  1. I've got that book. I admit I haven't looked at in years. I got it passed down to me after my father passed away over 30 years ago. I also got a copy of the In-Fisherman book from him, "Largemouth Bass Handbook of Stategies" which was autographed by all the original authors including Al and Ron Lindner.
  2. You know, a regular, old school, compass that mounts on your dash is not an expensive item.
  3. I've made several leaders from this same wire. You can tie knots with it but it kinks easily and your leaders can look more like pigs tails if you are not careful in the way you tie. To keep the leaders as light as possible, I tied a small, oval split ring on one end, and a loop on the other. I attached the looped end to my lure, and tied the split ring to my line. For plastics, I tied the leader wire right to some wide gap hooks and jigs while still putting a split ring on the other end. I used them with good results on jerkbaits. Even with the light leader, the jerkbaits sank a lot faster, but they still caught bass and pike and I never got bit off. I was having pike inhale my Senkos. I almost never landed a pike on a Senko until I started using the leaders.
  4. Guys who use flouro leaders instead of steel, typically use 100 lb test for the leaders. Anything you can easily cut with a scissors, can be cut by a pike.
  5. If a company puts 2 bags of plastics next to each other, one loaded with salt and one without, the one loaded with salt will outsell the one without. It has nothing to do with the baits ability to catch fish.
  6. If you are asking me, I have no idea. I found out what it was by looking up reel seats on google.
  7. It's a Seaguide SCXSS
  8. if you hook it up to a fully charged battery, does the problem go away?
  9. Ha! You're going to knock a guy because he has sponsors? Johnsonville is a sponsor and they eat sausage during a commercial. Big deal. Yeah, he can get loud, but he produces a new show EVERY week. He films on Tuesday and Wednesday and the show is on the air on Saturday. He fishes many of the same waters I fish with guys I know. Nobody has a show that is as fresh because they were all done just a few days ago.
  10. If you find some, let me know. I need them too.
  11. John Gillespie's Waters and Woods.
  12. Can you easily cut cxx with a knife? If so, a pickerel can easily cut it too.
  13. I use a sling pack that goes over one shoulder and swings out behind you while fishing. No waterproof boxes needed. Cabelas has some great deals on William Joseph chest packs right now. If you are one of those who has to bring everything you own while wading, put a board across an inner tube, stack your stuff on it and drag it behind you.
  14. 1. I absolutely refuse to make fishing complicated. 2. All braid, all the time 3. I wont use flouro or mono leaders. (See rule 1 above) 4. No tournament fishing. 5. If it ain't fun, pack up and go home.
  15. If the bilge pump runs but just makes an unusual noise, it could easily have a foreign object like a piece of a plastic worm or a stick caught in the pump.
  16. I can only add that I too have to sit as much or more than I stand and I also fish all my topwaters both standing and sitting.
  17. I assume you are bank fishing? My preference is to carry A LOT less gear. One small box with a few hooks, a few packs of plastics a couple topwaters and 2 or 3 other baits and it all fits in a small sling pack. You never use everything you are bringing now, why bring even more?
  18. Most smartphone screens can be difficult to see outdoors in bright sunlight. Before I invested anything to do with using one for a depthfinder, I'd make sure you could use it outdoors with no problem.
  19. If you contact St. Croix and give them the model number, they can tell you when it was made and how much it sold for. It is probably not comparable to today's rods. The technology has improved quite a bit over the years.
  20. Another thing the attractant will do, when the zip lock bags leak, is make your fanny pack smell really bad.
  21. The length of the rod doesn't matter. What is the power of the rod? Light, medium, medium heavy? You could probably break any rod if you handle the fish poorly. Use line rated for the rod and don't horse the fish in or try and lift it out out of the water with the rod. If the tackle is too light for the strength of the fish, he'll break the line before the rod breaks.
  22. When you tested the batteries, did you disconnect the wires going to the other two batteries first? Did you test at the end of the day before you plugged in your charger or right after you finished charging?
  23. None of the TRDs I bought have any salt on them. Did you get some with salt? The zinker z baits are salted.
  24. Exactly how close to the pylon is "toward"? Your jig or wacky worm should have been drifted right up against the concrete, as close as you can get it. The area immediately down stream of the pylon where the water swirls forming an eddy is also a prime spot. Where the faster current is moving past the "calm spot" is called a break line and the fish will hang out just on the calm side of the break usually facing upstream. If you are randomly casting the open water, in a river, you won't get a lot of bites. It takes a lot of energy for a bass to hold himself in current so they often sit in the calm area right behind a rock, log or bridge piling. Always look for the calm spot, also known as an eddy, as close to faster moving water as you can find. If deeper water is nearby, that makes the spot that much better.
