure out which is best for YOU. You will get so many different opinions to your question that you won't figure out from the answers which is the best. I use light braid on a spinning rod for my jerkbaits and it works out best for me. Stay tuned for what works best for everybody else.
  4. If you own a newer Quantum spinning reel, you can't back reel. They no longer have the switch to turn off the anti-reverse.
  5. If there is a river running unto a reservoir, some water has to be released. Maybe not all the time, but if they did not release some water, it would eventually over flow the dam. In most cases, the reason the dam is there in the first place is for power generation. You have to release water through the turbines to make electricity.
  6. Interesting signature you got there.
  7. What's a river lake? A river that has been damed will form a lake behind the dam also known as a reservoir, but I never heard of a river lake
  8. What a good dad.
  9. I never worry about abrasion on my line fishing suspending jerkbaits because they almost never get near the bottom.
  10. Funny series. www.http://comediansincarsgettingcoffee.com
  11. KVD said he uses flouro for jerkbaits because it has low stretch. Huh? The best tournament bass fisherman says flouro has low stretch? That information does not match what testing has shown. Does he really believe that? I agree that low stretch is important which is why I use braid and it works very well for me. Maybe the amount of stretch or even what kind of line you use really doesn't matter too much.
  12. You can't do that! Don't you know trout are line shy and would never bite that? HA!
  13. I say you don't really need a leader at all. Why do you think you need one?
  14. I used to do do fly-in trips to Canada and took depth finders with us that we turned into portables. We mounted the transducer on a piece of 1x2 board that we secured to the transom with a C-clamp. I bought a cheap tackle box that was large enough to hold a small 12v rechargeable battery, the depthfinder and transducer. The top of the tackle box was flat and I drilled a few holes to mount the bracket for the unit. I used screws with wing nuts so I could easily remove the bracket and put everything inside the box for travel. I only spent a few dollars and was able to use a depthfinder I liked and already knew how to use.
  15. Don't let the smallish hooks keep you from fishing them. Many times, bass will just smash into a bait to stun it before they eat it which may be why you did not hook up. Trust me, even with huge hooks, you won't get every fish that takes a swipe at your bait. Those floating Rapalas have caught more fish than any other single lure in history. Give them another try with the original hooks. Just make sure they are sharp. I catch a lot of bass on lures with #8 hooks. If a fish gets a bait with sharp hooks inside his mouth, the hook size should not be much of an issue.
  16. Up here in the frozen part of the country, I spend a few hours each evening in front of the TV. My favorite show on TV has to be The Big Bang Theory. Very funny, and well written. Along with Barney Fife and Ed Norton, Sheldon Cooper has to be one of the best characters that's ever been on a comedy. In dramas, Elementary, the modern day Sherlock Holmes series is really good and I like Mad Men (when it's on). In reality shows, I like American Pickers which is funny because I'm not a collector and I don't care anything about antiques but they are nice guys who buy "guy" stuff. The only fishing show I record is one that is probably only seen in the upper midwest. John Gillespies Waters and Woods. John gets over the top excited when someone gets a good fish which annoys a lot of viewers, but John puts out a new show every week. He films at locations mostly around Wisconsin during the week using local guides, edits it and has it on the air that Saturday. Mostly ice fishing during the winter, but he fishes a lot of the same waters I do for whatever is biting that week. What shows do you make sure not to miss?
  17. When I'm not robbing banks, I'm a service technician for Hobart Corp. I also volunteer my time for the Illinois Smallmouth Alliance where I'm the treasurer, membership director for our 400 members, forum moderator/administrator, executive officer and I published our newsletter for 10 years.
  18. Another thing to consider when comparing boats is the trailer they come on. Most boats spend more time on the trailer than on the water and a trailer that breaks down will leave you stranded on the side of the road. A friend bought a new Lowe boat a couple of years ago and has had nothing but trouble with the trailer!. Cheap tires that had to be replaced after 1 year, guides that broke off, lights and wiring caused problems, trim pieces falling off and the winch broke. I've had my Ranger boat and trailer for 25 years and have never had to do any repairs. Haven't even changed a light bulb. Don't over look the quality of the trailer.
  19. Depends on the weather. The real pre-spawn activity begins in the northern states when the water temps get up around 50.
  20. Unlike others who posted here I won't use Terminator titanium baits. It's true, the arms won't get bent but they will break. I spent a lot for them and used them on pike who broke the arms off every one I had.
  21. I use 20 pound Suffix 832. Never had a need for anything heavier. I've never had it dig in but I also don't lock down my drag. I like the increased casting distance I get with thinner lines. For me, one of the advantages of braid over mono is how thin it is. Using heavy braid gives up that advantage. On my musky rods where I throw bigger, heavier baits, I use 65 pound braid. I also don't see a lot of heavy slop/weeds in my lakes which is another reason I get away with lighter line.
  22. I plead the 5th
  23. I wish that were the truth. It CAN be simple, it doesn't HAVE to be complicated, but it doesn't mean they WILL bite!
  24. For pre-spawn smallies I found smaller sizes work better for me. Lucky Craft size 65 &78 and #8 X Raps. Early in the year, the forage is small and smaller baits got me more fish. Color doesn't seem to matter, except sometimes it does. When it doesn't matter, everything caught em. When it did matter, only LC Pointer 65's in Chartreuse shad worked. Good luck finding those in your local tackle shop. Oh, and clown color X-Raps too. On your waters, a different color or size might work better. You'll have to fish it and find out.
