  4. What reel to do you pair this with?
  5. Crankbaits are awesome and you don't need electronics. I cast toward laydowns, rip rap, main channel points, secondary points, bridge pilings, and basically any structure that looks like it holds fish. I'd start with squarebill cranks shallow and then maybe some mid divers 7-10 ft. Erratic stop and start retrieves always seems to get more bites for me than just a strait slow wind. If you are not used to fishing a bait with treble hooks, you should read into why the rods are different and the hookset is different than soft plastic fishing. I won't be surprised if you hook a good fish and find yourself walking the aisles at the tackle shop and spending money on new crankbaits.
  6. This. Mepps/In-line spinners are the most effective and versatile lure ever made. Most of the responses are for bass fishing, but in-line spinners catch multiple species in every body of water on earth. They are they only lure I know that catch fish in a creek/stream, river, pond, lake, inlet, estuary and the d**n ocean. Not known for big fish, but something about this basic spinner somehow out produces everything else. If you are only talking bass fishing, then a T-Rig worm is my guess.
  7. I have had luck with jerkbaits and small sized swimbaits, 4in keitechs fished on main channel points. Shakeyhead and drop shot will get bit on riprap and docks. Topwater had not started yet last time I was there but should be soon. Fish have turned on the last two weeks so you are coming at a good time. The lake is full of hybrid stripers and I have caught 5-6 over 8lbs and they are lots of fun. Tournaments are being won in 20-25lbs range so plenty of good 4-5 lbs spots and largemouth to be had. Good Luck!
  8. Difference of opinions but I was hoping to do the above mentioned Lipless, shallow cranks, squarebills, shakeyhead, wacky, neko, swimbaits lures. Should I switch to the medium instead of medium heavy?
  9. seems like a pretty good all purpose rod for lighter weight presentations, which is what I was hoping for. Now to pick a reel, I was thinking about 2500 or 3000 Shimano or Daiwa.
  10. I am very excited to get ahold of my first St. Croix and wondering what lures and presentations would work best won the PS70MHF. Thanks
  11. I just picked up a few swimbaits from this company. I got the 8in Rising Son which is 3.5 ounces. Now I need a rod strong enough to throw it. My problem is I don't fish enough big swim baits that often and would like to find a setup that could handle this and possible other presentations and techniques.
  12. Same here
  13. Palomar is great, but my vision on the water with clear line can be tough and I've lost fish because I screwed up the knot because I didn't look close enough to the loop. I'm guessing I'm not the only one here who swears by the palomar but has lost a few due to operator error.
  14. Thanks for the suggestions and budget is $150-200 for a rod. Sounds like I need to go longer to 7 ft but not too many believers in a braid to leader setup. If that's the case then Mono or Floro for shad raps?
