  1. He uses my jigs along with about 6 or more other sticks on Clear lake. Johnnies in Corning right now and had at least 4 trips booked. From what I've heard as of yesterday, no salmon yet (dinks don't count) but the line side action is on fire. Went down to Scotty's landing and landed 10 or 12 on a "tremor" (chatterbait type lure) 1 oz. white/shad colored with a big stainless blade. Not much in size - 1 keeper, but a lot of action. From what I saw on the news last night, the water levels on the river are high enough now for the run to come up. Called Haps in Rio Vista and same story down there. Big striper run - no salmon yet (shakers but no big hens) As far as John goes, I've got to get some of these baits to him to try out. I'd like to get his opion on them.
  2. Once it gets wet it's a bear to get out without a 4x4.
  3. California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Texas, New Mexico, Utah, and Montana,
  4. Real soon the only way your going to be able to fish Oroville is by bank. I understand Bidwell is closing around the 20th of this month. Then it's the dirt ramp and a 4x4 to get your boat out of the water. Afterbay hear we come!
  5. It rained, drizzled, sprinkled, & misted all day enough to make the ground wet and muddy in a few spots. I found one and almost went head over tail for about a foot and a half! Good slide, he he
  6. I'd save my dollars and buy a Powell or something simular. "Best bang for your buck" In my experance (some 45 yrs.+) I first reserch the rod on cabellas or Bass tackle depot - both on line (look at the reviews). Then just get the "feel" of the rod. If you already have the reel, take it with you to get the proper balance of the two together and unbalanced combo will wear you out quickly! Ulgy stick? Do you plan on setting on the bank drinking beer with your buddies? Save your money and get quality. As for senkos, a 2 or 3 power rod would be my choice (lite to med. lite) 6'8" to 7'
  7. Got up this morning(3:30 A.M. my normal time) to a strange noise, RAIN! Looks as if we're going to get a couple of inches? One can only hope! Lake oroville is down to one out of the 4 ramps and there's talk of it being closed in a couple of weeks! Salmon are'nt coming up river due to the lack of water coming out of the lakes (Oroville & Shasta), both lakes are down 100 ft. plus, Oroville almost 200 ft. The Sacramento river has algee growing in the creeks feeding it due to lack of in coming water and warm to almost hot water just setting in them. Normaly this time of yr. it's time to get out the "mini-skeeter" (a 14' alum. I built into a bass boat) and hit the small creeks and sloughs for smallies and northern strain LG. Not this yr.! COME-ON RAIN!!!!!
  8. I grew up on one of the tributaries of the Cal - delta and was told that this river can take you anywhere in the world. I sometimes forget that phrase with tournaments and the pursuit of bigger bass. Whisperer is right about the water. I too fish by myself alot. I get there when I want without waiting for someone to show, and leave when I want. Who wants to listen to my bit#$in' anyhow? Leave your troubles on the dock, we're going for a boat ride!
  9. Good ones, also try Bass tackle depot. Their sales are from 20% to 30%. You can but Luck craft cranks cheap.
  10. You should change your braid. Spider wire is a little stiff for my taste. Power pro makes a great braid and the super 8 slick works well for me. 30 lb. is the same pound test I use and have never had any problems so far.
  11. I'd do the measuring and pics. then send them off to get a repica made. Let them live another day.
  12. Either one of my jigs or a 6" hud. The baby bass are about that big right now.
  13. Be careful about how you go about it. I did the exact thing here in our town and we decided to make it bigger than the org. 10 anglers we started with. The big problem was (and still is) people. I ended up leaving because of the people that joined after the org. 10. In fact of the org. 10 not one is still part of it. I hope yours does better than the monster we built. Bar-b-q's and outings were not on our minds when we started it, but now? GOOD LUCK!
  14. I'd check about lake level and Algee bloom on Clear lake. Call one of the following shops; Clear lake bait & tackle, Limit-out tackle, or Clear lake outdoors. The last I heard was the south end had Algee getting bad and the north doing fine. This was last week. Mt. revs. are hurting for water. Folsom lake is out, Oroville is down to Bidwell marina, down 170+ ft., Shasta still has water, down around 100+ ft., Berryessa should still have water, but I'd check with Department of water resourses (DWR). There's also Sanoma lake? The delta will be your best bet. Salmon will be in full swing, line sides are always in there and the bass frog bite will be great along with the jig, punchin', spinnerbaits, and chatterbaits. Good luck, Matt will steer you straight.
  15. Matt, if your to busy, I was told Johnny Peral Has now gotten his guide lic. (John told me). I'm not sure if he's left for Cornning yet? He said he had a few trips on the Sac. for line sides & salmon. Ph.# 707-536-3984 Excellant Clear lake angler and also river guide.
  16. I believe the areas he's talking about are below Lake oroville and some small lakes/ ponds in the area. Could'nt have put it better on the punchin' idea, but another you might want to try is a pitch and twich method. Instead of using a 1 1/2 oz bullett weight, I use a 1/1/2 oz. jig or just the jig head with either a beever or rage tail. The pitch and twich method is nothing than pitching it into any thick matted grass and twiching your rod untill the jig goes thru. It works very well on the delta, Clear lake, and any waters that have the weed/ grass problem. Less cost, same action, did I mention COST LESS?
  17. It happens on Oroville every once in a while with jigs. You really can't see it, but all of a sudden your line begains to move after you've hung it on a rock.
  18. Your talking about the after-bay reeds. Best bet is to flip or pitch low to the water. Bust through them about 4" to 6" above the water. If you try to pitch over the top of them at this time of yr. they'll grab your line. I've been pitching into them 5 to 6 ft. with no problem. I plan on going out either Thrusday or Friday, so e-mail me or P.M. me. Bring gas $$$! What to bring; 1 broom stick with 30 lb. braid at least set up for flippin', 1 spinner bait rod, 1 senko rod, 1 swim bait rod, 1 frog rod. Also bring your own food & drink.
  19. I was kinda surprized it came out of New Melones. My guess would have been Bullards or Collins lakes. Nice spot thou. We've caught them to 9 lbs. on Bullards and the general store on Collins has 3 or 4 on the wall in the 9+ range. California is lousy with spots, they planted just about all the res. with them along with either cokes, rainbows, silvers, or kings in the 6" to 8" size range. Perfect food for big bass.
  20. 2001 chevy silverado, tow package and does well at the speed limit (55 mph). You don't like the speed I'm going, go around!
  21. had a talk with Shaw Grisby when the elites were out on the west coast a few yrs. ago, and he told me it takes up to a week to flim his show. You can figure a lot of editing goes into every short clip on you tube. More hrs. looking at flim than on the water. Not to many want to see cast after cast. Use the "no strike" casts for your learning process and the catches for everyone else. Good luck!
  22. Drag has nothing to do with it. A med. action rod and and either braid (my choice) or mono (for strech), and a very sharp hook. If you find they're short striking, add a trailer hook. As with crank or top water baits, the fish should hook themselves.
  23. Pro-cure & Smelly jelly. I like to stay on the west coast for scents, after all, I live and fish out here.
  24. In N.Cal (lake Oroville) it's the lake lice weekend. Wake boarders, tubers, skiers, jet skies, ect. As I said, LAKE LICE!
