  1. Just had a new idea to maybe solve my problem maybe you guys could solve: Since storage of my boat is a problem and the onboard charger is the best way to maximize battery life and maintain a charged battery for the off season. I was thinking about purchasing a onboard charger but mounting it to a wood storage area that will also serve as a rack for my battery in my garage. Thus taking the "onboard" out of the equasion, hahaha... ;D. Is this logical? I look at it this way, the only difference between a portable vs. an onboard charge is that the onboard is convenient and an easy way to not have to unload the battery every time it needs a charge. Does anyone have an opinion on this matter, and what are the pros and cons of this idea.
  2. Silly question, do bass eat other bass and walleye? Reason I ask is I was looking over lure/baits this year and saw a couple nice bass and walleye patterns and wondering if they would produce or use them in my muskie arsenal?
  3. Hey fellas, I recently purchased a Minn Kota PowerDrive 55 and need to charge my battery. I store my boat in my backyard and it's too long to run an extension cord to the boat. I was thinking about getting an onboard charger and make soem type of quick release mounting baracket so I could remove it when fishing and store it in the garage. I really like the idea of the onboard chargers that maintain a charge to keep it at peek condition, so do portable chargers do the same thing? Oh, I guss the size of battery might help, it is a 12Volt. I wanted to see what everyone does and maybe some of you guys use both, just looking for some feedback.
  4. Hey rattle do you have any pics of what yours looked like in construction or any pics for that matter? Any ideas would be great, I would love to have as many visual aids that I can get.
  5. Hey yinz guys, I'm from Monaca in Beaver County. I fish all around mostly the Ohio and Beaver rivers along with lakes like Arthur and Wilhelm.
  6. All I really need to do befor the season starts is mount a deck for the trolling motors and anchor system. Any ideas? i want to have the strogest deck so I dont mess anything up during trailering and rough conditions.
  7. Hey guys whats up, recently took some pics of my boat and want to get everyones input before I get started. The boat is a MirroCraft 14' Deep-V with a Evenrude 25 and Johnson 9.5. I recently purchased a Minn Kota Power Drive 55# 54" shaft. As you can see in the pictures, the boat has ben modified with floors and other simple improvements, but my main goal is to take it to the next level. I want to a casting deck from the front seat on, so I can mount my newly purchased Minn Kota PD 55# 54" shaft and a new anchor system. In no way am I trying to pimp out my Deep-V, I only want to create a more pleasurable fishing experience that will allow me to concentrate on fishing not the boat. I want to keep the project affordable (would like to stay in the $200-250 range) and be more user friendly. What material should I use and I would like to avoid drilling into the hull of the boat. Any ideas sure would help. http://www.shareaproject.com/pages/projectThumbs,p,200,00.html
  8. Yeah I will be putting on a casting deck, I am not trying to turn my boat into some wanna be tracker, but my main goal is to stay light as possible. Wether I use alum, wood, or pvc pipe which would make alot of sense and make it somewhat cost effective, along with most of all give me a user friendly boat that isnt a pain in the *** to move around in. My first goal is to create a bow mount for my trolling and anchoring system and then move on with the small casting deck. I mainly want to know about the anchoring set up wether I should use two or three? thanks
  9. I have a MirroCraft 14" Alum. deep-v that was bought used (pics will be up soon) and I am looking to modify it in some regaurds. Before the season I am going to purchase a new bow mount trolling motor and need to install a mounting platform. I want to know what would be the best way to go about it. I figured that i might as well replace the anchor system too. I currently have two of them; on for the front and rear of the boat. They are the Anchormate, these are only recommended with weight of 12lbs. I plan to do mostly lake and river in probably all conditions so I need something that is going to stand up to the current. 1) What should I used for my decking, how thick? 2) What type of anchor is best (river or navy)? 3) Should I continue using two only upgrading the front to a higher weight and keeping the back one for extra hold? 4) Is there any pro and cons to having one or two anchors and which should be the better anchor? 5)The anchormate II is about $74 at Cabela, was just wondering if I can find one cheaper or maybe a better brand, but these are the only ones i have found? Sorry for all the questions, but I want to do my research so I dont second guess myself and ruin a day at the lake. Any help would be great.[edit][edit][edit][edit][/edit][/edit][/edit][/edit]
  10. I am in a position similar to yours, except I have a 14" deep-V. When I bought my boat, it came with a MK Endura 40 with a 40'shaft. When the water gets rough the prop comes out of the water which creates a real pain in I disagree. So I decided to go with the MK PD 55 w/universal sonar and a 54" shaft. I spoke in person with a saleman at Cabela's and we talked this issue real hard. My biggest thing was I didnt want to have too much shaft not being able to go in the shallows, and too little that it comes out. The 55 comes with in two models, one with a 48" shaft and 54", the 54 is only $10 more for 6 more inches. The only thing is that if you are fishing shallows and you only need a little bit of shaft, you are gonna have more hanging at the top of the boat. The only problem that this creates is that it looks kind of silly, but other than that you are gonna have alot more shaft in choppy water but yo will also get to laugh at the guy who doesnt have enough. Happy trail, sorry it was so long, hope it helps.
  11. Ride before you buy and take someone with you who knows a little bit and have your friend talk shop for you.
