  1. The tree we found by the weeds. Got a smallmouth there. I also found another tree twenty feet from that one. Saw those guys from southern new Hampshire. They were much more friendly after they recognized my boat. Talked with them for awhile. They even gave me a couple beers. They had caught 4 bass all day with three guys fishing from there boat.
  2. I went back there today. I surely didn't set the world on fire but landed 15 largemouth and 3 smallmouth. Biggest 5 were 2-13, 2-15, 3-3, 4-13, 5-10. Oh and Shane... Remember that magic bush ? Got the 4-13 and 5-10 there.
  3. Had a bit of a later start today. Got on the water at 9 am. The water temperature was already 63 degrees. It was calm an sunny. The fish seemed very active in the morning. I could see them shallow and they were all over whatever I threw. In the first hour and a half I had already caught 7 bass. Then it clouded up and the wind blew. The bite shut down. I got to my favorite off shore spots around 1130 when the water temperature was 68 degrees. The front came through about 1230. The wind picked up 5-10 out of the east. The fishing was slow but consistent. I had a 5 lb class spit my jig on a long cast and that was sad. The bite was slow mid day and the water temperature dropped quickly once the wind picked up and the front moved in. I landed 15 largemouth and 3 smallmouth for the day mostly on a jig with a rage craw trailer. Biggest 5 fish for the day were 2-13,2-15,3-3, 4-13, 5-10. The 5-10 was very skinny. 5-10
  4. Had a blast fishing with Shane J today. The conditions were tough, bluebird skies, light winds and very warm. We still got them though. Between the two of u we landed 20 bass. Our biggest were 4-12,4-10, 3-12, 3-8, 2-15. Hopefully the bite will be better tomorrow with the overcast conditions.
  5. Went fishing today with Shane. The surface temperature was 61 when we started and warmed up through out the day. There was no wind and not a cloud in the sky. The bite was pretty tough. You just had to grind out it. Today a jig with a rage craw produced most of the fish. We targeted isolated offshore structure most of the day. We did get a couple very shallow bites towards the end of the day. Today Shane and I caught a total of 20 bass. Our biggest 5 were 4-12, 4-10, 3-12,3-8, and a 2-15. It felt more like summer then fall today. Supposed to be overcast tomorrow, looking forward to that. Hopefully the bite will be better.
  6. Western Maine. Not to far from where we had some tourneys. Fishing today was tough. Not a cloud in the sky, calm, hot, wasn't very good condition for fishing. Shane and I caught about 12-15 bass at a lake I had been to twice previously. We caught two good ones. I put the pics up in the Maine Fall Bass Fishing thread. Heading out tomorrow to another lake.
  7. Today was day # 2 of the Maine bass fishing vacation. I met up with Shane J this morning. The plan was to fish a lake that is new to me. I had fished it twice before today. I decided to bring Shane there because I figured if the two of us couldn't get a good idea of what was happening then nobody could. The weather for the day was not ideal for bass fishing at all. It was very sunny with not a single cloud in the sky. There was no wind to speak of. Water temperature in the morning was 61 and warmed all the way up to 71. Todays daytime high was in the lower 80s which is crazy for the end of Sept. We got some good bites in the morning but after that it was an extremely tough day. When we went hours with out a bass in the boat. It was just an all around tough day. The good fish we caught was off of offshore structure. For the day between Shane and I we caught 12 -15 bass and a whole lot of pickerel. We did land some good fish. 4-14 on a jig with a rage craw 6-15 on a weightless worm
  8. Today was first day of vacation. I got into the lake at about 830 am. The water temperature was a chilly 59 degrees. The water is extremely low. Some of the lowest I have ever seen. The first bite of the day was a 4 lb 14 oz on a weightless worm. Then next 4 fish I caught were dinkers. Once I got out onto the Main lake it was already feeling pretty warm. The lake was very calm and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. I decided to locate some fish for when shame comes and fishes the next couple days. The first few spots I check were holding fish. At the first spot I checked a monster monster bass broke my line. That was very sad biggest fish I had on all day. After catching some fish I decided to try and find some brand new spots. It was such a beautiful and calm day. A perfect day for going around the lake. I found 3 brand new off shore spots. I caught fish off of all of them. One spot in particular I liked a lot, caught a 5-7,4-13, and a 3-4 off of it as well as a couple more smaller fish. The fishing for the day was ok. It was kind of a grind but the weather was amazing. I got a bit of a sunburn. Landed 15 largemouth for the day and 2 smallies. Of the 15 largemouth 7 of them were greater then 3 lbs weighing in at 5-7, 4-14, 4-13, 4-4, 3-4, 3-3, 3-2. Sadly I lost the biggest fish I hooked for the day. Hopefully Shane and I will have some luck the next couple days. A couple pics of the 5-7
  9. Got out fishing today. Was trying to locate some fish for when Shane comes to town the next two days. I found some nice fish and some NEW spots. The NEW spots were very very good and have been entered into my GPS. Lunker of the day was 5-7. Also caught 4-14, 4-13, 4-4, 3-4, 3-3, 3-2. 15 largemouth and 2 smallmouth for the day. Hopefully will be able to put shane on some fish the next 2 days.
