  1. Cal delta, late sixties, fishing for stripers with sardines. Casted out and had a sea gull grab it in mid air. Quite the fight untill I tried to take the hook out. Ended cutting the line.
  2. My rules are simple, NO BOOZE - NO DOPE!!! I stand by these and I'll dump you off right on the spot if you dis-obey either of them! Other than that, common sence and good sportmanship always apply. I love these so-called "pros" the new kids with daddy's $$$, a big payment, and a "sponsership jersey"! Me, I'll take my 16 yr. old Skeeter & my 14 yr. old Chevy truck! NO PAYMENTS!
  3. Haven't forgotten you, still waiting for info. Things have been a little crazy around here lately. It's jig fishing season right now for all three basses and I've made some 2,000 in the last 3 weeks? hang in there!
  4. I sell alot of jigs to the delta stores and right now it's these colors that are working; spring craw - g.p./red/org. Black/ blue, Black/red Brn./purple Black/brn./red Trailers depend on what you like, most will work. Head styles: Poison = 3/8,1/2,&3/4 - Football = 3/8, 1/2 - Hook = 5/0 round shank. you can try other types of hook but I think you'll find the round shank to be the best. The water is starting to warm up do to the hotter weather and their no letting much out of the damns. Stay on the upper delta areas (Franks tract up to and pass Stockton on the San Jauquin side, and above Rio Vista on the Sac River. Their having big problems with the sea lions around discovery bay area and mouth of San Jauquin. Punching a 3/4 or 1 oz. poison head works very well in the milfoil & coon tail grasses with out the big exspence of the entire rig. Half the price with better results. Good luck, Bruce
  5. Great question and thanks for all the info. After 34 yrs. in const. and some 50+ yrs. on the water, I've been looking into a good sunscreen that didn't affect the fish. I also read the studies about how it did affect bass and I'm glad to hear the "other side of the story" Thanks again, I'll do some more research on sunscreens.
  6. South-west would be St. George area and there's 4 or 5 lakes near there. North-east would be Green river smallies, and Bear lake. I've fished the Green river, big small mouth in fast water. Your best bet is by river raft and fish ALL the holes and forget those dink slimey sides! I did a 3 day trip with a guide some 10 yrs. ago and still brag about it! BIG, I MEAN BIG SMALL MOUTH! Don't pass it by!
  7. Going this summer also. I'll have some info in the next few weeks. I've got a buddy that fished it several times and knows it quite well. Hang in there and I'll be glad to give all info I can muster.
  8. Check with Lure craft.com They have what your looking to do. I don't think your idea will work. Reason is you've got to get the bait out of the mold once it cools.
  9. Tried do-it and seaworth with no luck. We're just going to go with blanks from do-it and make our own. I looked at sluggo;s and they used 2 different sizes of ring shank nails. I can see where the panel nails will work as well. Out here were dealing with 30' to 40' in the lakes, and delta currents. Thanks for the replies.
  10. Thanks for the ideas guys. I'm looking for the molds for the sale of the weights. My stores on the Cal-delta are asking for them. Was hoping someone would have an idea of where I could find them?
  11. I'm looking for the molds for nail weights used in Senkos. Any ideas? need help finding them.
  12. Call Clear lake outdoors, Troy & Dave are on top of every thing on the lake. First you'll have to get your boat inspected ($10 - $12 ) Clear lake outdoors ph. # 707-262-5852, open 7am till 6 pm.
  13. Heading out again tomorrow, was going today but 30 mph winds with 45 gusts don't sound like a good fishing day! Not at least by yourself. Will give a full report on Oroville tomorrow night. Should be great fishing!
  14. 3 different colors, black/blue, black/char., or green pumpkin/red flake. Head styles, brush or poison. Both are great in your area. Don't forget rattles!
  15. Don't really count, but I'd say in the 400's, Reminder, Calif. + Lake Oroville spots = a bunch of bass each trip! Now that it's spring and low 80's air temps the bite is getting much better. Get ready for 100+ fish days for the next couple months.
  16. Size and numbers are nice, but another day on the water is where it's at for me. Get back home, unhook the boat, grab a beer and do a look thru what's left. Then start to replace what I've lost. I make the jigs and heads myself and make a phone call for the plastics. Get ready for the next trip. Oh yea, grab another beer or two.
  17. To all, these lakes (all four) will be in pre- spawn to spawn period and we will be fishing for small mouth and also N. strain large mouth. Anything from 6# to #20 lb. test and from finesse worms & jigs to flippin' & pitchin'. ENJOY!!!
  18. Glades, please P.M. me for info. Like I said, great food, good booze, and a bunch of old farts lying to each other about "the one that got away" I'm sure you'll have a great time. It's going to be during the week as to avoid the weekenders traffic. Alamanor, Butt, Walker, or Antilope lakes.or a combo. of some.
  19. Also try living rubber.com or Barlows, lurecraft, skirts plus, or janscraft.
  20. On the Cal-delta putting 150 mile into a tourney is not uncommon, doing it all in one run? 50 miles in a run I've done from Russo's to lower old river is a common run for some.
  21. Got me a little confused also? Called a friend who has a 200 on his triton and he told me a 25 should do the trick, 20' boat, 12" jack plate, 200 h.p. The Yamaha book says a 25 pitch - 15 1/8 diameter should do? Going to Redding (N. Ca.) next week to try a few out. All I see right now is $$$$$$$ signs staring at me! Going to be making a lot of jigs for that prop! Sure glad I got a heck of a deal on the boat & trailer $1500 because I've put in over $8,000 into it since! Elect., T.M., motor rebuild, trailer brakes, lights, wiring, receiver hitch, it seems to go on and on. Like my wife says, "it'll be better than a new one when your finished" Hope so! Thanks for the help. P.S. 4500 rpm's is not WOT, just as fast as I wanted to take it for now. When it's all said and done it should red line around 5700 to 5800. Thanks again
  22. Frist of all, Boat = 98' skeeter zx202dc Motor = 98' 200 h.p. Yamaha - fresh rebuild to around 215 h.p. or so, 20 hrs. running time at all tac. speeds = 5mph to 60mph so far with much more in it. 600 rpm to 4500 rpm. red line around 5750 to 6000? Prop = 26 - 3 blade Problem, Hole shot, always a slight to heavy stall to the point of stalling the motor out. Was told it might be that the prop has to much pitch or plugs need to be bigger? Please keep in mind, "I can build you the best mech. shop you could dream up, just don't ask me to work in it!" Any help?
  23. I'm looking at S. Ore. Grants Pass area. No sales tax, gas is 15 cents cheaper, Great people, vote no banners every where, Rouge river for small jaws, 5 lakes for large mouth, not to much snow, and lots of water. I've never heard of Oregon having a drought? The libs. out here are just a little to much!
  24. Being from California I should say here, but my option would be Texas. Reason is they don't have a bunch of democrats trying to get rid of bass, they encourage the sport!
  25. Like it was yesterday. A 2 man rubber raft- that leaked, piece of wood for a paddle, a 6' white knight spinning rod, Mitchell 300, org./blk. spinner in a cove off the San Jauquin river (Cal delta) and a lot of yelling! 3 1/2 lbs. Still fish that cove today. I'm sure everybody is tired of hearing the story! 1966, mid July. My birthday present of life.
