  1. I also own a Veritas (Although casting), I agree with what he says, still a good rod.
  2. Fenwick Elite Tech you can buy them online for 99.99. IMO the best rod and bang for your buck, it fishes like a 200 dollar rod. (I fish them side by side with my GLX and Cumaras)
  3. Happens to everyone. This year, I had just spooled my Curado50E with P-Line Floroclear ...after catching a 3lb bass I was so excited and gotten way to over confident in throwing into the wind..I really chucked it too hard and bam..big time birds nest. I didn't bring another rod with me because I had my kids with me, so I was out of commission. Couple of weeks ago, I was shore fishing with new invizx spooled and didn't pay attention when I was casting, I hit some weeds behind me...big time birds nest had to cut that line too! Darn weeds, always playing tricks on you.
  4. Pflueger Supreme MGX Spinning 4000, St.Croix Triumph, 6'6 M/F 20lb Power Pro - Drop Shot, Shakey Head, weightless plastics - Finesse Rig BPS PQ, Abu Garcie Vendetta 7'0 M/F 30lb Power Pro - Buzzbait, spinnerbaits, squarebills/shallow cranks Lew's Tourny, Abu Garcia Veritas 7'3 MH/F 40lb Suffix 832 - jigs and worms. Lew's Tourny, Dobyns 734c H/F 50lb Suffix 832 - Flip/pitching, frogging rod, heavy jigs
  5. I just checked with my 2nd choice tackle shop, they said next week. Their rep told them they have availability to ship and they ordered a couple weeks before iCast.
  6. Yeah, with 30 lb test I've actually pulled out 6 ft long tree branch that was submerged. Of course I didn't use my rod or reel to bring it up. (Wrapped the line around my arm to pull out the snag. )
  7. Sounds like a money grab too me! I don't even buy into the Super Slick, the ones I do have on reels came on the spool free when I purchased them. Personally don't see the advantage of some of these "bling" features.
  8. If they raised the price and added a better lifetime warranty I'll probably finally buy one. I like the peace of mind and good warranty.
  9. I don't have much experience with spincast rods other than buying one for my kids. I guess if you really don't care what happens to the rod, don't see the harm in trying it.
  10. Saw the Tatulas, I'm up in the air though on what I want to do. I want to replace my Quantum Energy and my BPS Extreme in my current line up. I was going to pull the trigger on a Chronarch E6 as it is on sale for 175 and then pay for a new Chronarch CI4+, but that Tatula Type R has snuck in and has thrown a wrench in my plans. d**n it!
  11. Oh and to add the Fenwick rods come with a Limited LIfetime Warranty...other than the Avid all the others you mentioned don't have that.
  12. I'd agree with the above statement. The exception on the casting is that I'd look to get a Chronarch - $199 (American Fishing Legacy -10 off coupon if you sign up to their news letter) and you can find a Fenwick Elite Tech for around 99.99 or lower easily online. This line of rods is light, sensitive and imo the best bang for your buck rod you can get. They also fish imo as much as 200 dollar rod (I own Cumaras and Loomis GLXs). However, I'd probably go M/F, to me this would be more of an all around rod. If you go spinning and can wait, the Stradic Ci4 will be on clearance.
  13. My local shop is saying they will have it first week of August, the good thing I'll be up north fishing and staying at the cottage for a week. Bad news, is that I'll have to wait to get see one.
  14. Problem is, I live in Canada and it would probably be not worth it shipping cost and duty. Do have a reputable guy near me, but I haven't taken the plunge. I don't think I will go that route this time around.
  15. I have more rods, but I didn't pour money into getting a dedicated spinnerbait rod since I had this guy. I will buy another one, but probably won't be an Avid. (I owned 2 MH/F and sold them, too stiff for my preference). Plus I don't see how a MH/F rod would help with sensitivity? I'm probably going to look for a Cumara reaction series rod or buy a Loomis CBR, depend on which I can get a good deal on. Thanks all for your inputs.
