  1. I mean I guess one last thing....I skip a lot of my lures on the river under trees and cover...I think that maybe the Alien head will just be a better overall jighead for what I need and then having the Flip & Swim Jig to cover the grass and thick cover...I figure that should cover everything...am I wrong? I am thinking of maybe getting 3/8 oz and 1/2 oz for the Black Series and maybe just the 1/2 oz for the Flip & Pitch...??
  2. More and more people have told me this...I might just try straight braid and see how it works for everything...or a hybrid line...
  3. Will braid work well for all types of lures?? (Texas Rig, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, etc)??
  4. Yea maybe I will do that if I have time!
  5. Hahaha....Oh man...Alright well I have established I am getting 3 Flip & Swim Jigs...3/8 ounce or 1/2 ounce (haven't decided which). The Flip&Swim jigs should cover the grassy areas. I guess it is between football or the alien style heads...either way I will make sure to get both 3/8 and 1/2 ounce jigs for those.
  6. I guess I could try braid?? I didn't know braid was a good all around line
  7. Alright...well at this point I may just get 3 different colors of the Original Black Series in 3/8 and 1/2 ounce and 3 colors of the Flip & Swim...or the Hair Jig...haven't decided between those two yet.
  8. The only thing is I only have one baitcaster...so I need line that will work well for everything, not just jigs
  9. I chose 3 colors (what was mentioned above) in the Football Black Series and 2 or 3 colors in the Flip & Swim. So far the river doesn't seem to be too rocky where I have been fishing, so maybe the Original Black Series and Flip & Swim (or the Hair Jigs) would be a better combo??? I do A LOT of skipping under trees, so maybe you are right, maybe I should switch the football heads out for the original Black Series... Do you think it is worth getting both 3/8 ounce and 1/2 ounce in each of these colors or just like 3/8 ounce??
  10. Alright I will get a black and blue with a blue rage craw trailer! Hope it works!!
  11. I am worried black and blue would be an odd color for the Verde River...maybe I am wrong as I have never thrown anything of that color, I just have always had luck on the more natural colors.
  12. I think I will do this..I will get the football head in 3/8 and 1/2 ounce in a 3 or 4 colors and then maybe a pitch and swim jig.
  13. As of now I have the Black Series Football AND Original in 3/8 and 1/2 in Frogger and Brown Craw. Total of 8 jigs. Still deciding if I want to add another color or a different style of jig...
  14. Well maybe I will experiment with some different line...I am going to get some good jigs from Northstar as well. Going to place an order in the next few hours!
  15. I am really thinking about just going with the arky head over the football head...I don't think I am fishing rocky enough bottom to justify getting both arky and football....but if the arky is not good in rocks at all then maybe I should get both...just trying to limit the cost I guess.
  16. I am going to Bass Pro this weekend and I may pick up some hybrid line, see how it works. You guys talking about this stuff?? http://yo-zuri.com/OnlineStore/Classic_Lures/Fishing_Line/Yo-Zuri_Hybrid_Line. What about this P-line?? http://www.basspro.com/PLine-CX-Premium-Fishing-Line-300-Yards/product/8602/
  17. The issue is I have one setup...a 7' MH St. Croix Triumph with a Daiwa Aird baitcasting reel. I don't have the money as a college student to have several rods and reels for every type of fishing so I have to do with one setup. I figured monofilment would be best for fishing a bit of everything...(topwater, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, jigs, trig, carolina rig, frogs, everything you can think of...the list goes on). If there is line that would fish everything better then I will switch! I may try some hybrid line...
  18. Nothing too thick! Alright well I will get some 3/8 and 1/2 ounce in the Black Series Football, Black Series, Flip & Swim, and 1 or 2 Hair Jigs!
  19. Alright...well I don't want to get too carried away. I forgot to mention there is a good amount of wood cover...let's just say there is a little of everything on this river! I think a few of the Black Series and Black Series Football, and Flip & Swim would be good. Maybe 1 or 2 of the Hair jigs. Picking one weight would save me some cash and allow me to get more colors, etc...but do you think it would be better to get both 3/8 and 1/2 ounce or just one or the other?? I don't fish the really strong current areas. Thanks for all your help so far! Keep in mind these will all be fished with a baitcaster on a 7' MH St. Croix Triumph Rod and 12lb mono.
  20. Alright thanks guys, I guess I will stick with this mono then!
  21. Alright so far I am thinking Black Series Football, Original Black Series, and Flip & Swim....I am thinking some in 1/2 ounce and 3/8 ounce (although it would be nicer on my wallet to stick with ONE size)?? That good for my type of fishing? There are a TON of reeds to pitch into along the river as well...will any of these three jigs work good for this?
  22. Sounds great guys, I think I may order some of the Black Series jigs in 3/8 and 1/2 ounce. I didn't know that the Rage Craw makes a good trailer! I figured they were too big for that, but I will give them a shot! I am going to do a bit more research and wait for some more feedback...maybe I will get a few football Black series, normal Black series, and maybe some flip & swim...or maybe I will just buy them all and spend money I don't have!!! Just kidding...
  23. Hey guys I have a 7' St Croix Triumph Medium Heavy Rod and a Daiwa Aird baitcasting reel. I have a rod and spinning reel for dropshotting only and I use Fluorocarbon on that of course. Anyways, as you can see my baitcaster is my setup for everything other than dropshotting (topwater, jigs, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, texas rig, carolina rig, the list goes on....). Currently I have been using 12 lb monofilament, but was wondering if there is something better for all around use? Maybe like a hybrid line? I would have multiple baitcasters and rods for different types of use, but I am a college student and can't do that.
  24. Yea maybe I just need to wait a second longer and set the hook harder...I think I may get some Seibert or Northstar jigs. I'm guessing the hooks are probably better quality.
  25. Intro: I am thinking about ordering some jigs from Northstar or Siebert (although I would hate to wait 2 weeks for the Northstar jigs) and I am trying to figure out which jig type and weight would be best for me. Also some good trailers would be good. I think I have a general idea of good colors that will work. Fishing Coverage/Bottom Types/Colors: I do fish smaller lakes and reservoirs/ponds on my Pond Prowler, but I LOVE fishing the Verde River on my Pond Prowler and that is where I mostly fish. The river is usually no more than 4-6 feet deep and has a variety of both rocks, mud, and occasionally some grass/weeds on the bottom (mostly rocks and sand/mud). There is of course some current, more in some areas than others. The bass were annihilating my Green Pumpkin and Crawfish color Rage Tail Craws - Texas Rigged. My thoughts: I was thinking either 3/8 ounce or 1/2 ounce would work well? Jig head type I am not sure of? Your thoughts: 1. What type of jig? 2. What weight? 3. Any recommendations for Northstar or Siebert? 4. Trailer recommendations? 5. Do you modify the Northstar or Siebert jigs? (Skirt length, Weed guard, etc) If you could answer all these questions, it would be GREATLY appreciated!
