  1. Thanks for the info on the reels. So you’d go with a heavy rod for deeper cranks?
  2. Honestly I’m fairly new to crankbaits believe it or not. Right now I’ve got a lot of smaller square bills and some KVD 3XDs (10-12 feet). I’d prefer not to buy a bunch of different rods just to fish different crankbaits. This starts getting a bit out of control and out of budget pretty quick. Regarding the reel it sounds like you want a 5-6 ratio reel and avoid the 7+ ratios?
  3. Hey guys, I'd like to get a rod and reel that are dedicated to crankbaits, preferably in the $200-$250 range. Seems like most people recommend a 7'+ Medium OR Medium Heavy. I was thinking maybe a Dobyn's Fury 705CB (this is a 7' Medium Heavy) or St Croix Mojo Bass Glass Crankbait Rod (7'2" Medium). I've already got an Abu Garcia Vendetta Medium Heavy - not sure if that would be too much overlap with the Dobyn's Fury. Really don't have any reels in mind (maybe a Shimano SLX?). Thanks!
  4. Gotcha - any specific VMC? I’ll definitely get the Mustad Edge Finesse for straight shank. I guess I could go with the Gamakatsu Round Bends as well.
  5. Thanks! The Big Bite is completely sold out almost everywhere unfortunately
  6. Yea I totally get it. I’m not in a rush to get a graph at this point.
  7. Thanks - I saw your name on a lot of older posts regarding the same topic. I’m going to order some straight shank and offset RBs. Would 2/0-5/0 be a good place to start for both? Any specific recommendations for straight and offset hooks? Looks like a lot of the straight shanks are “flippin” hooks made for heavy cover. My guess is you want something with a bait keeper on it too so it doesn’t slide down the shank
  8. Thanks I really appreciate the feedback
  9. I'll start off by saying that I am a beginner/novice bass angler...I don't want to make this overly complicated, but the more I research, the more I'm thinking I should have some Offset RBs and Straight Shanks. I've always used EWG hooks (Texas Rig, Carolina Rig, etc). I currently have 2/0-5/0 sizes which seems to cover everything (I don't think I've ever used the 2/0 size). I'm thinking I ought to add some Offset Roundbend and Straight Shank hooks to my tacklebox in the same sizes (2/0-5/0). What do you guys think? Should I branch out from the EWG hooks? Thanks!
  10. Thanks yea that Lowrance on the console would be a nice upgrade from the Lowrance Hook 3x that is currently mounted. Then a Garmin 93SV up front on a Versatrack mount. Debating between Garmin and a Hummingbird Helix unit...Hummingbird units are a bit more though.
  11. Thanks I ordered all 3 just in case - 1/8, 3/16, 1/4
  12. I do a ton of Dropshot fishing, but really want to try some Shakey Head fishing. I'm going to pick up some MegaStrike Pro Series Shakey Heads and planned to pick up 1/8, 3/16, and 1/4 ounce Shakey Heads. Is this a good place to start? A lot of our lakes here in AZ get pretty deep fairly fast and it seems like a lot of the larger bass are in 10+ feet of water in the summer. Do I need to go any larger than 1/4 ounce? Thanks!
  13. Hey guys, I do a lot of Dropshot fishing, but would like to start adding Wacky Rig into the mix. My current rig is a "budget" setup and I'd like to upgrade a bit. A few questions: 1. Do I need two different rods for Dropshot and Wacky Rig or can I fish them on the same rig effectively? 2. Would you recommend Medium Light or Medium Power? Fast or Extra Fast Action? 3. What length? 4. Rod recommendations? St Croix Mojo Bass, iROD Genesis II, etc... 5. Reel recommendations? Leaves me with about $100 to spend on a reel - Abu Garcia Revo X, Pfleuger President XT, Shimano NASCI, etc... 6. Reel gear ratio? Thanks!
  14. Ahh your right. It is actually only a 2 pin
  15. Yea sorry should have specified - I am adding 15 lb flouro leader Okay I ordered some 30 lb as well since that seems like the general consensus...
  16. Thanks I will check. I suppose a 2 pin anchor light does not work in a 3 pin mount right?
  17. I went with a compromise and went with 40lb.
  18. I've got a 2018 Tracker Pro 160. It has a 3 pin base on the rear for the white navigation light pole. The light is way taller than it needs to be and really impedes the ability to fish on the rear deck at night. Problem is...I can't seem to find any shorter 3 pin navigation light poles anywhere? There are quite a few options for 2 pin options. LED would be preferred. Any suggestions?
  19. haha...decisions decisions...
  20. Thanks maybe I will go with the 30lb braid then!
  21. Hey I'm new to all this...what do I know...
  22. I've got one baitcaster - this is my "do it all" rig (Crankbaits, Texas Rig, Carolina Rig, Spinnerbaits, Jigs, etc). Trying to decide between 40 lb or 50 lb Sufix 832.
  23. To be honest, if I did a lot of top water fishing where I was tying directly to braid, I would just buy a separate rod and reel for that. Would you guys say 40lb or 50lb braid for the baitcaster? Think I am going to go for Sufix 832. I really like the Lime Green color lol.
  24. Thanks guys. Very helpful. I think I'm going to start with 15 lb braid and 8lb leader for the dropshot setup. Will the braid prevent the dropshot from sinking though? Even with a 6 foot leader or so, it seems like that braid might affect that? I will get some 50 lb braid and 15 lb leader for my baitcaster. Does color matter? Thinking about just getting high vis yellow or lime
