  1. That bass may have picked up a worm that was tossed off your hook by another bass in just the last few hours or days.
  2. I use 10 pound braid on all my spinning gear. I thought my line was breaking too. After examining the line, I saw my knots were still intact. I was using hooks that had a gap in the eye that allowed the thin braid to slip out. I make sure the eyes are closed on my hooks now.
  3. What kind of lures is this happening with? Are you using the same amount of force when you set the hook with braid as you do when using mono?
  4. Not for me it's not. There is no such thing. The "best" all around line changes for each situation. There are too many different places and many ways to fish for bass for any one line to work well in all of them. If you want a good all around line for YOU to use, tell us where you will be fishing, how you like to fish and what kind of equipment you will be using
  5. Not interested in driving to pick it up yourself?
  6. The Lakelands? You are that close to the DuPage River and not fishing it?
  7. I use 20lb Suffix 832 and have never had an issue with the line digging in. I never wound it overly tight. I've been using the same line for 2 seasons now. I don't lock down my drag but I also don't use the reel to pull out snags.
  8. After the motor stalls after 30 seconds, does it start right back up? What's the longest you've let it run? My older Mercury doesn't like to stay running after it has set for several months over the winter. It usually takes a few minutes for it to keep running without having to choke it.
  9. The Garmins have 17,000 maps built into the units. Most of them show 1 foot contour lines. If the lakes you fish are pretty small, say under 100 acres, there may not be any maps available. The good news is that the echoMap series comes with a program that lets you create your own high definition maps for any lake you fish so even if it doesn't come preloaded, you can make a very accurate map for every lake you fish.
  10. I bought my boat brand new. Never did any research. That was back in 1988. It was more difficult to do research without the internet. I saw a different boat at a boat show and put money down. I was on my way out of the show when I saw the Ranger booth. I went and got my money back and bought the Ranger. I still have the same boat today. I never really saw a boat I wanted more than the one I have. At least I didn't want another boat bad enough to spend a lot more money on.
  11. Did you watch the video? Mike Rowe emphasized that there are a lot of college graduates looking for a limited number of jobs while there are millions of jobs going unfilled because the degree did not give them the skills needed. Getting a college education was not the point of his remarks. Don't follow your passion, but bring it with you when you get the opportunity.
  12. Take a look at this video.
  13. I use 10 pound test on my spinning reels and 20 pound test on my baitcasters. Many guys have trouble with 20lb on baitcasters because thinner line it can dig in and jam up. But if you don't lock down your drag or try to pull out snags using the reel, you don't have to have any problems. Braid is more expensive than mono, but for me it lasts many times longer so in the long run it's cheaper to use. The diameter comparison to mono doesn't matter to me because I don't use mono so how it compares size wise is irrelevant.
  14. My opinion is contrary to many but I've been using braid for many years and have never used any kind of leader except steel when pike fishing. I ALWAYS tie directly to my lure. Using a leader is always an option, but not required. The lack of stretch is to me it's best feature but for some it takes a little getting used to. Braided line is very strong and because it is much thinner and softer than mono, it casts much better.
  15. There are a bunch of YouTube videos of guys showing you how to change water pumps. I did mine after watching some of the videos. Here's one;
  16. How can you tell they were female? Aside from during the spawn when females are full of eggs, how is it possible to tell the sexes apart, especially if they are still under water?
  17. Lockett's deal is a quick way for them to sell a lot of product in one shot. Have you noticed how many tackle stores have gone out of business in the last several years? Lot's of competition and low profit margins means turning a big enough profit to keep the doors open is a challenge. Having your own business is great and your chance to make it big. Having a tackle business may not be the key to that success. You would increase your chances to succeed if you can find something different to sell.
  18. I used the S shaped post for several years but over time, the pins bend. I now use an offset mount from Swivel-eeze that has been working very well. I do need to sit while up front and I like the extra room the off set seat gives me.
  19. I too have a personal pontoon. I use mine 99% of the time on rivers though. In shallow water, I just put my feet on the bottom to hold myself in place or I just stand up. While not shown in this picture, I use a depth finder also. One thing I don't like about the Classic Accessories boat that you have is that the foot pegs are so close together, I don't see how you get in the boat. I also lead the fish I catch between my legs. With almost no gap there, it must be hard to land fish. I'd take the rubber grips off and cut back the foot pegs. Other than that, I fish the same places I'd fish out of any other boat. I seldom sight fish even when in my regular boat. Usually, If I can see the fish, they can see me so I try and cast to other targets. The pontoon should make very little difference in your fishing
  20. Those are brown trout.
  21. Wading in lakes can be dangerous. You can sink in mud like quicksand and not get yourself out. Drop offs can surprise you and fill those waders quickly. Wear a life jacket while wading in a lake.
  22. I had it a year ago. It took about 7 months to heal. There really are no quick cures. Check with your doctor. Mine suggested a cortisone shot. Even with insurance, the cost would have been about $300 with no guarantees. The shots may work for a few weeks, a few months or not at all.
  23. Go here.
  24. I have no idea. I just Googled canoe carrier. I looked it up again. Here is the link from Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Malone-Auto-Racks-Universal-50-Inch/dp/B002VG2JDM/ref=lp_491441011_1_14/184-6206117-3172235?s=outdoor-recreation&ie=UTF8&qid=1466473051&sr=1-14
  25. You can use cross pieces as wide as needed with a setup like this
