  1. I'm not really the one to answer this but I played around and came up with a 20 turn Albright that seems to hold strong. This is 20lb Power Pro to 14lb Trilene XT. I'm sure there are better knots...but some of those seemed like a pain to tie.
  2. Interesting to see the wide range, from hours to weeks. I don't tournament fish but still don't want that awful gut wrenching feeling of the snap on a nice fish so I'll probably err on the side of caution if I continue down this road. Thanks for the responses.
  3. I don't mess with tubes and spray messes anymore. Fish Sticks, goes on like Chap Stick. I've seen the bite pick up after applying so I'm a believer. YMMV
  4. Yeah, I normally fall into that camp as well. On Tuesday, I fished a smaller lake that is very clear, much more than my normal lake so I thought I'd give it a try. I did do pretty good number wise, but in no way am I saying it was because of the leader.
  5. So, I mostly use straight braid or mono, but did fish about 5 hours on one yesterday (Albright knot). My question is how long will you keep a leader without retying? I probably retied the hook knot 5 times or so in that period. Caught a bunch of fish, but no size. At the end of the day, the leader knot still seems strong. Do you take it out multiple days or tie new each day?
  6. It's funny how we all have our preferences, the body of Power Pro is why I like it better than all other braids. I thought that was why I didn't have wind knots...lol Big Game is hard to beat for the money.
  7. I've only caught Largemouth in water less than 42 degs one or two times, so I'm with you there. Water was 60 here today and I couldn't find any good ones. T-Rigs and Jigs are my favorite to try in that scenario though..are you sure they are Bass? If they are stacked vertically, maybe Crappie or White Bass? Curious to see what others say.
  8. I have the book and have watched the videos..thought it was interesting too. I've never really tried it but I did see a Hackney video where he took his time on hooksets..reeling down and sweeping. Now I have on many occasions, let one swim out after the hookset and hung up in a tree. The moment I realize she ain't coming, I release all pressure and she'll swim out more times than not it seems.
  9. If I'm strictly doing a C-Rig, I usually use mojo style or egg weights.. But if I'm setting up one with a bobber stopper/carolina keeper for adjusting down to a Texas rig, like your original question, then I usually use 1/4 oz bullet weights.
  10. I do it some but I usually like the C-Rig to be a little heavier, but it works fine.
  11. One of the DSG's here completely removed the fishing department over a year ago. Since Academy moved in about 5 years ago, they have gotten most of my business except for a local place I try to visit as much as possible.
  12. Doesn't that remote hang up in cover?
  13. Nice video...but how does only spooling 60 yards of line save you money in the long run. Once you get low, let's say down to 30 yards for example, you swap out and waste that distance. If you fill it up at around 100 yards, you only waste that 30 for every 100 instead of every 60. Am I missing something?
  14. One day many years ago, me and a bud were fishing jig/craws. It seemed the bite was better after one of the claws got ripped off. So at some point we started tearing off one claw on each new one we put on. Seemed to work. I dont think I've done it since though.
  15. I've been using a double eugene bend on my light line rigs and I literally can't break the knot by hand (stronger than my Palomar) I'm not familiar with the SD jam or Tatsu, but I can't imagine that doubling it up would not make it stronger.

    Blue

There was a study done at a small lake that I read about several years back. I think in Illinois somewhere. I don't remember much of the details except blue jigs worked fast along the bottom was the #1 lure in the study.
  17. I'd throw it on the heaviest mono that you feel like throwing for lipless crankbaits.
  18. I have a buddy I fished with a few years back, he handed me one of his manuals and I showed him it was not a A/M. He had no idea, he thought it was. I've heard others get it confused too. Very dangerous IMO.
  19. Yeah, slowing down is usually what I do when the bite gets tough and often forget about speeding up. It seems counter intuitive but it works sometimes. Great video.
  20. I'm pretty much cranking out the slack with one and swinging with the other.
  21. Nothing spectacular here...but was picking out a backlash for a couple of mins and look what was attached...so that dead sticking is a thing.
  22. Has anybody seen much of difference between rattles vs the one knockers? Or silent for that matter. I mostly have the rattles (BB's) but did pick up a couple knockers. (Knock N Trap).
  23. I use 8 lb Trilene XT on my spinning gear when throwing 1/8 or lighter and really like it. XT runs a tad thick, so I would not go any higher.
  24. I try this and have some success but I get hung up a lot. Lipless baits in general seem to hang up quite a bit for me. Removing the back hook and keeping it moving seems to be my only way to stay snagfree. I did miss a good one today though so I'm second guessing the hook removal.
  25. I've never had a lot of luck casting to the spot. I've had some limited success casting past the spot and bringing it back through with different retrieves with a lipless. But...I rarely catch any good size Bass doing this.