  16. For flipping I'd go with the 7'7" as the longer rod will help with flipping. Although all 3 probably can handle what you are looking for, so it's up to you if you want the longer rod (comfort and preference). I own the 7'2" MH/XF and like it for my purposes 2nd 1/2-5/8 oz jig and worm.
  17. Chronarch all the way - tried, true, proven platform/build. Smooth and sexy! Ok now that I sound like a fanboy, I'm not just prefer them over all the reels I've used. Love my Es and the two 50MGs.
  18. Yeah on the weekend I had Yo-Zuri 12lb on a Daiwa Lexa 100...to check if the sensitivity changed I used my other Daiwa Lexa 100 spooled with 30lb braid and had a floro leader last night. Still no increase in sensitivity and couldn't tell a difference.
  19. I still have the Avid, I just use it for topwater and jerkbaits (I love it for those applications). I have been holding off buying a dedicated spinnerbait rod to see if the BPS one would do the job...it looks like it will not. I just like my Avid 6'6" M/F where it is, as for the Compre it was too soft M/F to use as a spinnerbait rod. I'm probably just going to have to nip in the bud and get a dedicated more sensitive SB rod.
  20. Add to the longer rods also have better hook setting power when fishing jigs and worms in deeper water..15+
  21. What he said, if you are catching fish why change anything? If you feel you think you are missing out, try the standard tube head jig. But imo if it works, don't fix it! I use BPS brand tube jig heads. I've also put them on flipping jigs, caught a lot of large mouth bass on them.
  22. My favorite color wht and cht, cht and sk sexy shad color. Do not use trailers.
  23. So I've always thought that sensitivity while fishing reaction type lures (spinnerbaits, crankbaits, jerkbaits, swimming jigs..etc) didn't need a sensitive rod. I'm beginning to think this isn't true. For 2 months now, I've been fishing a spinnerbait on this cheapo BPS rod (BPS Pro Qualifier Tournament rod). It is a 7' M/F rod and I use it for shallow cranks and spinnerbaits. I bought this is as a "combo" deal when it was 79.99 (it had the BPS Pro Q Tournament Reel, similar to the PQ but with some cheaper parts). Thought it was an awesome deal and I liked the power and action of the rod for what I was using it for. Anyway, what I noticed is that I don't "feel" the bites at all on it. It is so dead in my hands that I can't feel the fish or any cover properly. For example last night I was fan casting in moderate submerged weed cover or weed lines and was a slow retrieve (spinnerbait) just over the weeds. Then it felt like what I thought was a dense patch of weeds and I just did a quick pull to get it out, until I realized it was fighting back. Of course I didn't get to set the hook properly and I basically lost the fish when it did a jump about 5 ft out (did try while I was pulling it in another quick jerk to set the hook). Good thing it wasn't a monster or I would've been peeved and probably broke the rod in half! Probably a 2-3 lber though. So I decided to tie on a crankbait just to see if I can feel the rhythmic vibration of a crankbait. Low and behold I couldn't feel it half the time, so when I didn't feel it I had a hard time figuring out if it was a fish or weed or something. Come to think of it now, I don't remember even feeling my spinnerbait vibrate, it was a double willow blade Terminator wht/cht 3/8 oz. I love spinnerbait and swim jigs..they are both of my favorite types of search baits, so it's not like I'm new to fishing spinnerbaits. My previous dedicated reaction rods were an Avid M/F and a 7'2" Compre M/F, both of those as far as I remember I didn't have a problem detecting a fish strike this badly. So now I'm changing my tune...I am now thinking what else am I "missing". Even with braid and floro leader I still wasn't detecting the bites that easily or discern whether it was weeds, stump, rocks..etc.. Even the fish that I lost on Saturday that was pulling my little boat around I didn't detect the bite, I was lucky I thought I hit weeds..I tried to rip it out of the weeds and probably set the hook on the fish. Or maybe now that I'm fishing with higher end rods (GLX, Cumaras) for the first time this year, my hands are now spoiled and are now conditioned for the heightened sensitivity? What do you guys all think? Or maybe it's just me and I plain suck! HA!
  24. Carbonlite combo all the way. Like all the others stated.
