  1. I'd go with a Cumara, but my favorite DS rod has been my Crucial 6'8" ML/XF. So I would gather a Cumara would be even more sensitive.
  2. Always wanted to try the Saugeen, looks like a great day! I haven't taken out my Kayak for 4 weeks, been nursing a hand soreness..but I don't think I can wait anymore. Thanks for the motivation!
  3. rockchalk - I did get to go out for about 30 minutes and tried out how the reel would handle a super fluke weightless. It wasn't very difficult, I was able to cast the fluke with no issues at all. So I'm sure it would be able to handle your pointer with no problem, like iabass stated. I was able to cast it about 5 yards further than my standard super fluke set up which is a spinning combo (Fenwick ET M/XF with a Symetre 2500 FL).
  4. Haven't been out for 3 weeks now, but I have a feeling we were/are going through the transition (Southern Ontario). Only reason I took some time off, my wrist and middle finger, ring finger and pinky has been sore. Still not fully healed, but I can't just let the season just roll by. My hand can rest after the season is up.
  5. Like any other technique, some days it's not what they want. I throw a spinnerbait a lot, number 1 search bait this season. Keep it up, I'm sure you will get it sooner or later. Also, I find keeping it simple is better to learn to use a spinnerbait. Just throw it out and do a continuous and steady retrieve, once your start getting confidence, then add the other things. You can over think/over work a lure imo.
  6. My reel is on a 4 powered GLX, so I haven't done anything very light. I did try throwing a 6" weightless worm on a 7'2 Cumulus during one trip, it was MH/XF - the rod just couldn't load it, but it didn't seem like it would be an issue with the reel. I maybe going out tomorrow, not sure...if I do I'll try it on my medium powered Fenwick ET rod and see if it has an issue throwing that light.
  7. I'd definitely believe what this man says. rockchalk - the CI4+ is easily as palmable as the 50 series reel, it feels similar I'd say so my Chronarch 50E/Curado 50E on the rods. I haven't experienced any flexing at all with the reel.
  8. That is interesting, first I heard that. Biggest fish I have caught on mine was a 2lber so far. So I'll have to see if that actually happens. I like it though, casts smoother than the Chronarch E and can get a bit more distance. Super smooth performer. If you think the E series was smooth in castability you're in for a treat, it's even smoother. No effort at all in the cast.
  9. Man this cracked me up. I swear you'd be a fun guy to fish with.
  10. I need to restock on jigs...hrmmmmmmm....great colors!
  11. I just did a quick google, someone said they caught catfish, walleye, bass and perch with them. The only problem is getting rid of the "slime".
  12. I never tried slugs and probably would be interesting how you're going to put it on a hook. I am sure you will get bites though, not sure the type of fish you want. I've used live grubs before (when removing weeds during the spring time, I detest these guys) and have had good luck catching bass and perch.
  13. It's quite annoying, I agree. If you tone down the size it would be better! On topic - I used high vis yellow Spider Thread braid on a clear lake. Here is my take. 1. I found I had less strikes on a spinnerbait with just tying it straight. As soon as I put a 10 lb floro leader on the braid my strikes went up dramatically. 2. On top water it really didn't matter, didn't notice a huge difference. 3. Texas rigged a senko straight to my high vis yellow braid, I didn't have much luck. As soon as I put again a floro leader, I started catching fish. I am not sure if this was all coincidence or just darned luck, I had two setups with the high vis yellow braid - 1 with straight braid and the other 10lb floro leader. I decided after getting skunked basically doing straight, I added a leader and my "catching" was better. In the beginning I was in the camp "It didn't matter", still am with stained/muddy, but I'm a believer now in clear water, you must use a leader. On my local lake which is stained, I used straight high vis and never had an issue.
  14. Man sorry to hear that, I guess it's time to get on the water and do some fishing.
  15. Always set my drag at a feel where I can just pull the line of the reel without a lot of effort and just enough for you to give a firm tug. That is how I set my drags by feel. I learned this from a local pro. I do however lockdown more than normal when I flip/pitch and my frogging setup..especially in heavy stuff.
  16. 10 lb braid with 4 or up to 8 lb floro or P Line Floroclear leader.
  17. My highest this season 14 and still my highest "number day", never reached 15...I'm sure it was dang fun!
  18. Welcome to the forums!
  19. Welcome to the site!
  20. Congrats on the PB man, felt good I'm sure!
  21. Congratulations, now it's time for the 5 figure mark.
  22. I use my 6'10" M/F Fenwick ET rod for squarebills up to 1.5.
  23. By the way awesome to hear they took care of you though!
  24. I bought 3 new GLXs this year. I've caught 4 fish on GLX 894C - 156.25 (with Chronarch E6) per fish, I've caught 1 fish on my GLX 853C (CH50E)- $610 for the 1 fish. ( I have caught 22 fish with my GLX 854C paired with my Shimano CI4+ - 30.90 per fish retail. All prices in retail, luckily I bought them all on some kind of sale.
  25. If you don't want to spend more than what others stated, I found the previous Generation Crucial at ML/XF to be the best drop shot rod I've used. (look for used) I definitely would second if you are going for a Cumara - get the previous generation. Or even luckier if you find a Cumulus, seriously regretting not picking up a Cumulus at 159 sale price (Picked up only a casting rod MH/XF), you might be able to find one of those if you looked hard. The Cumulus is a serious stick and find it fishes just as well as my GLX.