  10. Moose Pond is more like a lake. Supposedly the state record wasn't even caught there. Robert Kamp caught it out of a small small pond near where I live. He didn't want it to the publicity. I live 5 mins from Moose Pond. That place gets a ton of pressure and tournaments. He didn't catch it from Moose Pond. He lived right down the road from me. He was quite the character.
  11. I absolutely hate it when someone sees a picture of an angler holding a big bass and assumes it was easily caught. Assumes there was no fishing pressure on the lake. I hate assumptions. Should never assume anything. "A bunch of big bass were caught out of that lake", there must be no fishing pressure there. "That guy catches a lot of 10 lb bass, he must fish where the fish have never seen a lure."
  12. I am heading out today for an 11 day vacation to Maine. I will be spending almost every single day bass fishing. Should be interesting to see how the bite changes over the course of 11 days. I hopefully will be able to get out fishing with as many friends and family as I can. As I am a goal oriented kind of fisherman I am going to set a few for myself. Put at least 3 different people on the biggest bass they have caught. Catch at least 10 bass over 5 lbs including the 50th over 5 for the year. Catch 250 bass in 11 days. Land at least 2 over 7 lbs. Catch a few lunkers on big swim baits. Find some new big fish spots. Catch a personal best. The forecast for the week looks very favorable. First day on the water will be tomorrow. Hopefully will locate some big fish for when Shane comes to town sat and sun. I do realize some of the goals are pretty lofty but you got to aim high. Go big or go home.
  13. Sweet fish Nev. You got a weight or length on her ? The good ole jitterbug produces well for ya
  14. Champlain has some amazing bass fishing.
  15. When I am fishing I rarely use a speed on my trolling motor above 1. Even when I am using 1 I don't have it on constantly. I will move up a foot. Cast. Repeat. If I am catching fish I wont move up. I will stay in that spot and keep casting until I believe all the fish have been caught from that spot. I have been with guys who will catch a couple fish in a 10 foot stretch of cover and just keep moving on. I have found that at times just staying at that spot you can catch several more fish. Another very interesting detail I have noticed. There are times when I pull up onto a spot and catch several 3-4 lbers in 20 minutes. Then the bite dies. I have found that when there is a concentration of bass like that there is usually a bigger fish around. After that bite dies I stick it out. I may go awhile with out a bite 20 minutes, 30 minutes or longer but more often then not the next bite I get is usually a bigger fish then what I had been catching. I heard somewhere that 80% of most lakes don't hold fish and that the other 20 % holds 80 % of the bass. In my opinion it is true.
  16. I have had very good luck with pad crushers. Big bass love them. They are a bit longer then most other hollow body frogs making them easier to walk.
  17. Do it ! I would love to see it. Hey I am free during the week all next week if you want to get out fishing where I know 10lbers swim.
  18. If it truly was caught in Mass then it was a freak of nature. Every other state record that breaks 15 lbs was caught below the Mason-Dixon line with one exception. Virginia.
  19. There was a lot of suspicion surrounding that fish. RUMOR was that it was caught in FL and brought back on ice. It is in the record book so that is what has to be beat in Mass. You got to go pretty far south before a 15 lb plus bass is a state record.
  20. I will take 10 casts in an area when everyone else will take 5. I will try every angle, speed, or good looking spot multiple times and often with multiple lures. I do most certainly pay attention to the smallest detail. That smallest detail at times is the difference between catching lunkers or catching nothing.
  21. I think that everyone fishes differently. I would say that after fishing with a lot of guys that I fish slower then every person I have ever fished with.
  22. Hopefully the fishing this fall will be as good as it was last year. I got my rain boots when I went to Alaska to work at a remote fish hatchery. The duct tape makes that one boot look pretty special but it doesn't leak and probably never will. The boots are Alaskan extra tuffs. Very good boots except that one I have on right foot needs a little duct tape. I plan to be on lunker this fall. Taking 22 days off between now and Nov. I am really trying my best to catch a double digit bass in Maine where the record is 11-10. I know some lakes that have the potential to beat the record and am going to fish them all a lot this fall.
  23. I would love to post a state record
  24. Fishing has been real good so far this Sept. Been posting in a bunch of places. I have been lucky enough to catch some real good fish this month including my biggest so far this year a 7-4. Got a two 6 lbers and four 5 lbers. I am not going to participate in the contest for now. I think its time to let some other guys get the spotlight. I think that I had participated in 9 months worth of competition and won 8 of them. Nashua Nev won it this past June. I wish you guys all the best of luck. I will surely be posting some big bass pics this fall. I will be on vacation for 22 days starting this Friday. Looking to catch some lunkers.
  25. I have the temps written down in my fishing log. I am at work right now and don't have the fishing log. As I recall the water temp was 48-50 degrees the end Oct. Nov 7th it was 44-46 degrees. Nov 17th the next time I was able to go back to that spot... Fish were still there. Got a 6-4, 5-12, 5-0 that day dodging icebergs. Had to break through 200 yards of ice.
